Vervain collapsed on his side, wheezing pitifully as he rolled in the dust. His companion, Catnip, didn't notice he'd fallen back until a minute later. The tabby came bounding back in confusion.

"What are you doing Vervain?"
"What does it look like? Not walking."

Catnip titled his head to the side slightly and moved closer, sitting down across from him and shaking his head. "They'll be waiting for us in the hunting grounds-"

"No way I can go on in this heat." Vervain complained in reply, sitting up and, with his eyes closed, letting out another sigh. "... Catnip- all summer is good for is sitting in the shade. Doing nothing. That's what I'm going to do."

"But it's not shady here-"

"Fine! I'll keep walking with you- as soon as I see shade I'm sitting down."

With that the two walked on- Vervain looking forward to a good nap under some bushes away from the sun.

xxxx"Where are we going," OwlHeart droned.
Her voice coming out desperate after the fifteenth time she had pleaded with her mother for an answer. SageDapple simple looked over her shoulder, smiling with fondness at her daughter.
xxxx"I have work to do," OwlHeart pleaded.
She wasn't lying either, there had been talk about a new festival, a festival of the dead that OwlHeart alone was planning, with some help from MantaPaw and opinions from FlowerPond. She had work to do and yet here she was being pulled across the territory by her mother, beyond the border and further away. Just as her hoped started to fade that she would get answers her mother spoke up.

xxxx"We are going some place special that I want to take you come summer."

OwlHeart looked away and scoffed, great it was some spiritual nonsense. Her mother paused in a clearing.

xxxx"This is where I meet your father, every summer." SageDapple looked around the clearing, it was autumn currently and the scent of that stray tom was a ghost in this clearing, so faint only Sage would be able to find. OwlHeart had finally been silenced giving SageDapple room to speak.

xxxx"We meet as often as we can during the summer months, we go for long walks along the beach, share prey, talk about life and what we've been doing for the past year. We don't have anything to do with each other the rest of the year but during the summer, he is mine and I am his."
SageDapple pauses, to gauge her daughters mixed facial expression.
xxxx"You know you are a lot like your father," SageDapple muses, "the two of you will definitely get along." [281/300]

"Summer? Bah! Hedgehogs! I hate summer!" Beesting grumbled. "Too many fleas, and ticks, and annoying buzzing flying buggers!"

Beesting is a grumpy cat who really hates the heat of summer because of her long coat. She spends most of her days during summer by the river, letting her fur cool in the shallows. Alone.

At night is when Beesting becomes more active when it is cooler, often exercising herself by catching fireflies and mosquitoes and sometimes the occasional prey or two.

Every summer Spruceshine takes on a very important and exciting task. In Brightclan, it's important for as many cats as possible to know how to swim, as half the clan's prey lives in the lake. So during the summer every year, Spruceshine takes the clan kits to the shallow spring on Brightclan territory and teaches them how to swim. Spruceshine enjoys nothing more than spending time with the clan kits, so she's quick to spend that extra time with them. In addition, she finds creative and fun ways to teach the kits to enjoy splashing around in the water and learning to swim. The have swim races, play chase the leaf in the water, and try to catch minnows. It makes Spruceshine feel that she still has an important purpose within the clan, teaching these kits, and it keeps her active every year as well.

"Come on Barleyleaf, enough flowers! The sun's going down and I promised Sorrelflower I'd be back with something to eat for us and I don't have anything." Stormwhisker grumbled as he escorted the wandering medicine cat.

Mumbling to himself through the bundle in his mouth, Barleyleaf looked up and scowled at the warrior. Setting the flowers down, Barleyleaf shot back, "I'm not keeping you here, go and do what you want. I don't need a sitter, I'm not a kit." Picking up the flowers again, he grumbled, "And just so you know, these flowers heal and save lives. They're not just for decoration and to look pretty."

Stormwhisker snorted, "Then why do these 'healing' flowers end up woven in your fur and placed around your den every leafgreen? Do they just weave themselves into your fur? I don't think so. You know what I think? I think you just say you need to gather healing herbs to pick your own pretty flowers."

Glaring at the amused warrior, Barleyleaf muttered, feeling embarrassed at being caught, "I-I don't know what you're talking about, Stormwhisker. These are healing herbs and flowers. And just because they just happen to appear in my fur and den, doesn't mean a thing, I'm a medicine cat, leaves and flowers get stuck in my fur all the time, it's not a big deal."

Snorting, Stormwhisker nodded, "Alright,alright, keep your pelt on. Keep your secrets. Just hurry up with your flowers." He paused to watch Barleyleaf resume his search before smirking, "And just so you know, I think those little white flowers would look lovely in your fur." He didn't even duck when he was hit with a clump of white flowers, only laughed.
