Why is there a smile on their bowl?

Light uses the smile on his bowl to lighten up the always present tense mood in the colony. The colony is always tense, always ready for an attack or kidnapping from their dangerous surrounding mammals. He uses his happy mask to keep his fellow colony members from breaking under the pressure.

Why is there a smile on their bowl? Fione was born to a different clan, and when the Forbidden colony had set out on their monthly cat hunt, they found him. He was always upset that his previous clan had thrown him out as a kit. Never happy, and always sullen, he had taken to colony life well despite his attitude. The current leader at the time had decided enough was enough, and had chosen to paint a smile on Fione's bowl. Fione thought of it as a joke, and whenever he looks at his bowl, he does get a little smile on his face. Though according to others of his colony, he is as stoic as ever.
