Name: Dovekit (Dovesong)
Gender: female
Clan: Glacial Blizzard Clan
Age: 5 moons
Rank: kit

Prompt:
"One day in the future, when I'm all grown up I will find true peace in the land in which we live," Dovekit told the elder whom she was visiting. "I dream of all the cats in the two clans sitting down together and teaming up instead of fighting with one another. It's a lovely dream, Stormclaw."

The black tom cat blinked as the kit pawed through his thick fur idly, trying to picture what this dream would be realistically. Sure, he could crush the hopes and dreams of the future of the clan, or he could encourage it and feed the future of the clan false hope. Letting out a sigh, the elder had made his decision.

"Dovekit," he said as gently as he could, not wanting to hurt her although he knew any way he said what he was about to would end up hurting her immensely. "Look. There isn't any way for me to put this nicely, but that dream of yours will never come true. It just isn't possible for the two of our clans to get along and pretend nothing happened between us. That day will never come; our clans are just too different."

The young kit pulled away from the elder, hot tears of frustration and anger burning in her eyes. She blinked them back, refusing to acknowledge them. "How can you say that?? Of course it could happen! You and mother and everyone tells me that anything is possible. Why can't this be possible too???"

Before the tom could answer her, the 5 moon old kit turned and stalked away, feeling the anger begin to fill her tiny self. She wouldn't let the harsh words of some old fart get to her, no way. Dovekit could see to it that her dream could happen; if not in her lifetime maybe in the lifetime of her kits or the kits of her kits. She made a vow to herself she would simply not let this dream of hers be crushed. The words of the elder did not discourage her; they made her more determined to see her dream through to succeeding.

Name: Twigkit (Twigpaw, Twigfall)
Gender: Female
Clan: CreekClan, link in sig
Age: 5 Moons
Rank: Kit

Prompt:
A white and blue body was sitting beside a larger brown shape, both looking solemn and sad, staring silently on into the dark forest. One was an orphan, found and raised by CreekClan a moon or so ago, but she still didn't feel at home. Cats talked about her behind her back, called her names and made stories up about her. They didn't know anything about her.

The other was a heartbroken soul, he had gone through similar things and more. Tallbear had been left by his father after his mother had died and found by Creekclan, being instantly put into training. He had a harsh mentor who constantly pushed him too far, voicing it was for Tallpaw's own good. After the tom was lost in battle Tallpaw was given to a second mentor who was much better, but that's only part of his story.

Twigkit let out a sigh before whispering, "I want to see my mother again. I want to know where I belong and why she left me. I want to know what was wrong with me so I can figure out how to fix myself for my clanmates."

Tallbear shook his head, fixing the small cat with an intense stare. "There is nothing wrong with you Twigkit. She left you because she is stupid and blind, not seeing the potential you have. You're going to become a good warrior of CreekClan that will blow the minds of all the mousebrains here. Just you wait."

Twigkit smiled, warmth filling her body. Tallbear was the father she didn't have permission to get, but she was so lucky she had him. With a purr, she nuzzled against his leg, whispering a soft and barely audible, "Thank you." While she still dreams of seeing her actual parents one day, she realizes that she has a father in CreekClan. One she can always talk to and trust. He will never leave her.

Gender: Male
Clan: PetalClan
Age: 3 Moons

Prompt: [347/500]
Littlekit grinned and looked up at the great blue sky. Recently, he had discovered his true destiny. Flight. There was not a doubt in Littlekit's young mind that he would one day be capable of flying through the sky he admired so much. A dream had told him so, and dreams never lied.

Littlekit was tilted his head back towards the ground when he heard the approaching paw steps of the hunting patrol. Once the prey had been deposited on the fresh-kill pile, Littlekit trotted over to Sorrelstar to share the great news.

"Sorrelstar?" he asked.

Sorrelstar smiled. "What is it this time, Littlekit? Did you find another frog?"

"No," Littlekit replied. "I've discovered my destiny!"

"Oh!" Sorrelstar meowed. "And what might your destiny be?"

"I'm going to fly!" Littlekit exclaimed. The kitten bounced up and down in excitement. "I can't wait!"

Sorrelstar's smile seemed to falter for a moment, which put a stop to Littlekit's bouncing. What was wrong? Surely this was great news! Shouldn't his foster mother be proud of him for discovering his purpose in life?

"Littlekit..," Sorrelstar began, trailing off as if not sure where to begin. "Littlekit, cats don't fly."

"Well of course ordinary cats don't! But I'm a special cat, and I'm going to fly. My dream told me so."

Sorrelstar shook her head. "I'm sorry, Littlekit, but it's just not going to happen. Try not to get your hopes up." The she-cat licked the top of Littlekit's forehead, then padded away to settle another argument between Doveflame and Amberstrike.

Littlekit sat down, staring blankly at the wall. Sorrelstar had always been completely honest with everyone, and Littlekit was no exception. She truly believed that there was no chance his dream of flight would ever come true.

But that doesn't matter, Littlekit thought. She doesn't understand. My dream was real, and it said I was going to fly. The kitten tilted his head up to the sky, stomping down the blossoming sense of defeat Sorrelstar's words had instilled in him. Some day, some how, his dream was going to come true.

Quietpaw felt her whole world shatter as she stared at Shadowstep, 'Forget that dream, it will never come true, start looking at reality and face the fact that a warrior doesn't sing, especially one that can't even mutter a response properly without stammering.' she snapped before storming into the forest. Quietpaw sat down slowly looking at the ground curling her tail, she was named Quietpaw for her shy nature and her lack of desire to talk... she wanted to sing because Wolfkit said she had a lovely voice, she loved the idea, it was something she thought she would be able to do right... but now she wasn't sure anymore.

Shadowstep was a rough mentor, she was hard on Quietpaw and she never felt like she was doing right, she cried softly and headed off swiftly to the river, she wasn't supposed to leave camp alone but her heart was broken, Shadowstep hurt her badly this time. She laid by the river and shook her head, she hated it but her mentor was right. She wasn't the bravest cat, she was a failure as an apprentice and would make a truly awful warrior. She couldn't even talk without stammering never mind being able to sing a song for the clan and Starclan. It was her dream to be able to though she wasn't sure why she even wanted to. She knew she didn't want to be a warrior, maybe a queen one day but even then... Queen's don't sing either. No one in the clan sings, it was something only she knew how to do really, Softfeather seemed to like it and Wolfkit did too... but she was to shy to do it for anyone else and Shadowstep was right about it.

She looked down staring at herself in the river as the words rang in her mind, she vowed from that day on she would never speak to Shadowstep again... she wouldn't until she worked up the courage to tell her that she could do it without stammering... but it would take a long time... and she wasn't sure if she could do it on her own. Though she knew she would at least try and prove Shadowstep wrong one day... maybe not today, but maybe one day.

Plumkit spoke crisply and calmly, a note of scorn in their voice. "Of course that dream could never come true," they said, curling their lip in disgust. "Mossball. Mossball." They sent a glare towards the small, tightly packed clump of moss that Palekit had spent all morning preparing. "Me? Play mossball with you?" Exhaling heavily, the black, nonbinary kit surveyed her with a look of absolute contempt. "Seriously," they continued. "Why would I lower myself to play such a dirty, scrabbling, messy, unattractive game with a peasant like you?" Their nostrils flaring with a sneer, Palekit's denmate turned away and returned to organizing the small tower of rocks they'd begun forming earlier that day.

Palekit closed her eyes for a moment, opened her maw as though she would say something to Plumkit. She snapped it shut without a word, and blinked at the discarded mossball. A pang of sadness welled up in her chest- she'd tried so hard to make friends with the older kit, but still, they were simply cold, organized, and demanding. And rude. So rude. The smaller kit racked her brains for something to say in return, an evil insult she could throw back in their face.

Nothing came to mind until later that evening. So Palekit threw back her head and howled, a cry of despairing anger. She'd never be accepted by her clanmates, never. In an uncharismatic burst of energy, Palekit charged at Plumkit, bowling the older kit over. The two of them rolled over and collided with the rock-pile. As Plumkit's carefully gathered pebbles scattered across the clearing, Palekit scrambled backwards and Plumkit began to screech for Embercloud.

Palekit simply wanted to be friends with Plumkit. But the she-kit's enthusiasm and sensitivity were never going to be a good match for Plumkit's precise and neat demeanour. He was always cold to Palekit, and all she wanted was a good game of mossball with her denmate. The dream of making a friend in her new clan: crushed and broken by the one cat she truly thought might fulfil that dream.

Prompt:
Thrushpaw hadn’t even got around to telling Emberheart her dream of becoming his apprentice and the next star reader when that dream was crushed by the tom overhearing her say something to Adderpaw about it when the two were just days away from becoming apprentices.

β€œWhy do you want to be the next star reader, it seems like such a boring job to do?” Adderpaw had asked her.

β€œBecause don’t you think it’d be cool to have the ancestors talk to you all the time or for the gods to be able to tell you things? You could stop all the bad things from happening before they even happened!” Thrustpaw told him excitedly, her voice just loud enough for the warrior to over hear them.

β€œWhat are you two going on about?” Emberheart asked the two kits as he moved closer to them, although he’d overheard enough about the conversation to understand he wanted to see if the kits would tell him anyway.

β€œNothing!” Thrushpaw replied quickly.

β€œHow Thrushkit wants to be your apprentice!” Adderpaw got out at the same time, looking to the molly right after who glared at him in turn.

While the warrior already had some idea of the conversation his eyes still turned sad as he looked down at the two kits before him. β€œThrushkit you know that’s not possible right? While I would love to have you as my apprentice that’s not how it works.”

β€œBut why not?” Thrushpaw started not understanding why that couldn’t just be how it worked. β€œIt’s my dream to be the next star reader and momma said as long as you believe in your dream it can come true.”

β€œFor most things yes that’s true, follow your heart and you can make your dream come true. But sadly if your dream is to become a star reader it doesn’t work like that.” Emberheart told the pair as he laid down, leveling with the kits. β€œStar reader isn’t something anyone gets to pick, in fact I never wanted this job. But it’s out of my hands, even Kestrelstar can’t say who gets to be the next star reader.”

β€œWhat do you mean you didn’t want to be the star ready? Who decides who gets to be them then?” Adderpaw asked this time.

β€œThe gods decide all of these things. They decide who can talk to the ancestors, even they don’t get a say in who they can talk too.”

β€œSo I just have to prove to the gods I’m right for the job then right?” Thrushpaw countered back, determined to not give up on her dream just yet.

β€œI’m not sure Thrushkit.” Emberheart answered honestly.

But Thrushpaw had already made up her mind, it didn't matter that Emberheart said she couldn’t be the next star reader. She’d prove to the gods that she was the perfect cat for the job, she wasn’t giving up on her dream just because someone told her too.

    Clan: BeachClan
    Age: 12 moons
    Rank: trainee

    Prompt:
Each breath he took was shaky and uneven, little bubbles of snot occasionally forming as he exhaled. He was six moons old finally able to become an apprentice and serve his clan. It had been all he had wanted since he was a child, to serve his clan.

It was the purpose of every cat to have that honour of fighting and maybe one day dying to protect those they loved and CinderKit did love. He loved so much and so far that you would think he'd be worn thin, yet with each new face he only became stronger in his kindness and compassion.

Yet despite his bodies aches and pains he stepped forward on the day of his sixth moon in front of his clan ready and waiting as the leader called for a camp meeting. He begun with the simple things, how prey was running in the clan, the border skirmishes and then, right where his apprentice ceremony should have been the SparrowStar began closing the meeting.

    "What about me?"

The question was purely knee jerk, desperate, hopeful. SparrowStar looked down at him, this burning hatred in his gaze that spoke to the fact CinderKit hadn't stepped out of line but leapt. The seconds ticked by, one by one until they had found themselves accumulated as a minute and SparrowStar finally spoke.

"You will never be a warrior CinderKit."

    He said, simple and stern.

    "You'll never be anything."

CinderKit felt like his heart had been crushed in his chest, backing up slightly as warriors and queens around him tutted and shushed, not one of the people he had let into his heart standing up for him.

"You're sickly and ill, better off in the elder's den than in the forest. If we depended on your for food and protection we'd be thrown to the rogues and starving."

What was left of his heart in his chest was ground to nothing and CinderKit found himself doing the only thing he could do in such a situation. He sobbed, hiccups almost immediately beginning to break through the long streaks of tears and loud wailing. The longer he cried the more an itch in his chest rose with it and he found himself hacking and coughing through his tears until he was to hysterical and light headed to do anything more than curl up and pass out.

He really was too sickly and weak to be a warrior.

He spent the moons that should of been his apprenticeship in quiet solitude, watching the 'paws live the life he couldn't, always hoping his condition would change for the better. It wasn't until a stray she-cat called ApplePaw stayed with his clan for a few days.

She looked at him and for the first time someone believed in him. She started teaching him things, the more he learnt the more his health began to improve. Getting out, getting sunshine, exercise- He began to believe again. [492/500]
