Prompt:
Why couldn't starclan have picked him as leader? Sure he was young, but he was sure he could do a better job than what they had now. How could she continue to let strangers into their clan? Like that pompous clan cat wannabe Reedstrike, who she was even taking advice from sometimes. He was watching another of those shady cats she'd let into their clan. This one was an admitted rogue, now ex rouge supposedly, who he hadn't bothered to learn the name of, because why bother? The miscreant would probably try to take over, so why give him respect? The ex-rogue caught Rainsteps stares ad growled.
"Do we have a problem here kid"
"Don't call me kid" Rainstep growled back, pinning his ears to his head.
"I have a feeling," the older lion started, pacing toward Rainstep, "You don't give this much disrespect to anyone else in this clan"
"I refuse to respect scum like you!" The ex-rogue shook his head, waving his tail in dismissal of the younger cat. This only peaked the annoyance, so he decided to lunge out the older cat. The ex-rogue turned to face the claws coming toward him and slashed back in defense. However, Rainstep wasn't stopped by the claws that raked across his face, the two tussled for a while, Rainstep attacking and the male dodging, before Reedstrike was able to pin the other male down.
The ex-rogue laughed, causing Reedstrike to growl. "You've got spunk kid" he mused as Reedstrike glared down at him, "But that's not going to get you far." The ex-rogue kicked Reedstrike'c back leg, claws raking into him. As the rogue got up, Rainstep was ready to attack back but was interrupted by another voice.
"That's enough from both of you" mewed Fawnstar sternly, " I expected better than infighting from my clan, especially for those clan born." She shot a glance at Rainstep. The ex-rogue only nodded his head with a mild "of course" before slipping off without Fawnstar getting another word in.
"Are you crazy, he doesn't respect you!" Rainstep hisses.
"Neither do you, not with that display," Fawnstar sighed, and softly added, "Why do we get you to the medicine cat." Rainstep followed her but said nothing. He couldn't believe she would give any defense to the ex-rogue, but to imply that he too lacked respected, that was insane. She must have sensed the tension for she turned to him and said. "Leave the leading to me, I can handle him, or anyone else. What I need is support to bring us back to the thriving clan we once were."
He didn't want to agree, and he couldn't, but he could never let his leader fell like he didn't have her back, and he intended to prove it.
