Oh purlease. Honey, that was no dream. No dream could be as vivid as that. That was a vision.
'But I'm no prophetic cat!' He'd cry, waking up in the night. Every hair on his pelt was prickling with terror. And yet. His entire body swarmed with longing for what had been foretold. He felt surges of hope - and then fear.
It couldn't happen. But the dream kept on coming. He'd never had repeated dreams before- never. And this one was exactly like the others.
It was set in the water. Red water. And he was drowning. He'd flail, trying to claw his way to the surface. His nostrils flipped shut and mouth tightly closed, but he couldn't breath. If he was completely honest, he was surprised it wasn't different- his asthmatic tendencies usually would worsen a drowning experience.
Either way, he accepted he would die. That was a customary part of the dream. Although he knew he wouldn't survive, he still tried to escape. To see his brother one more time. And as his lungs choked for air that would never come, he'd open his mouth to cry out for help.
But the voice that echoed in his head wasn't his own. As he'd look at his paws he'd panic, seeing ginger fur rather than grey. And as he howled silently, water would surge into his mouth and only then did he realize it was blood. His blood. But not his blood - because he wasn't himself. And he'd float upwards, leaving the blood-water behind, to look down upon a weeping form. His true self.
The dream always ended like that. Looking down at a broken form of himself from his brother's spirit.
But when Rain awoke he'd always see the fluffy ginger form next to him safe and sound. He wasn't alone. His heart wasn't broken. And Sun hadn't drowned. Deep inside Rain worried it was a vision, a prophecy. He didn't let Sun out of his sight after the second time he dreamt it. And he'd do anything to prevent the lake of blood.
Anything.
Little did he know that his resolution to prevent it would instead create it.
