They're like stars. Distant, bright, dots of hope that signify food and life in the cold darkness of this vast ocean.
Lanternfish, bristlemouth, catsharks, squid, jellyfish.
They spend time floating endlessly and waiting for the night that'll bring the light to guide them to their next meal. They find it, they catch it, they eat and then they sit and wait for another star on the horizon. The process is long, tedious, means it's less of a 'navigation' and more of a waiting game.
The lights are what they use to travel. A game of dot-to-dot, a breadcrumb trail, leading them from cold to colder and back to cold and all they can do is follow. It's silent down here, deafening. Too dark to see. Nothing to feel, the smell of salt filling their nose until there's nothing else to smell either. All they can do is wait, wait, and then reach for the little bit of warmth when they can, plunging themself back into darkness once more. Then they wait again.

“Scary…” They whimpered as they gently brushed their hand against the wall as they walked. The taunts repeated over and over in their head as they tried to navigate in complete silence and darkness. Why did their flashlight have to go out in the worst possible moment? They came to a slow stop and looked around, despite the fact that they couldn't see a thing. “Hhhh…” They gulped and was only able to take one step before tripping over something. “Nyeeh?!” They yelped in surprise, voice echoing. “Ouch…” Now they couldn't even see the damage, but they could tell it wasn't good when they began to feel the blood slide down their leg. “How long is this tunnel?” They asked themselves as they slowly got up to their feet, this time beginning to walk much more carefully then before. They jumped a little bit when they felt their hand touch something damp. How long have they been in this tunnel with no flashlight? Their eyes had barely adjusted to the darkness and it didn't help that their eyesight was already poor to begin with. They had to stop again, standing in the darkness. They couldn't give up now, they would just have to keep going. They let out a little sigh as they placed their hand against the wall again and moved forward.

What an interesting question. I honestly don’t know how to answer that- mostly because I don’t “find my way through the darkness.”

If you’re talking about a metaphorical darkness, like “I feel as though I am alone in the dark” blah blah blah, then I can assure you I am quite happy. Very happy. Extremely and incredibly happy here by myself.

If you’re talking about a real darkness, which I hope you are as the other stuff is just- ugh. As I was saying, if you’re talking about a real darkness, I don’t find my way out; I’m happy in the darkness.

The darkness is- well. Ever heard that old song, “Hello, darkness my old friend. I’ve come to talk with you again”? That’s me, that’s how I feel about it. It’s comforting, not scary. And if worst comes to worst and it does become frightening, I can see well enough in it to find my way out. Not that it would ever. The darkness is my friend.... Sometimes my only friend...

prompt answer; takoti is blind. it’s never really bothered them. why? because they rely on the one critter they’ve gotten to know! takoti’s best friend is a frilled shark. no one has really bothered them due to the weird and eerie look the frilled shark sports, they are always too scared to go up to them; that’s usually for the best. takoti’s best friend; moose, has been their “vision” since what seems like forever! moose will stick to their side forever, they rely on eachother! moose is their guide, and takoti has the special ability to detect any possible dangers in a 20m radius. no one really knows how, but they just think it’s how they feel when they believe someone might be watching them.

Crystahl is a very kind, welcoming pop who dwells deep
within the dark waters of the ocean, caring for the sea
creatures that live there as well.

Despite having many sea creature friends, Crystahl is a
very lonely pop, as she doesn't usually get to interact
with the members of her community. This saddens her
often, but she takes solace in the fact that she has her
fishy friends to keep her company, even if it is quiet.

Even though she knows it is practically impossible,
Crystahl dreams of one day having a life among the pops
that live on land, of finding love, and making a life for
herself within their community.

These dreams are fueled especially by the few like her
that she sees, who can live on both land and in the sea.

One particular individual has caught her attention, but
her lack of experience with others and a general shyness
have kept them apart thus far.

Carmen is an overall quiet pop. She doesn't speak often, though she thoroughly enjoys singing. She cannot see very well and uses her singing to make her way through the darkness of the ocean, as mentioned before. She often bumps into things and keeps her eyes shut underwater. She can open her eyes, though everything is severely blurred. Objects often melt together and warp into strange figures when her eyes are open, so she prefers to keep them shut. Many friends ask her to open her eyes more, as others believe her eyes are quite beautiful. Though she refuses to do so, mainly because of her blurred vision, but also because she's quite embarrassed about her eyes.

Carmen also hates the dark. Fears it. Despises it. She's aware that things can hide in the dark, and she much prefers the light. Even with her eyes squeezed shut, she can tell whether she's in the light or surrounded by pitch black. She often panics in the dark, and this is why she often turns to singing to calm her nerves. She also prefers to be around others, especially in the dark. Though a lot of her friends cannot breathe underwater, so she is often left alone. She does see herself as more introverted, though she really misses the people she loves and spends most of her time around. Admittedly, she'd love to join others on the surface. To be able to breathe the fresh air and feel the wind through her hair... But she is trapped, beneath the ocean... Forever.
