Why is he so sweet and docile?: Joah seems sweet a docile simply because he isn't overly interested in interacting with other Destrals. While of course, the idea of mares appeals to him, the idea of being around others and having to interact does not. Of course, this comes with him being docile as he doesn't want to deal with other stallions, meaning if he can keep from it he'd rather not fight. Don't talk to anyone, barely even observe them, and kaboom youve got a stallion who never learned the 'right' way to behave by his parents. Alexander usually hides and is pretty meek if you actually confront him....but if you do somehow manage to keep his company, he's the nicest friend you could have.

Why is he so sweet and docile?:
Qamar is so sweet and docile because of his experiences as he's grown up. The herd he was born to was generally peaceful, but not necessarily sweet. He was originally raised to be very wary of humans and most other animals, and he lived a lot of his foalhood that way. It wasn't until he was victim to an unsettling event that he realized being sweet was necessary to feeling like he was whole. He had fallen under a thick ice sheet in a deep dark, and freezing lake. The night that the event happened there was a full moon, and as he put together his values together with the event, he came to realize that the moon was his guardian, or at least he felt that way. The moon was the reason he was able to orient himself after the shock and find the surface and a way to push upwards. Immediately following the event, he found that he was alone and had no one to comfort him or help stabilize him, so he decided that he would be there for people no matter how devastating or tragic an event may be in their life. In a way, he's compensating for the lack of comfort he got after falling into the lake. As long as the rest of his life is full of care and kindness, he will feel whole.
