SCS Adopts #732-734: Ghosts of Christmas

Postby ~HєуRєι~ » Sun Dec 23, 2018 3:20 pm

Second Chance Shelter wrote:Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
The Basset Bleu de Gascogne came to the shelter first, with the other two dogs arriving late in a snowstorm from another shelter. None have anything in common but due to the lack of space, we set them temporarily in the same kennel. They seem to be getting along fine, though a few staff members were stuck overnight due to the storm.
PROMPT: Which one of the three ghost of Christmas (Past, Present, or Future) do they resonate with the most, and why? You may only go for 1 of the 3 but you may partner up if you wish! Just make sure to state who you are partnering with! [Word Count Min 100- Max 700] My Extra Policy

Prompt: The ghost of Christmas Future is as vague as one can see, a bit frightening to think about when one's future is so uncertain. The future is a tricky thing. No one's guarunteed to have one. Even newborn pups aren't always gifted a tomorrow.
And for a therapy dog like Yvette she knows this as a truth. Once a puppy in a litter of 5, now the sole survivor, she stands at a
whopping 13 inches and maybe 30 pounds. It's been a long time since she's ever bothered with the numbers. After all being the runt is no easy task and for the first few weeks of your life, numbers are all you have. But after living a good 7 years, Yvette can say she can't truly complain.

She's a quiet dog, surprisingly for a hound breed. The only sound she'll make is a baying howl and that is just when she gets excited.
    Image
Otherwise, she's quieter than a mouse. Her eyes are always watchful and curious and while she is trained well, there are times where she won't listen and lead instead. It's on these times that the staff noticed she often waits for them to catch up.

It's almost chilling how she looks back, with the shadows flickering around her so hauntingly. Sometimes the staff members will pick her up to comfort themselves or tell themselves they're comforting her, and Yvette is kind enough to bestow them with comforting doggy kisses and just like that, the spell is broken and the lights stay warmly lit.

As a puppy, Yvette lived a quiet life the pet to a young and eccentric girl who was easily excitable and loved to have fun. But when she had a major car accident that nearly cost her life and her legs, Yvette was there to help her put the pieces back together. She's not certain what happened but when her owner started struggling to live her own life properly, well Yvette went from a simple pup to a trusted companion. She grew to sense the changes that were happening to her owner and did what she could to help her adjust. She followed her owner loyally and lived a good 7 years in her care. It was with a breaking heart that her owner found she could no longer keep her, however. But to Yvette it probably was for the best. She couldn't keep up with her that much anymore, stumbling about nearly harming herself in the process. She wasn't a puppy anymore.

Though she wasn't old either. Not yet. The only thing that bothered her these days were the kinks in her tail when she couldn't stretch properly. But besides that well she always knew this day would come. She was supposed to be rehomed, however, to a family friend, or so she and the family had thought. As it turned out they weren't as good as everyone believed and simply wanted to sell Yvette for money. However, Yvette had other engagements.

Quite promptly that following day, the floppy-eared dog squeezed out the house door that the human had left open ajar lazily and simply started down the street. She thought of going back to her old home, but decided against it. Her old human didn't need to be worrying about her anymore, especially not with how hard things had gotten for her lately. So she trudged through the snow only to be found by the SCS Animal Control. She figured they might be able to help her figure out her new life.

Luna, like the Ghost Of Christmas Present is very caring and jolly. Luna has a big heart, and to show it she offers up scraps of her food to dogs who may be weaker than her. Towards puppies she also will sacrifice most of her needs for their health, such as extra warmth, food, and water. She doesn't seem to have a problem with any dog, and is very friendly towards them as if they were her own littermates. Towards more grumpier dogs she is constantly pushing them around, trying to make them happy. She'll bark at them and try forcing them to play a game for an hour at least, or even bringing more dogs over to them. She wants everybody to be happy and it always shows in her!

            ───────────────────────

nadezda represents the ghost of christmas past for several reasons, and those being that i will explain──one i can firmly explain being that of the origins and how they correlate. as you and everyone else should know, dogs originate from wolves. over time, the wolves that befriended the humans domesticated and took form of the pets we know today──but how might that connect with the ghost of christmas past? well, being that nedezda is a czechoslovakian wolfdog, that are more closely related, at least in looks, than other dog breeds; therefore, they are more closely related to the dogs of the past that were, centuries ago, wolves. this is exactly what the ghost of christmas past is supposed to remind us of anyway; our past selves and how we once were all that time ago──wolfdogs like nedezda allow us to look back into that brilliant time of the past.

there are other reason, as well, to why i believe that this beautiful girl represents this particular ghost. by the way they are portrayed in the books, movies, and more, they are always a light spirit that glows brightly and nearly blinds the eyes. though i don't feel blinded by her appearance, the contrast of her coloration against those of her companions, the large ovcharka and basset bleu, truly show how she glows and shines brightly in ways further than just appearances, but in her nature as well.

lastly, i believe that she represents the ghost of christmas past by her placement in the image (she is further in the back, behind the others) and how she is positioned. though these factors might not have anything to do with her characteristics as to who she is, i really do feel that the mere positioning of things can show key qualities of the characters──especially in this situation, when all i have is an image of who she is, and thus i must form the character i believe she most definitely is. thus, by her placement behind the others, it shows her as the past if you are to look at it in chronological order, or from back to front. by her looming above the others, watching them from behind, also shows an important role of her character that is in the story of a christmas carol──the happenings of the past frequently affect what is happening in the present and even future, looming above like a constant reminder.

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

Prompt: Most believe that Christmas Past can be wonderful happy things, but that isn’t always what can happen in the past.

Ada remembers when her first Christmas came around, it was when was she was first adopted, just a few weeks old, barely able to keep standing up without falling over her clumsy little self. She remembers the bright eyes of the children as they unwrapped the box she had been in. The screams of joy, the loud joyful crying. It was overwhelming really, but exciting to have a family that would take care of her, or at least that’s what Ada has thought at first.
It was almost like all the classic stories you see about how the family finally gets a dog that they wanted for the longest time, just for the dog to get disregarded like another Christmas present. Ada had fun with the family as long as it had lasted thought, which was only a few months. Soon spring had come and the kids went outside a lot more, just not with Ada as much as she hoped, but it started to become bad. She was left anywhere that the family had tried to go, mostly with family.
They had thrown her out. Just like every other little toy from Christmas, thrown away.

Slowly falling into a state of sadness, Ada grew up without being taught almost anything, often getting in trouble since she didn't know any better. The family tried to get her to behave better, but it just didn't work out well after so much damage had been done to her. Ada was just a puppy at heart, still, it wouldn't work too well. Ada slowly just got too crazy for the family to handle and they ended up sending the large dog to a shelter, just before they were also about to be adopted out they escaped from the shelter as a worker had accidentally left the cage door open. She roamed for a while, staying away from everything human-like at all. Ada wasn't very trusting of anything that would come her way, often growling and running away from anything like that.
Ada slowly began to sink into sadness, not being truly wanted by anyone.

After a while of being on the streets, she ended up being caught by a well-known shelter that was friends with SCS. The shelter ended up being full during the snow storm and was taken to SCS just before they got snown in. Ada is still learning how to trust, but being stuck for a while with the shelter workers, might have helped a bit.

Prompt:
Ghost of Christmas Present, because he is really happy all the time. He may not be a giant, but he has a big heart. He would rather have peace than seeing fights, and believes people should have good will towards one another. He doesn’t like people or animals who speak mean or bully others. He also believes he had many siblings, because his earliest memory was more warm little bodies squirming and crying beside him.

Loving Christmas, he always awaits a special treat or toy, if he should be so lucky. He enjoys playing and eating, so...both are good options for him. The staff seem to enjoy his natural cheer, so they give him a little extra attention, head pats and pets. He remembers a little girl doing this while he was still wandering the streets, in the park that time, but...her mother thought he was dirty and would bite, so pulled her away.

He was sad about that, because he remembered the little boy and girl of his first family, when he was a puppy... Joanna and Henri adored him, and he loved them back. The second family to take him in didn’t actually pay him much attention, but he wanted them to be happy. They didn’t even know when he slipped out of the house... When SCS staff picked him up, he was really happy, and wants them to be happy too.

[234 words]

(extra?)

Nico has since been shown interest by many potential adopters, but only one seems to have captured his interest. Her name is Jasei, a French American girl still living with her parents. Nico shows some interest in the parents, if interest is the right word. However, he pays much more attention to the gingery redhead. Thus far, they’ve come in three times, and it’s looking like the parents really probably allow Jasei to adopt the dog. She is incredibly pleased with the thought, as she’s bonded with the sweet boy.

It’s been discovered his favorite treats are pet safe/friendly meatballs, and he really likes turkey as well.

His favorite toys are squeaky tennis balls, and stuffed horses and wolves.
