Scott is named after the famous British Antarctic explorer, Captain Robert Falcon Scott, who was part of the first explorat to set foot on the continent. They set a new ‘closest to the pole’ record, of 660km or 410 miles from the Pole. One of the members of the crew, Ernest Shackleton, left them because of disagreements with Scott. This led to Scott and Shackleton’s crews having a race to the Pole years later. Shackleton was the first to make it. A few of Scott’s crew died on the way there, and after hearing the news that Shackleton has beaten them, the rest died on their return to their ship. The name was chosen because Robert Scott is one of the most famous British explorers, and he explored an icy wasteland, which matches Scott’s feathers.
