Grass swayed, rocking side to side like the small waves which formed on the lake. The birds had grown quiet - the hares and squirrels were tucked away in their burrows. The world held its breath, knowing what was to come with the early darkness of the sky.

He walked alone in the silence, his pelt ruffled from the argument he had hosted only a few moments ago. His paws were heavy on the ground, crushing and pushing blades of the tall grass to make room as he marched along, only half of his focused resting idly on the hunting task he had set out to do. More than anything, he wanted to get away and breath.

His mentor wasn't the most agreeable cat. Brightstorm was very opinionated, and her methods of teaching him were frustrating and confusing. Their most recent argument was about hunting - particularly finches. The she-cat insisted that being in a tree was the better option, so that if the bird were to fly mid-pounce then it could still be caught. Lightningpaw, however, heavily contested that it was dangerous and foolish to risk a warrior for the sake of a measly bird. Their argument erupted, and resulted in Lightningpaw storming off, determined to prove her wrong and catch several finches through the classic methods.

After a few minutes of walking, he stopped as his mind fell away from the argument and rested on a single thought: Where are all the finches?

The forest, which was usually bright and lively with animals, was not quiet and a grey shadow hung over it, seeping in through the treetops. The closer he looked, the more he noticed how strange it all was. Even the insects were nowhere insight, and some flowers had even closed their petals. He stepped towards one of these flowers, his head cocked to the side as he investigated it.

Without warning, the sky exploded.

A earth shaking, bone trembling roar tore from the sky, striking the ground below. Lightningpaw immediately flattened himself to the ground. His fur puffed up, his ears pinned to his head, and his eyes and pupils widened as he desperately looked around, sure some great beast was about to descend upon him.

Above, the leaves began to shake and bob up and down as strange, tickling noises trickled down. From the leaves, droplets of water fell, striking his pelt. The cold soaked in through his fur, touching his skin with claws of ice and panic rushed through his body.

His mind shut down as instinct took over. With another roar from the sky, he took off, dashing through the forest wildly in search of some type of sanctuary. With each roar, his direction changed and he scrambled through the now muddy earth, struggling for a grip to keep rushing ahead. He fell several times, but each time he sprang up again, his fear only heightening until at last he found sanctuary.

A rock which sat at an angle, providing shelter just below it. He charged into it, smacking his side against its surface, and flattened himself to the ground, trembling from the cold and fear as he watched the rage of the sky descend. The roars continued, louder and meaner now, and the falling ice-water began to pool on the ground, slithering towards him and wrapping around his paws.

His heavy breathing morphed into helpless mews as he realized he was no longer in his clans territory, and the ice-water was removing the scents of the forest. With a trembling voice, he sheepishly cried out, flinching and tucking into a tighter ball with each roar of the sky. "Please, Starclan! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! I'll never argue with her again, I promise!"

He repeated his pleas over and over, begging Starclan for help. Eventually, a distant voice responded, calling his name.

"Lightningpaw!"

His head shot up and his shivering paused for a moment as he stared into the forest, looking for a Starclan cat.

"Lightningpaw! Where are you?! Can you hear me?!"

He blinked, then lurched back into a trembling ball as the sky roared again. Desperate and afraid, his emotions coiled inside of his chest, churning and snarling into a beastly scream which forced its way up his throat and to his mouth until - "I'm here!"

The scream seemed to be louder than the roar of the skies as it echoed across the rock which protected him and rushed out into the forest. The voice calling for him stopped, and he held his breath as his body trembled. It felt like an hour, but at last the figure of a cat broke through the bushes.

Tears formed in Lightningpaw's eyes and he rushed from his hiding place, crashing into his mentor as desperate, thankful, pitiful mews escaped him. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry, Brightstorm! I'll never argue with you again, I promise!"

Brightstorm gazed at her apprentice in confusion, then smiled softly and touched her nose to his head. "You're soaked to the bone. Follow me, I'll get you back to camp!"

He walked beside her, his shoulder touching hers at all time. When the sky roared and he cowered, a comforting touch from Brightstorm gave him the courage to keep marching forward through the icy cold.



The next day, he was in the medicine den, his nose dripping as occasional sneezes shook him. Lightningpaw still fears storms. If he sees the signs arriving, he will not leave his den in camp. He fears that they are the wrath of Starclan, particularly as punishment if he had done something wrong. It is almost guaranteed that after each storm, Lightningpaw will rush to apologize to whoever he feels he may have wronged. More than anything, however, since the day of his first storm, Lightningpaw has never once argued with his mentor, and now views her in a heroic light, holding her in high regard.

Prompt: murkstream's hunting skill relies on storms. they are a famed fisher in their clan and having a stormy day is step one in their technique. murkstream will wait until a rainstorm comes in, then head out to a turbulent river. their swimming ability gives them no trouble in the rushing water and it will also easily catch fish by surprise. without storms, murkstream feels as though they can't function.

Prompt: Snowstep is a complete diva. She is perfectly fine with thunderstorms as long as she is covered, or not in them. She easily falls asleep to the pounding of the rain and thinks the lightning looks pretty. However, when she is getting drenched in rain it is a very different story. She believes she doesn’t look pretty with fur plastered to her frame and will lose a lot of confidence for a small period of time, which is why Graystorm usually avoids sending her out on patrons in rain, so she won’t hide away.

Prompt: Thistle has always had an issue with storms of large proportions, while just little rain storms don’t bother him that much. Thistle had an accident when he was younger that kind of scared him of heavy rain and thunder, he typically has the med cats make a blend of herbs that calms down his nerves during the storms.

Prompt:
Antwatcher is known to be one of the more nervous types, so storms in general haven’t been very pleasant for him. He tends to take shelter where he thinks it is safest when one arrives, usually trying to calm himself down. Most of the time he manages to make it back to camp before one though, so he can hide in one of the safer dens there. Sometimes he has his half brother Eelspark to calm him down during them, which he’s very thankful for. His least favorite type are thunder storms though, they can get a bit severe where Sandclan is located. It’s hard for him to rest during any of them, even if he’s tired from a long day.

His favorite part of them however, is when they have ended. After the storms are over, Antwatcher loves to step out of hiding and enjoy the serene feeling of it all. The air seems to be nicer, and everything feels a lot cooler than it did before the storms. He especially favors this when it’s around green-leaf, since the climate in Sandclan can get decently hot during that time of year. Even though he loves this part of them, he still wishes it didn’t have to happen after a storm.

Another crack of lightning split the dark rolling sky, followed a few moments later by a rumble of thunder. Lynxstar glanced up at the sky as a rain-laden breeze ruffled his fur. Storms like this were a rarity for the Clan, occurring only in the short moons of the thaw-season.

Normally the Clan would be out and about, enjoying the brief period of warmth and the abundance of prey. But today most of the cats were huddled in their dens, hiding from the incoming storm. A few wind-ruffled hunting patrol had returned earlier, just as the clouds started rolling in, so the whole Clan was free to stay in camp and wait out the storm. Lynxstar himself wanted nothing more than to get back to his den.

As he strode across the camp, he caught a flash of movement from the doorway of the apprentice den. The large spotted tom squinted at the shadowed doorway and saw a dark shadow crouched there.

It was Moosepaw- the large apprentice was huddled in the shelter of the apprentice den, his fur fluffed out to make his already-large figure appear even bigger. His amber eyes flashed as he glanced nervously up at the sky. As another peal of thunder split the sky, he dashed back into the shelter of the den- Lynxstar could hear the other apprentices complaining as he stepped on paws and tails in order to get farther away from the open.

Oh, Moosepaw. Lynxstar shook his head, somewhat amused to find the large apprentice so spooked by the storm. Perhaps he could try to talk him around- but then again, Lynxstar decided as raindrops started to patter down, splashing across his nose and back- that could wait until tomorrow. He hurried off to the shelter of his den.

Prompt: oh, smokehaze and thunderstorms? a match made in heaven. he's the daredevil of the clan and always finds himself in dangerous situations- loving it. he absolutely loves going outside and standing in a thunderstorm, either because he feels like it, to show off, or to prove a point. he's very headstrong. smokehaze likes thunderstorms for a particular reason- everyone else hates them. he's known to find the beauty in things that others overlook, and storms are one of those things. while others complain about everything getting soggy, he mentions the scent of petrichor in the area. when everyone complains about the noise, he says it's a beautiful song from above. his favorite thing about storms is the humidity and feeling the warm rain on his fur, unless it's in winter. but yeah, smokehaze loves thunderstorms.
