Why are they so friendly?:
Rain paused from his scavenging at the sound of quiet, distant whining. His ears swivelled towards the sound and he brought his front paws off the bin and padded towards the whining. Glancing down the drain, he could see a small, wet, puppy in amongst the grime.
“Hello?” He called, unsure what to do.
“Please help me! I’m stuck!”
Rain glanced around to see if there was anything to help him before sighing.
“Stay there, I’ll be help.”
He grabbed the bars in his jaws and yanked it, pulling it free. He then jumped the short distance to the puppy.
“I’m going to grab your scruff and climb out. You have to stay limp, so I can get you out, mkay?”
The small dog nodded and waited for Rain to grab him.
He grabbed the fawn and black pup before looking up and making his way out, using the ladder-thing humans used.
Rain finally reached the top and dropped the disgusting-tasting pup onto the gritty ground. He retched, trying to get the taste out of his mouth before turning to the pup.
“T-thank you v-v-very m-much.” The young dog was shivering from the cold and Rain sighed, rolling his eyes before pulling the pup close and licking away the grime.
“You’re welcome. Call me Rain.”
“M-my name is A-Ace.” Ace replied, snuggling up closer to the warm Tom-cat.
After a while the pup had finally warmed up and calmed down enough to fall asleep.
In the morning, Rain shook awake the pup.
“Where is your mother? She must be worried sick!”
The pup looked up, confusion in his eyes. “I-I don’t have a mother.”
“Oh, a father? Brothers and sisters?”
Ace shook his head. “No.”
“Hmm… do you have an owner?”
Once again, the pup shook his head.
“Okay then. Come with me and I’ll take you somewhere.”
Several minutes of walking later they arrived outside a place stated ‘Animal Shelter’ and they sat down.
“How long will this take?” Little Ace asked, and Rain smiled slightly.
“Not long ‘lil fella, not long.”
After several weeks of foster care, both Rain and Ace got taken back to the shelter to be adopted out. Together.
