Name: Marl (it’s a type of stone)

Reason:
Marl wasn't his original name. He was originally called Minnow.
Minnow's young life was hard. With no mother and father to protect him, he was subject to harsh bullying. When he finally ran away, he thought his life would be easier.
It wasn't. He still suffered in the outside world, just in different ways. Very few mice wanted to help a bedraggled youngling, no matter how much he pleaded.
Eventually he changed his name to Marl. He realized that problems never disappear. You only become stronger, and rise above them. His new name gave him the strength to keep going, to even face a storm.
Because sometimes, to survive the storm, you need to be as strong as stone.

Reason: He and his brother were given birth to under a grape vine and were both nameless for a few weeks as they grew. The two pups were very loved and cared for and one day their parents said that they would be back but never returned. They waited and waited but their parents still never appeared. His brother started to cry, cry for his lost parents and now empty belly. He felt so terrible and heartbroken, and to ease his brother's pain the pup marched over and grabbed onto the closest vine and climbed it. He pulled off as many green, juicy grapes as he could, tossing them down to the ground for his brother to eat. He then earned the name Vine, while he took to calling his chubby brother Grape.

Reason: Basil was the only pup born to his parents, who had lived most of their lives as loners. At first, he didn't have a name. He was only referred to as their 'son'. It wasn't until a month had passed that he was finally given a name. His father had taken him out to gather food with him, and they had ended up stumbling upon some basil growing in a patch. It was the first type of food he had harvested before, and not shortly after it had became his favorite food as well. Seeing how much their son loved the plant, his parents decided to name him Basil in honor of it.

Reason: He was born into a family of healers and despite his parent's best efforts, his siblings did not survive the winter. When his fur began to show its patterning come spring, his mother gave him the name Yarrow for his coat reminded her of the delicate yarrow blossoms as they swayed in the meadows. Having such a name, he was taught well the difference between his namesake and poison hemlock, which saved his old tribe when some inexperienced apprentice gatherers brought it back instead of yarrow.
