"If you have friends, you gotta know which ones to keep and which to leave.
Well, for me, you better hope you're far away from them once the both of you are apart...
Back before I joined the clan, I was a loner who befriended another loner in the woods.
What are the odds of meeting another cat! I meet this pretty white she-cat with green eyes and a large
black mark over her left eye who's name was simply Leaf. Me and Leaf went waaay back.
Anyways, we made a pact together {more like she did!} to never give up or lose
each other. Well one thing led to another and she wanted to settle down and start a little
family together. Thing was, I wasn't ready to settle down and have kits since it never really
crossed my mind. After that, we kinda became distant between each other...
Fast forward to some months later, I'm much older and mature than the younger me. I
work hard to support my clan and I'll do anything to keep it's borders and camp safe. I
was out one night hunting during leaf-bare to get a bit of food back to camp. I had went
a separate way from the hunting party. I had caught the sweet but faint and deathly
smell of dead deer. It's very rare to catch deer but during this time, it was easy to find
their bodies littered in the snow when the harsh wind comes. I sniffed out the carcass of a fawn
and proceed to check if it was still edible. I went to search for the hunting party to
notify them of my find when I suddenly heard a loud crunch in the snow. The whole world
seemed to go silent after that noise. I readied myself for a decent fight when suddenly
the assailant emerged from the dark trees. I instantly noticed the striking green eyes
and the large black mark over their left eye...
My heart jumped with sudden memory and regret. She glared at me from the top of a tree
stump, her tail twitching angrily. I was completely at lost on what to do but before I could
react, teeth and claws lunged down at me...
She was mad that I left her. That I forgot our pact and that we could have been perfect mates.
She was much angry than a bear. I tried to explain but she wasn't have any of it. She wanted to
kill me for it. She wasn't going to stop until she got her revenge on me. She wanted my head on
a stick..."
Leaf-bare is always the worst. Very little food to go around and sickness came with
it. FinchSong went out for hunting, hoping to feed some of his clan. The
air was harsh and he felt numb as he marched out into the snow. In these
parts, snow can reach as tall as a cat and so, you have to be prepared for the troubles.
FinchSong tugged through the stomach-high snow that filled up the ridge near the clan. He was
so lucky to be accustomed to this cold, most cats would have been goners. He stood in the middle
of the ridge, whiskers twitching and tasting air. Nothing but frost and cold filled his throat.
He sniffed around the fresh snow, the very faint smell of distant prey filling his nose. He walked and pawed around. FinchSong was close to giving up until he noticed an odd, dark shape by the far edge of the ridge. With a little hope in his heart, he bounded through the snow towards the shape. It was the still slightly soft carcass of a fawn that probably died of the cold. He inspected it to make sure it wasn't sick. Finding a good place to grip, FinchSong proceeded to drag it along with him.
There was suddenly a sharp snap of a twig. The air went still and FinchSong tensed. Who was there? He looked up cautiously until he made eye contact with something in the dark line of trees. The shape started moving towards him and before he could hiss, the shape took form of a cat. FinchSong's blood ran cold and his heart started beating harder than ever.
He recognized the black mark on the eye and the piercing green eyes that seemed fiery. The cat was lanky and starving, the bones visible under thin fur and skin. It was Leaf, a cat from FinchSong's past. The skinny creature glared angrily at him with the rage of a bear from the top of the dip. He was at a lost on what to do, he had thought she was long gone. Before he could say a word, Leaf flicked her tail as a signal to shush. She didn't want to hear him out.
"You left me. We promised to stay with each other through thick and thin. BUT LOOK! You have the nerve to be full with food while I'm left out to STARVE!", Leaf hissed loudly as she started to stalk over to FinchSong.
" You PROMISED to stay with me! The LEAST you could have done was to check up on me!", the furious she-cat roared as she landed a swipe at his back, the wound was enough to snap him back to reality.
"I didn't know if you were still in the forest!", FinchSong roared back as he lunged at Leaf.
The she-cat fought furiously but FinchSong tired her out quickly. Thinking of all the possible negative outcomes, he released her and Leaf scurried to her paws. FinchSong gave her a warning if she ever stepped foot back into clan territory. With a spat, Leaf ran back into the forest angry and FinchSong returned to carrying back the fawn to his new home.
