Meaning: Her original name was Leaf. She was born and raised under a yew bush, and the one thing her mother always told her was to never eat the yew berries. Her best memories were climbing the tangled branches of the bush with her mother and brother, Root. However, one day, Root fell from the bush and broke his leg. When their mother was gone the next day, Root asked for food. Leaf went out looking for oats and berries for him, but it was almost winter and she hadn't had any luck yet. As she was walking, she came across a large black and white mouse. He asked what she was doing out alone, and she explained her situation to him. He told her to run back home and feed him a yew berry, and when she replied saying that her mother always told her that they were poisonous, he told her that she was lying because they were so delicious that she wanted them all for herself. She was still a pup, so of course she believed him. She ran home, and fed Root, who was in too much pain to tell what he was eating, a yew berry. However, he soon started groaning in pain. When their mother returned, she was furious that he had eaten the berry. She asked Root who gave it too him, and since he didn't know the full story, he simply replied that it was Leaf. Their mother, out of anger, told Leaf to go away and never return. But before she went, her mother told her her name was now Yew, an eternal reminder of the horrible mistake she made. She never returned, never knew if her brother survived, and never found out who the mysterious black and white mouse was.
