name: Ki (means tree in Japanese)
gender/pronouns: Uh they/them or he/him
moment:
Ki one day walked down the street. He watched as the birds played their melodious tune and as the leaves gave a nice little rustling as if to accompany them. He was walking with his best friend. They did almost everything together. They were walking home from the bus stop. Ki's friend's home was closer than his was. Ki dropped his friend, named , off at his house. Ki then walked home.
The next day, when Ki arrived at school, his friend wasn't there. He thought that his friend was a bit sick so he continued school as normal. When he got home from school, his mother was standing at the door. His mother told him that they are going somewhere and that he shouldn't know until he got there. He agreed and then they went off. They arrived. Ki realized that they were in front of the hospital. He asked his mother why were they there.
~
She didn't reply.
He just followed her up the stairs until she came to a halt. Ki wondered what happened. His mother opened the door and let him in first. He came to see his friend in the bed. He was so stunned he didn't move. The two moms of the kids moved out of the room to let Ki and his friend have some time to talk. Ki came and sat beside his friend, Sochi. Sochi laid back. Sochi told Ki how much fun he had while the time was there. Sochi reached his paw over to rest on Ki's shoulder. Ki felt the paw there. He just let it be there. Then, the law slipped slowly away and the monitor made a loud long beep sound.
~
Ki then realized what happened. His friend died right beside him. He would never be able to laugh or joke with Sochi anymore. He wouldn't be able to prank Sochi or to even ride the bus with him anymore. Ki lets out a cry and ran out of the room, but Sochi's mom caught him.
~
"Thank you for teaching him to have hope in this world, Ki," the mother said. "He has been dying from this for a while, no matter what we did, we couldn't save him."
Ki ran away now, tears streaming down his eyes, never wanting to go back again.
~
Later on in fall, Ki watched the leaves fall to the ground. Then he learned that just as the leaves had been there a moment before and now they had disappeared and fell to the ground, a life is but too short and it can go by in an instant.
