"I miss Mom."

Brownlight heaved a sigh as he looked up at his son, crouched at the edge of the den, staring out at the evening rain.

"Me too," he murmured, curling around the young apprentice.

Bearpaw didn't move as his father gently groomed his ears.
"She loved days like this, didn't she?"
"Yeah," Brownlight chuckled softly as for a second he was pulled back to moons ago "She insisted that we all stay in the den and she'd sing for us."

Bearpaw smiled faintly at the memory "Yeah..."

He sniffled unhappily and buried his face in Brownlight's chest.

"Hey, hey," Brownlight whispered "It's alright, it's alright Bear."
"No it's not!" The boy's voice cracked as tears began soaking into Brownlight's fur "She's gone and she's not coming back."

"Shh," Brownlight breathed, fighting his own tears "She's not all gone."

"What do you mean?" Bearpaw croaked, pulling his face from Brownlight's fur.

"Well we remember her, don't we? We still feel her love for us."

Bearpaw took an unsteady breath and thought for a moment.

"So....we can remeber her....through the things she loved?"
"Yes," Brownlight smiled weakly "Like the rain."
"And the songs she sang."
"And the stories she told."

"And like how she'd wake us up to see the sunrise and the first light shining on the dew?"

"Exactly, she's still there, in the dew and the grass and the dawn," Brownlight touched his nose to Bearpaw's "And inside of us."

What was it that he did wrong? What did he do to deserve this? He didn't quite know. All he felt was pain, white-hot pain. As he lay on his side within the alleyway. Staring ahead of him, as his tears began to mix in with the first few drops of rain. The pain from his injuries hurt too much to move, as he watched the crimson liquid run down his muzzle.

" Your nothing more, than a disgrace! A downright coward!", were his fathers words. Words that echoed within his mind, never ending as they spun around his head like a broken record. Wincing at his tipped ear, when he twitched it to the sound of distant paw steps growing near.

At first, he felt fear. Fear that his father had come back to finish him off. But that quickly disappeared, upon hearing a familiar soft voice." Jake! Jake, where are you?!", were the cries of his mother. Some small part of him wanted to hide. So that his mother wouldn't have to see his weakened state. But his mind screamed against it, as the tears flowed once more.

" Mum!......", he called, hoarsely. His voice barely above a whisper, but still desperate. For a brief second, he feared she didn't hear him. However, the sound of movement closing in, told him otherwise. That was when he felt her soothing warmth, as she gently pulled him towards her." Oh, Jake, what has he done to you!?", she whispered, sadly.

But Jake didn't reply, as he buried his face into her chest. Parts of his white fur, stained a light pinkish red. Instead, he whispered something that broke her heart." Why does he hate me?", he asked. His voice was broken. Defeated. Crushed.

" I don't know, son, I really don't know"

prompt: Copperkit was found abandoned at a young age, he doesn't know how to feel. He doesn't really have foster parents as he was old enough to eat prey by the time he was found. Though he wishes he met his mother he quite likes how his life is.

Mintpaw never really knew her parents, one night they both just disappeared from camp. So naturally, the one cat with the ability to take care of her was Eveningflame. While not a queen, she understood the responsibilities and took the young apprentice under her wing. It was like mother and daughter and to Eveningflame, she was able to feel what it was like to be a real mother considering she could not have a mate or kits of her own and to Mintpaw, she finally had someone who loved her. While Eveningflame taught her the basics of herbs as a kit, she was unsure if she wanted her to become her apprentice and so was Mintpaw (kit at the time.) When Mint finally became a warrior's apprentice, Eveningflame was very proud of her and only grew closer since then. One day, while helping her collect herbs, a coyote attacked and Mint immediately jumped into protect her mother. Her and the beast were locked in combat, but the under-trained apprentice was obviously loosing and her strength began to ebb. Eveningflame went to find help and by the time she got back, the coyote was already running away, but the kit's pelt and the ground around her were dotted with blood, the tip of her ear gone and a couple wounds. The medicine cat would nuzzle and lick the young apprentice furiously, telling her how mouse-brained she was to try and face it alone, especially for her. Mintpaw would only smile weakly and mutter "That's what families do," before being carried back to camp to get her wounds treated.

"I don't remember it, because I was very young, but Maplestar says he found me under a fallen log. After the storm blew through our territory, I must have gotten trapped under the tree, and my mother must not have been able to get me out. Maplestar doesn't talk about my mother, probably to avoid upsetting me, but I think about her. I was sure I had siblings. Perhaps she had fled the storm with them, unable to remove me from under the tree. Afterall, it had taken both Maplestar and Kestrelwing to do that.

Maplestar has mostly raised me since. There aren't many cats here, but both Maplestar and Kestrelwing tried very hard to make sure I was taken care of. Kestrelwing's a bit mean sometimes, and she doesn't seem to have much patience, but sometimes she'll curl around me and groom me or talk to me. Maplestar's the one I really look up to though, because unlike Kestrelwing, he seems to have unlimited patience. He answers me thoughtfully and completely. He's so brave too, even fighting off an owl that flew into one of the openings in our tree!

I really like Maplestar. I want to be like him when I grow up, strong and reliable. He taught me all these big words too! Everything's a little confusing here, and not everyone knows what to do all the time, but this Clan is new. Maplestar explained what a Clan was to me too, with Kestrelwing laying nearby and occasionally butting in to correct him or ask him if he was sure. I'm not sure what all will happen, but I'll work really hard to be good to my Clan, and to the cats that live here too."

He didn't really know his mother. She was some loner, he would hear in stories later, one that left him at the border as a young kit. Smokedance found him, and brought him into her Clan.
. So as far as Foxpaw is concerned, Smoke is his mom. He looks up to her more than anything, and follows her around the camp like an adoring lamb. He's so grateful to know her.
