Rise | #0335

Postby CertainNorth » Sat Mar 17, 2018 6:37 am

Welcome to Rise!
Rise is an adoptable based on Warrior Cats and focused around world building and character development.
Please make sure that you read the main thread so that you understand limits and levels!

This is a sibling competition and I encourage partnering with another member of the rise community to complete your forms together! I don't care who does what on the forms, but it should clearly be a team effort (i.e. one can do both art pieces and one can do both stories, or you can each do the story and art on your own forms) This is an open competition where I would just like you to tell me why they are in different clan from their sibling. There should be a story component (600wd max) and an art component(colored) per form. That's 1200ish words and 2 art pieces together. I'm looking for creativity/effort and interconnected-ness of both forms :) (Please no extras)

"come on, quailpaw! gonna let your sister have all the fun?"
8 moons | female | apprentice | owlrunner | dimi | silentclan | w/ sunlitsecrets
≋≋≋

The sun beamed down from between the white fluffy clouds in the otherwise vibrant blue sky. Owlpaw and Quailpaw were on a border patrol with two other warriors, Robinsplash and Flinteye. The border they were making their way to was across a large river, one that branched out into several, much smaller canals scattered throughout the forest of Shoalclan. There were a few stones in the rushing blue water, lined up in a neat line to serve as a crossing bridge for clan cats. The stones were the only ones in the river that were't completely covered by a slick layer of green, slimy moss.

When Owlpaw and Quailpaw approached the river, Owlpaw's tail brushed against Quailpaw's spine. "I got a little challenge for you." She said with a grin that looked like it could span from ear to ear. Quailpaw's ears naturally went down, when Owlpaw had a challenge, it was naturally going to either be something dangerous, or something that was harmless, but could get them in trouble with the clan. He did, however, admire his sister and respected her wishes.

"Alright, what's the challenge?" Owlpaw's gaze shifted back over to the river, as she glanced at him from the corner of her eye occasionally.

"I bet I can jump over this river. Can you?" Owlpaw asked, the ending of "you" being drawn out in a taunting, playful fashion.

"O-of course I can!" Quailpaw stammered in embarrassment. "Watch! I'll prove it!" He exclaimed, seeming to be in a panic. He backed up, and then darted forward, taking a long leap forward. About halfway across the river, he went down, plummeting into the cold water. His head peeked above the water, a long meow escaping him as he wailed for help.

"Quailpaw!" Owlpaw cried out. When she tried to move forward, she found that her legs wouldn't move, she was frozen in shock. She shook her head to rid herself of this feeling, and directly before she was about to jump in to help him, a large splash could be heard from the river, a large gray pelt visible in the river. The two briefly disappeared beneath the water, and eventually resurfaced. Flinteye had jumped in, and dragged Quailpaw to the shore.

Owlpaw ran up to Quailpaw and nuzzled her head against his neck. "Quailpaw, I'm sorry.. you almost made it though!" She said in a panicky manner, trying to force herself to be optimistic. Flinteye gazed down at the two and shook his head.

"Let's head back to camp, you two." Flinteye said in a soft manner, the glare he shot Owlpaw like a million claws tearing apart her pelt. The patrol made their way back to camp, Flinteye holding Quailpaw by the scruff. Robinsplash was instructed to keep Owlpaw away from her brother for the time being, the fact that she was a rather poor influence now prominent.

Once back at camp, Otterstar, leader of Shoalclan immediately approached the patrol. When he saw the drenched Quailpaw, his gaze turned to Owlpaw. "What did you do this time?" He said in a low hiss. Owlpaw's head was up high, and she spoke in a tone that tried to be respectful, but came off as rude.

"I made another mistake, okay?!" A moment of silence was shared between them before Otterstar sighed.

"Owlpaw, you have been a poor influence for your brother. You'll get him killed one day if you keep this behavior up!" Otterstar exclaimed. "You are such a danger to Quailpaw, I'm done!" He said, shaking his head. "We will have to settle this differently." Otterstar's tail flicked, ushering the deputy over. "For the sake of the safety of Quailpaw and yourself, we must banish you. You will not be allowed to see each other, and if word gets back to me that you are going against this rule, we will have problems. Understood?"

Without a word from Owlpaw, she was picked up by the deputy, where she stared helplessly at Quailpaw as she was carried out of the camp. She then watched as Quailpaw was picked up by the leader, and taken out through an alternate exit.

the story continues . . .

Robinpaw

Postby HibiscusBlossom » Sat Mar 17, 2018 7:32 am

username: ❤TinyTabby❤
name: Robinpaw
age: 8 moons
gender: Tom
rank: Apprentice
clan thread:
Valleyclan
story:
xxxVibrant hues of pink, orange and yellow streaked across the sky, casting a gorgeous, dim, pink light across the forest. The wind stirred and rustles the leaves on the trees and carried the scent of the night along its cool breeze. He drew in a slow breath, taking it all in. This would be the young ginger tom's first time within the forest that belonged to Valleyclan, let alone in their camp. He could hear the slowly fading calls of birds in the distance, and the quiet roar of the waterfall brought him an odd sense of calm. I like it here. He decided, casting a sidelong glance at his brother, who was just starting to settle down in their nest. He'd give his darker-pelted brother a nudge, who lifted his head and looked over at him."Do you like it here?" Questioned the apprentice, his voice a quiet whisper. "Well--" He began, only to be interrupted by a yowl, which split through the crisp night air. Robinpaw shot up and made his way outside, Ravenpaw following close behind. He could already hear a frantic voice, pleading for help. "Please, Flintstar," She wheezed, her flanks heaving, "many cats are sick including Swiftstar!" A large gray tom frowned, narrowing his eyes in concentration. A pale ginger tabby trotted forward, the calico's gaze quickly fixed on her. "Eveningflame is a medicine cat, can't she come." Flintstar shook his head, "She's busy here." He replied, kneading the ground. "But we have no medicine cat? Surely you can spare one young cat to help us?" The leader seemed to succumb to her wide, pleading eyes and began skimming the clearing, many of the apprentices retreated to the den in hopes of not being chosen. Then, his clear golden eyes rested on the two brothers. "One of them will go." He rumbled, flicking his fluffy tail at them. Robinpaw leaped up, fur bushed up in alarm. "You can't do that!" He cried, but he felt a tail smooth his ruffled fur; it was Ravenpaw. His brother stood up and padded over to her side. "No-No Ravenpaw." The two pressed their head against each other for a moment. "I love you." Murmured Robinpaw. Ravenpaw pulled away, his amber eyes filled with purpose and sorrow. "I love you too." He breathed, before turning away and padding after the Breezeclan warrior. His mentor,Flintstar, had approached in that time, resting his tail along his shoulders. "Each clan needs strong, young cats to help them survive this sickness." He meowed, his golden eyes filled with wisdom as he looked down at the distraught young tom. He bent down to his level, looking him in the eyes. "So you'll train as hard as you can for his sake and the clan's sake, you can do that for me, right?" His eyes lit up as he looked up at the clan leader, giving him a nod. Flintstar gave him a warm smile, then a nudge. "Then you better get some rest, we're going hunting in the morning." Robinpaw trotted back to the apprentice den, but the moment he was under the cover of earth and brambles, he flopped down in his nest and heaved a sigh. He curled up tightly in his nest, drifting slowly to sleep as he listened to the sound of the rushing water.

make your roots here, grow strong like wildflower

Postby Lady Masquerade » Sat Mar 17, 2018 9:59 am

    read this form first!!

    Username: Lady Masquerade
    Name: Petal → Petalpaw
    Age: 6 moons
    Gender: She-cat
    Rank: Apprentice
    Clan thread: Willowclan
    Story:
"Make your roots here, grow strong like wildflower"

The words echoed around the ginger kit as she stared up in awe at the healed, strong, and beautiful cat standing before her instead of the bloodied, unbreathing one lying against the grass. Glancing over, the kit raised a paw and used it to nudge the black bundle of fur curled up beside her. "Crow, wake up." She whispered, watching as the tom kit opened his eyes sadly and looked up at her. "Petal..I don't want to wake up..not without Rain.." He mewed, setting his head down sadly.
After a moment, the tom jerked up with a gasp, looking around before his eyes landed on the starry cat in front of them. Breathless, he sat beside Petal, and she looked back to see her mom gazing at them lovingly. A few heartbeats passed between them, and then the skies began to lighten, taking the starry form of Rain with them.

    ImageImageImageImage

"Petal, wake up! You're going to miss the sunrise!"
With a groan, the she-cat pushed herself to her paws, letting out a bored sigh as she looked towards the huge mountains, watching as the golden rays of the sun began to appear. "Crow, it's the same sunrise every morning. Why do you care so much?" She asked, her words going unnoticed by her brother as he stared forward in amazement, transfixed by the scene in front of him.
Looking back towards the mountains, Petal watched as the sun rose higher, impatience prickling at her paws. What was so special about the sunrise anyways?
As if reading her mind, Crow began to speak. "Watch the sun. It rises up behind those mountains, a place we think is full of danger and darkness. But how could the mountains be dangerous if something full of so much light rises up from them every morning?" He asked, looking to his sister with excitement glittering in his eyes. Something about his words gave Petal unease, making her look away. "Rain told us the mountains were dangerous. They aren't soft and kind like the valley is." She muttered, taking a small breath. The scent of nearby flowers calmed her enough to look up at Crow's disappointed gaze. "I guess," He said quietly, turning back to look at the sun.

    Image

A moon had passed since Petal's conversation with her brother, and afterwards Crow hadn't woken her up for anymore of the sunrises, choosing to watch them by himself. She could feel their relationship slipping, and she sat awake among the wildflowers, watching them sway against the sinking moonlight.
    "Petal?"
The she-cat turned to face her brother, his eyes glimmering with hesitation. He opened his mouth to speak again, yet no words seemed to come.
"She spoke to you that night, didn't she?" Petal watched as his ears pricked in surprise, and he nodded, coming to sit beside her as she continued on.
"Make your roots here, grow strong like wildflower.. That's what Rain said to me. The way the trees sway in the breeze, the sound of the nearby streams, the smell of the flowers around me..it's home." She meowed softly, looking up at her brother. "But it's not home to you."
Crow hesitated, letting out a sigh. "When Rain spoke to me, she said 'Soar beyond your nest, fly far like a crow.' I never knew what it meant until the morning you expressed your feelings about the sunrise. You feel something here in the valley that I don't. And I.." His words trailed off again, his eyes dropping to look at his paws guiltily.
"I understand. Don't feel sorry about something that is your destiny." Petal stood up now, her tail flicking as she nudged her brother in the direction of the mountains. He stared towards them, the swaying flowers filling the silence of each passing moment.
"Mom would be so proud of us." Crow said at last, his gaze traveling upwards. Petal's eyes followed, settling on a single star that still remained in the early, dark morning sky.
    "I think she already is."

username: arkin.
name: Dingo, Dingopaw (will be Dingostripe)
age: 8 moons
gender: tom
rank: apprentice
clan thread: Creekclan
story: first part can be found here!

Dingo felt relief and excitement course through him, and already the fear from the dog attack was draining out of him. The combination of emotions was enough to set him shaking slightly. “You do exist…” he said, awestruck.

“You’re lucky we do, or you would both have been lunch for those dogs,” one of the tortoiseshell cats said sternly. She had a badly bitten back leg, and blood glistened on her shoulder. “Kittypets, are you? No wonder you got into trouble. A warrior would have smelled those dogs long before they were in sight,” she said disapprovingly. Dingo was slightly offended by her words and his fur bristled in response. He felt Holly step closer to him, her pelt brushing his own, and he knew that, like him, she was starting to worry that these cats wouldn’t take them after all.

The darker tortoiseshell, Gentlestar, exchanged a look with the grey-and-white tom beside her, then spoke with a frown. “They’re only little, Morningstar. Even our own apprentices could have gotten into their situation.”
Morningstar looked the two of them over. Perhaps it was the sight of their wounds and Dingo’s shaking form that made her soften. “You’re right. They’re still young. What are your names?” she asked them gently. Dingo glanced at Holly, and gave her a reassuring lick on the cheek before replying. “I’m Dingo,” he said firmly. “I’m Holly,” his sister said, her own voice strong and clear, though he could feel her trembling slightly.

Morningstar gave them a small smile. “I’m Morningstar, of Creekclan. And Gentlestar has introduced herself. Our territories are next to each other.” She turned and pointed out the other cats present – Koalapelt, Bluestorm and Alfie. “So. You want to join us?” she asked, getting straight to the point.
Dingo and Holly exchanged a nervous look – “Yes,” they said together. “We thought… Well, that we were meant to be wild cats,” Holly said, echoing what Dingo had said when they set off. Morningstar frowned slightly, but Gentlestar was smiling in an encouraging way. “If you still want to join after that run-in with the dogs, then I don’t see why not,” Gentlestar said. “But it’s dangerous out here,” she added with concern. Morningstar’s tail tip twitched, but she only said, “Whose clan will they join, then?”

Gentlestar looked at them thoughtfully. “Would you mind if I took them in, Morningstar?” she said. Morningstar shared a look with Koalapelt, but Dingo couldn’t tell what it meant. “Even though they’re kittypets… if they managed to evade the dogs so long they must have some potential. I don’t want this battle to have been for nothing,” Morningstar said with a grimace, holding her bitten leg off the ground. “We fought just as you did, Gentlestar. Isn’t it fair that we each gain a clan member from this?”

Gentlestar nodded, though she looked as though she didn’t really want to split the pair. “Alright. Which of you would like to come with me?” she said to the siblings. Dingo gave Holly a nudge on her shoulder. “You go,” he said quietly. Holly looked at him sadly. “I wish we didn’t have to split up,” she said. “Me too. But we’ll see each other often, I’m sure of it. They said the clans are next to each other,” he reassured her. Holly walked up to Gentlestar, and Dingo turned to face Morningstar. “I’ll go with you,” he said, though he wasn’t sure he liked the she-cat very much. He just hoped that one day she wouldn’t see him as just a soft kittypet.

“Welcome to the Clan.”

TheSongOfTheStars. Male. Sunkit (Sunpaw, Sunclaw) Partnered with Jack Songclan

Like a rippling shadow, Firedark slipped into the first trees of Sootclan's territory.

It'd been less than a moon since he had last been there.
Less than a moon since he'd met her.

And now, like a moonbeam she came sliding out from between the trees to meet him, with an elegance that left him breathless.

"Honeypetal," he whispered and she smiled at him.

Firedark's heart swelled as he looked down at the two wringling wet scraps of life, nuzzling against Honeypetal's damp flank.
She beamed at him and he smiled back, coming deeper into the burrow.
"They're both boys," she said in a soft tired voice "What should we name them?"

He sniffed gently at one of his sons"What about Smokekit?"

"I like it," she smiled "What about the other one? You're so much better at names than I am."

"Sunkit?" He suggested, running a gentle tounge over his son's yellow stripes.
"Lovely," she murmured.
"You alright?" He asked, coming up to nuzzle her cheek "You seem worried."

Honeypetal tucked her ears limply against her head "I'm worried about them."
"What's wrong? Are they ill?"

"No, Firedark, use your head," her voice went sharp "What's going to happen to them? They're half-clan, that's forbidden!"

"Oh..." Firedark's voice trailed away. At first, when he fell in love with Honeydew he felt the fear of breaking the codes, but it passed as every nigh he slipped away and never was he caught.

But now it wasn't just a few stolen minutes beneath the moon.

Now it was a den in the plains that seperated the clans with two lives that were torn between two worlds.

"I... I don't know," he said hesitantly "Maybe we can take turns coming to watch them. "

"What about when they're too big to stay in the burrow? When they've grown? When we can't keep them a secret anymore?"

His ears flattened as he looked down at his kits "I... I don't know," he took a heavy breath and puffed his chest out "Let's not worry about it? It'll be alright."

Honeypetal shook her head "It won't."
"We'll think of something," he said, nuzzling her cheek "And we can keep it a secret if no one knows about them."
But Honeydew wasn't convinced.

"Hey Firedark where ya going?"

Firedark turned, halfway out of the camp as Willowsun called to him.

"Uh....nowhere," he said slowly "Just for a walk."
"You seem to be taking a lot of walks lately," she said "Do you maybe want some company?"

"No! No company! I like to be alone!" He shouted, and started running away from the friendly she-cat.

"But don't you get lonely?" She called chasing after him.

"No!" He yelled back.

Disappointed, Willowsun stopped following her clan mate and shook her head at his strange behavior as she returned to camp.

Sharp-eyed Sandclaw, Songclan's deputy, watched the entire exchange from the shadow of a nearby tree and after Willowsun returned, he slipped into the forest after Firedark.

At the burrow Firedark was greeted by his two sons who came bursting put to meet him.
He dropped the mouse he'd caught on his way and instantly the kits tore into it.
"Oh thank goodness you brought fresh prey," Honeypetal said coming out of the burrow "I haven't been able to find anything more than a rock beetle."
"We've scared off the prey again,," he sighed "We'll have to move dens again. Maybe by that stream."
"I'd like that," she smiled and nuzzled his cheek.

"Firedark?" A hard voice interrupted the moment and Firedark turned to Sandclaw's horrified face.
