Cedarpaw sat atop a stone jutting from the wall of the Pineclan camp. The bright Greenleaf sun was warming her blotched coat and she closed her gold eyes against the light; although she could still see its orange brightness. She heard some small voices below her and looked down to see the newly appointed apprentices skittering across the camp and following behind their mentors on their first day. She saw her own mentor, Mousestripe, trailing behind them and he looked up to meet her gaze. Knowing instinctively that he wanted her to follow, Cedarpaw hopped down and trotted over to the group. She fell in step at the side of the patrol. There were three new kits to train in the ways of the warrior, but the smallest little she-cat caught her attention.
The lilac tabby, Lavenderpaw, was probably only six moons younger than the elder apprentice, but she was practically half her size. This did not seem to bother her though, and she excitedly jumped about beside her mentor, question after question flooding out of her mouth. Once they were out in the forest though, she fell silent. She gazed around in awe of the greenness surrounding her. Cedarpaw looked up into the boughs of the mighty pines that protected her clan and remembered how massive they had been to her the first time she ventured out of her clans sheltered stone hollow. She was walking a bit behind the group and lost in thought, when a small frame appeared in her peripheral vision. She looked down to see the wide green eyes of Lavenderpaw.
"Hi Cedarpaw," she chirped, her tail flicking high in the hair. "Where do you think we're going? To look for intruders?....To fight some foxes?!" Her fur fluffed up in anticipation as she said this.
Cedarpaw stifled a laugh. "You think you could take on a fox, little fighter?" She asked her.
"With one paw behind my back!" Lavenderpaw hissed.
"Well, lets start with a mouse maybe," Cedarpaw smiled. "Or a leaf."
Lavenderpaw gaped at her in disbelief, swatting her with a small paw, before turned and snatching a leaf off the ground heroically and crushing it in her teeth. "Next!" she mumbled around it.
Cedarpaw's laughter was cut short by Mousestripe gently scolding the two apprentices, but they giggled under their breath at the back of the patrol and somehow managed to find ways to be together every day they could after that.
