Why are there so many butterflies?

This polychromatic pup known as Florian is widely recognized for his kaleidoscope of vivid butterflies and moths. Most of his butterflies are American painted ladies and monarchs, and his moth companions are rosy maples and elephant hawk moths. A common question amongst the civilians of Montpelier (where Florian and his owners moved to from Greece) is why these winged creatures follow the chubby pup as he saunters down the block? The answer is that butterflies have a strong attraction to pink, and pink is another color that this pup happens to be. Add that on top of his sweet scent of pumpkin bread and vanilla and you have a butterfly hotspot. Florian barely notices them as he walks down the street in his favorite white turtleneck sweater and pink harness, but he appreciates their company.

Why are there so many butterflies?:
"Butterflies," Cuthbert tells you conspiratorially, "are nefarious little beasts. They smell fear. They prey on the weak, and laugh in the faces of those who would call themselves strong. I have discovered their terrible truth, and they will haunt me until the end of my days to stop me from spreading it. I spend evey day in fear for the next. Please, you have to help me... they are waiting until there are no witnesses... then they will swarm, and I will not be so lucky as to survive again...."

You nod politely. You're fairly sure that the real cause of this butterfly plague is the flowerpatch he is napping on, or perhaps the honey sandwich he has squished against his cheek, but it seems rude to interrupt. After all, you did always think there was something a little suspicious about butterflies and the mocking whisper of their wingbeats...
