Since Althea is a quiet young kalon who
betrays little emotion in her day-to-day
life, it comes as a surprise to many that
she is highly empathetic. Her abundance
of empathy lead her to the healing magics,
where her techniques come from a
peculiar combination of proven science as
well as ancient tradition. While some of
her practices are often considered magic,
none of them actually are. The only magic
she possesses stems from her hairpin,
which removes the barriers between doctor
and patient. Both a blessing and a curse,
this allows her to feel the injured's pain
and diagnose issues more accurately.╘══════════════════════════════╛

Wish had found Althea holed up in her
room after a particularly rough day of
treating patients. The day had been
filled with many minor injuries, though
some were painful enough to make
Althea grit her teeth and hold back
tears. She was young yet, and not far
into her career, but she felt trapped.
Her desire to help people pushed her
to continue, but the pain held her back
and urged her to give up. Though Wish
had informed her many times before
there was no shame in quitting, as even
those without the hairpin sometimes
could not handle the job or the pain they
came face to face with every day, Althea
refused to quit and leave her patients
to the possibility of less accurate
treatments. ╘══════════════════════════════╛

Althea remembers little of the
day she was taken in by Wish,
but what she does remember
she remembers vividly. After
prying to find out as much as
she could about the young kalon,
Wish pulled out a small cloth
from the top of her dresser
drawer and laid it out in front
of Althea. It contained a great
many small trinkets, including
what Althea remembers best.
It was a small hairpin who's uses
in magic are incredibly versatile,
but never truly gives the bearer
any special powers.

In the beginning Althea's patients only had minor ailments,
those deemed just above seeing if it just went away on its
own, and so they brought with them little pain and left little
stress behind with Althea. As her skills progressed though, so
did the injuries of her patients and with that often came more
pain. While the pain could only truly be felt while near the
patient, and lessened as the distance between her and the
patient increased, her empathy and her natural aversion to
pain warred in such a way that they made her feel trapped
in her occupation. Though Wish assured her that with such
a difficult job not all were suited to in the first place coupled
with special circumstances in the form of a small hairpin,
there would be no shame in abandoning the path she'd
chosen for herself. Althea being the gentle soul she was,

When Althea began her healing
practices she was very timid and
unsure of herself. Through practice
and time she's become much more
confident in her abilities!

Althea finds that there is a certain
sort of poetry in the hairpin's use
in medicine. A hairpin is used to
pull hair away from the face,
often allowing the wearer to see
or concentrate better, which is
very important to those who work
in healthcare.

Since many of Althea's methods
are not cleared scientifically, she
does not own an actual licensed
business. Instead, word of her
services and skills travels by way
of mouth. She performs no miracles,
and is at just as much a loss for
curing serious diseases as licensed
professionals.

When Althea began healing the power given to her
by the hairpin daunted her and caused her to
consider quitting. She stuck with it, and has now
learned to deal with the pain and considers it more
of a blessing than she did when she first began. It
allows her to gauge and diagnose her patients more
accurately, and not have to do guesswork as to what
is really causing the issue. She's even learned how
to dull the pain for herself when it's necessary.
She charges much less for her service than most
other places, so poor kalons with low wages who
cannot afford to see licensed doctors often visit
her instead. She also tends to homeless kalons
or kalons who cannot afford to pay at all. She
didn't enter the business because it pays well,
she entered because she wanted to help those
in need. Because of this, some kalons refer to
her as an angel.
Althea's in a much better place with her skills and the
hairpin, and though there are always bad days with
her job, there are good ones as well. ╘════════════════════════════════════╛
