Username: D.J.D Vos Kennel: BCK Show Name: BCK Silver River Jumper Call Name: Osteo (derived from osteoglossidae, the family arowanas are categorized in) Gender: female Collar color: Mid-light burgundy Extra:Personality: Osteo is an exceptionally loyal and rather aggressive Hissan. She's incredibly territorial and is almost constantly marking the perimeter or growling at any stranger who gets too close if she isn't relaxed enough to be playing or swimming. As a pup, she was quite stubborn and very difficult to deal with despite the breed's usually easy to train reputation, often nipping or even full on biting her less professional trainers if they weren't being serious enough. The Hissan has long since (mostly) grown out of this behavior, although she is still known to be a little mouthy and still has a stubborn 'I do what I want when I want to' (Unless it's her jobs) streak a mile wide. She's very serious about her job and her show ring duties, and does both to the best of her abilities. Despite the often intense expression Osteo gets when doing agility or guard work, she does genuinely enjoy what she does and you can always see the way her eyes light up when on shift or in the agility ring. Unfortunately, sometimes she gets so engrossed in her duties that she'll forget to eat, although somehow she never forgets to stop and lap up some water when necessary. It often takes some gentle reminding (ex. placing the food bowl directly in front of her while she's doing her perimeter work) to get her to eat. She easily gets frustrated when humans and other Hissans don't take her seriously, which sometimes results in some unwanted trouble for the barn and kennel. Osteo can actually be a very chill, go with the flow, cuddlebug of a dog when on her off day and loves spending some of her free time just laying in the shade with her head in her handler's lap while having her temples scratched.
Sadly, Osteo is not the kind of dog you want to leave around children unsupervised. The moment someone pulls her tail or ears, or grabs her nose or paws, she starts showing warning signs that she'll bite. While growling sometimes makes youngsters realize they need to stop, more often than not someone gets bit. Osteo has yet to actually break someone's skin, but it's still very much a possibility. Small children aren't actually allowed on the stable and kennel grounds for safety reasons, though sometimes staff have had to ask to bring them in if there's no other option. Despite her occasionally dangerous behavior around young children, she's quite excellent with teenagers and actually likes them a lot when properly and respectfully introduced.
The silver Hissan needs to be introduced to new horses the same way as she's introduced to new human teens and adults, after that she'll figure out who she can and can't parkour off of in about a week. Osteo is generally pretty good at avoiding injury and can quickly race off or weave underneath and between legs to avoid a kick or bite. She seems to enjoy testing the limits with new arrivals for about the first month but stops harassing them after that point. Despite her leaping, Osteo would never actually hurt one of her charges and has never, ever jumped onto or off of a foal or pregnant mare. Osteo is actually well known for her tendency to sneak into the broodmare barn in the middle of the night while off shift to guard her favorite mare and any foal that mare may have with her. She's very trusted around the foals by both mare and groom alike, no matter the age of the little one. It's not out of the ordinary to see Osteo licking one of the foals while the dam stands nearby, or barking loudly for help when something's gone wrong with one of the mares or foals.Quirks: Osteo is an interesting dog. Despite being born and bred in the desert, she is a water loving animal and strong swimmer. She has been known to barrel directly into water the moment she's given permission, and if she isn't, she'll sit there with her entire body trembling from the effort it takes to obey. The blueish Hissan is also well known as a very active insect hunter, both on land and when swimming. Her favorite prey are locusts, which she'll leap after in massive bounds until the bug either ends up underneath a paw or in her mouth. She seems to find it very entertaining. To hunt bugs flying above the water while she's swimming, Osteo developed an interesting technique where she will dive and then launch herself off of the bottom of whatever she's swimming in if it's shallow enough. This method results in the canine leaping out of the water, hence her show name. She also enjoys trying, and failing, to hunt fast moving fish from the shore, since the frustration that follows often results in her leaping in and scaring her prey away. Osteo is also known to 'parkour' off of just about anything if she's doesn't get enough exercise. Horses, goats, other Hissans, walls, benches, cows... the list goes on. If it's big enough and she's bored or antsy enough, she will leap onto/off of it. Osteo also has a tendency to moonwatch, and has even snuck around to find telescopes in a mimicry of some of the employees who engage in the pastime. There are rumors that this is why her eyes are so pale, but none of them have any truth behind them. She's also been seen attempting to attack the reflection of the moon when near water, it's quite... odd.Nicknames: Ossie, Buddy, fishy-gal, Waterbug, Destroyer of Insects, 'DO NOT EAT THAT!', Miss Eerie, Dogzilla, Merdog, Siren, Creature from the Black Lagoon, White-Eyes, Dragonchild, Luna, Lumi, MoongazerCompanions: Cleo-
Osteo and Cleo have been raised with each other since they were around eight weeks old. Despite this, Osteo still sometimes shows aggression towards the other Hissan, especially when Cleo tries to steal bugs or shove Osteo into the water while she's fishing. Of course, Cleo usually has a reason for harassing her companion, as she's often the first thing Osteo launches off on when leaping about. This often causes Cleo to get knocked to the ground or into a wall. The two aren't off duty at the same time very often, but when they are one can usually find them play fighting in the shade or racing around the perimeter together.Richter-
Richter puts up with Osteo. The mare isn't actually friends with Osteo, but isn't particularly aggressive towards the canine either. Osteo treats Richter like her personal limo, leaping up onto the horse's back and riding around wherever she pleases. The hissan's been bucked off a few times, but it's never particularly deterred her from the activity.Art: XX*Note* I'm not really great at dogs yet or comfortable with how I can position/express/fullbody there so all I did is a headshot >.>'
