(( ahhhh, this pup reminds me of my GSD Jade, my precious baby girl ;u;

she died last year on july 9th—the day that I was in a devastating accident, a triple-rollover. even when the cops arrived on the scene, the very first responder told me later that he was so sure it was just going to be a body retrieval, from the state my truck was in ...

but as I realized that I couldn't regain control of my vehicle, I'd had a split second to react, and I chose to brace Jade in the passenger seat. that first responder I mentioned? yeah, he told me later on that the way the roof of my truck crumpled as it impacted the ground upside-down jarred the windshield loose:

if I'd remained sitting upright, in the driving position, rather than having flung myself to one side in a futile attempt to brace Jade and shield her from the worst of the impact, the windshield would have sheared through my neck, decapitating me. unfortunately, Jade was ripped open by the glass ...

I met the kindest Native American when my mom dragged me to the pound to look for another GSD (for the record, I live in AZ). he asked if he could share with me one of his tribe's beliefs—apparently people have gotten upset at him in the past for sharing stuff like this, can you believe it??—and it was just ... so beautiful and perfect.

his tribe believes that, at the moment of death, an animal who loves a human being can choose to 'swap', dying so that their human partner might live. and ... I loved Jade SO much, just typing this up has made me start crying ... but in a good way, if that makes any sense? it felt ... it just felt right.
