How did they get those scars;
"And there I were, head to head with a great black bear: the thing could be straight outta hell if I were ta describe it. Swung er claws so powerful and skillful, as if theys were great swords of ancient foreign lands!" Dolan chuckled obnoxiously loud and hit his knee with his hand. "She took a real chunk out of me that day, I swear'd by it, not just these here little scuffs; I have never been th' same!"
Kyran rolled his eyes, a goofy smile spreading across his face as he concentrated reeling his line in methodically to attract fish. "You say this bear was attracted to your cooking fish, right?"
"Yer, the beast was on a mission to steal... I could see it in er red, bloody eyes," the older Gator concluded. "That hard-headed thief had not the brains ta think twice about messing with a guy like me, though. Me, I got up on two legs and bit down into the lad's fur and shocked er. Bear ran for the hills so fast; fur all standing up on end!"
"Is that so?" Kyran yawned and sniffed the fresh, wet morning air.
"Yupper, kido. Happen'd last year, I'd say September, about. Just goes to show how we should be careful out here."
"Yeah, yeah. Your tall tales are scaring away my fish, that's all they're doing," the younger Gator spat.
Dolan took a seat next to Kyran. "My life-threatening experience was one-hundred percent true!" he exclaimed stubbornly. At the stern look of Kyran, he replied awkwardly, "Ah, I'll be quieter."

After a few hours of unsuccessful fishing, Dolan and Kyran were strolling down the thick forest trail to go home. Quite upset Dolan's friend was of not catching a nice fish, so Dolan brought them down the way bordered by flowers, hoping to cheer him up. If it didn't, he thought, he could always bring Kyran to go raid an ice-cream joint, as he always loved the treat.
That was when Kyran heard some kind of growling noise. "It wasn't close by, I'm sure it's fine. Let's just leave it alone."
Dolan, being curious, replied, "No, wait, what if the ol' bear is getting revenge? We have to find out now!"
"Okay, fine. But we aren't going too close and we run if we see or hear anything else."
"Alrigh', have it yo way."
They both kept low to the ground as they stalked towards the mysterious noise. Dolan lead the duo, as Kyran was scared out of his wits but came along because he didn't want Dolan to be alone with this creature.
Up ahead, down the hill, and under the shade of the leaves, lay the bear. This bear was the same one that attacked Dolan, but she was not as ferocious, in fact there seemed to be something wrong with her.
"You see anything?" inquired Kyran lowly, but he soon had his eyes on the defenseless animal lying on the leaves. "What's wrong with it?"
"I do not know, but I'll go find out!"
Kyran pulled him back before he was to go storming down there. "Maybe we should leave it, we shouldn't endanger ourselves," he said, a slight tremble in his voice.
"I'll be fine," Dolan assured. "Remember, I survive'd this beast once, I can do it 'gain."
As Dolan climbed down to the bear, Kyran couldn't help but hold his breath and close his eyes. Growls consistently came from the bear, but Dolan examined her, as she was not moving in any way to get up. Sharp metal rings showed themselves around the bear's front leg, clenching down with a remarkable force.
"What do you see? Be careful!" Kyran called down.
"Er leg is in a trap. Might need some help."
Reluctantly, Kyran climbed down to him, keeping his distance from the bear as much as he could.
"Try to hol' this open with me. Think we may be able to get er off," Dolan instructed Kyran.
The bear certainly wasn't making it easy, as it was howling in pain and showed its fangs, to which Kyran flinched and moved away. Finally, they were able to get the bear unstuck, a huge wound revealing itself, but the bear swiftly pulled herself from the trap and fled into the bushes.
Kyran panted, "That was probably the scariest moment of my whole life. Thanks for the experience."
"Eh, we have ta get out there. Take risks and such."
As they were continuing the walk home, Kyran asked, "So, why did you help the bear again? It could have killed you."
"Well, I guess animals gotta stick together, y'know," he answered with a grin. "The humans would've surely gotten the bear if she hadn't gotten loose. That and I should give back to the environment, the bear fishes as much as we do, only fair it stays that way."
"Spoken like a true poet," to which Kyran play-fought Dolan, the sun just starting to set with its purples and yellows clashing in the sky.
