"Do I really have to leave you, Mama?"
"Yes honey. I can't protect you anymore. It's time to fly the nest."
Tears dripped down my cheeks as I hugged my mum for the last time, before I turned and ran.
For fourteen years of my life I had lived in a sheltered condition, working on my skills with languages, with my maths and sciences, with my music. And now I had to leave my mother. When she was younger, my mum mated with an abusive Viscet, who is my dad. I have never met him, but my mum received a threat that he was coming to take me to his pack. To be a thief. After all my years of studying, I wasn't going to stoop that low, ever. So I left with nothing but my beanie on my head and my bag on my back.
The bag held all my belongings I could fit. My maths book, chemistry book, as well as my physics, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Greek and Latin books. I had crammed in my diary, my astrology book, and my flute. My harp had been left behind, but my guitar was attached to my bag. The last thing in there was my beloved blue star necklace my mum had got my for my fourteenth birthday. I took that out now, hung it around my neck with a sad smile. I missed mum already.
I walked for a good nine hours into the night, before I lay on my back to look at the stars. They were my canopy, my protection and my life. Though I had lost my mum, at least I had my stars.
