Salem may normally be collected and cool, but if triggered he can be relentlessly violent.

Mephisto basically drills power into his three boys. They best live up to his expectations, or he gets frustrated (though never permanently). The fact that Minnow isn't very strong sort of irks him and makes him spend some extra time in training with him.
His daughter doesn't always get the training (she's a girl, she can't fight! Bah! >.>) But he turns around and spoils her secretly with presents and hugs!

Salem often takes training too seriously. He is hungry for his parents' acceptance and goes far enough as to hurt Minnow and his brother more than needed. Though Mephisto secretly thinks it's good that Salem is "showing them how it's done" he also doesn't want the other boys harmed and scared off. He will think it's because of Salem that Minnow is a wuss in his eyes.
When not in training, Salem isn't much different. He's quiet and always has a suspicious smirk on his muzzle. His composure is usually very, very calm and collected but if he's rubbed the wrong way then he can do some serious damage... And he doesn't always leave a mark as evidence (ex: causing bruises under their fur instead of obvious blood).
