Halter Colour: A summer orange to cheer them up
Why this tolter is sad; Armoire was always an unusual colt. He ran from the other foals and refused to play with them, shielded behind the protection of his gentle dam. His sire didn't accept Armoire's skittish behaviour and didn't wish to communicate with him anymore. Armoire really suffered heartbreak when his mother was moved fields and Armoire had no other mare or stallion to communicate with. It all changed for Armoire one day though...

It was a cool summer morning and a soft breeze passed through the field. Armoire scented the air and plodded along the side of the pasture quietly. A sharp call alerted him and in the near distance, Armoire spotted a beautiful goldfinch, bright yellow, scarlett red, charcoal black and an ivory white. A perfect picture of summer. Armoire was definitely intrigued. He was a young stallion and this new creature interested him greatly. Snorting gently, the stallion approached the miniature, skittish bird. After a momentary glance, the bird began to sing beautifully and Armoire stood and listened, with his tail swaying slightly behind him. The bird continued to return every day that summer and every day the next summer. Little did Armoire know that it would be the beginning of a great friendship, something he'd longed for so long.

One summer however, the air was close and heavy and the air carried the threat of rain. Menacing thunderclouds rolled overhead and the rain began to drum against the baked earth. Armoire waited in the rain for the goldfinch and it came. Later that evening, the rain began to fall heavily and the goldfinch departed into the storm. Armoire was lead into the barn by the stable hand, because they were concerned about the storm. The stallion didn't sleep though, he just observed the forks of lightning and the racing raindrops down the window pane. That night was cold. Armoire continued to glare out the window and the rhythmic drumming continued.

The next day, Armoire waited for the goldfinch. He waited the next day also. There was no sign of the bird. Armoire guessed the bird wasn't coming back and he knew why. Armoire continued walking along the side of the fence.

Honesty: "At a first glance, it would appear that Armoire isn't happy and is always lonely. This may be true, but his one true friendship fell apart and he needs the company of other mares and stallions. Armoire is quite distant though and often dislikes spending time with others, so talking to him can sometimes prove to be a challenging prospect. He walks along the fence a lot. It's confusing, but someone suggested slowly introducing him to the herd and seeing how he handles it. Big crowds spook him though. Me and another mare now graze in the same field, but he doesn't communicate. He's not an old stallion, so will grow more confident and social over time. I think he'll be happy again, it just requires patience.

Why this tolter is sad; Argentum is sad because she's moved around so much. The mare never stays around in one place since she's a difficult ride, due to the fact that she needs a soft hand and highly skilled rider. The special care she needs to be ridden is why she's been sold around, tossed from barn to barn the minute they realized they couldn't use her 'properly' with the staff they had on hand. The mare is a high class competitor with the right rider, but the right rider needs to be gentle and have finesse. The barns always sell Argentum due to the fact that they don't want to let a gorgeous, talented horse go to waste. She goes to a place who thinks they have the stuff to handle her, but then it turns out they don't, and the cycle repeats. Argentum has seen many friends come and go. Due to her friendly, nurturing personality, each separation made her sadder and sadder. Since she was brought to her current home, Argentum is unwilling to respond and form attachments to others.

Gale's POV
"I believe she'll recover given time. I know the harsh rules of the show circuit, and when I was young I was tossed around, though for a different reason." The stallion paused and pawed the ground before snorting and continuing, "With the right human to guide her, she'll perform well and realize that she's staying here. Even if the owner decides that she'll be used as a broodmare rather than a competitor, she'll be staying here for a long time.". You begin to walk with the stallion, and he looks out over the fence at the horizon, "Argentum just needs time for her soul to heal. Being torn from a herd over and over is a hard experience, but she can make it through."

I like how Gale was connected to Argentum through showing, and also the atypical reason for her being sad. Congrats! [halter will be added soon]
