The diary of Freddie Baker
August 13th, 1961
Edward only gave me a black and white picture of the surface that he had taken. He said that the sky was a gradient of dull pink to purple and the soft rock was grey. Of course, I myself didn't go Ganymede (one of Jupiter’s moons) but I prefer to be a scientist than an astronaut. Apparently there was life. Huge fern-like plants scattered around, which were a dull green. I don’t know how they managed to trap sunlight in their chloroplasts, but somehow they managed. Rock appeared to be structured in weird shapes, twisting into different directions, some thin and some really wide, all with little craters inside them and weak enough for you to push them over. All Edward brought me back was some of the fern to look at the pigments in it by setting up a chromatogram, rock that had mostly been crushed on the journey back to Earth, and a strange seed the size of my closed fist. I have no idea where it could have come from; as nothing was fat enough to produce such a large seed (the ferns were quite thin). Planting it was the best way to find out, so I did.

I was reading my book when out of the corner of my eye, the soil in which I had planted the mysterious seed, started to move. From all of the things I had gathered from different planets and moons and kept hidden away, this one had startled me the most. I decided to move some of the soil to see what had happened, and I felt a soft, warm object. Out emerged a small wolf-like creature with antenna and glass legs protecting their bodily fluids. The only thing I could do at the moment is to nurse them like I would a wolf and record their behaviour. So far, I can’t figure out their gender.

So far only I know about Charlie (they needed a name that wasn't gender-specific). They have had experiences out in my garden, where I have kept a close eye on them. Noting down their behaviour has been quite hard, as Charlie seems to be sniffing and tasting everything. I've been feeding them meats which seem to be fine with them. So far, I have recorded that they don’t like water (they wouldn't let me bath them, so I just let her lick herself clean) and the glass on their legs may be quite thick, but can be broken. My orchid flower is now dead because their fluids managed to burn it. I best am careful not to hurt them...
August 24th
It’s been a year since Charlie first hatched from their seed. I honestly can’t imagine life without them. Even though they are really energetic, I try my best to keep up with them and being with them has improved my previously lonely life. It seems that they haven’t grown that much, so I expect they have a longer life-span than wolves. The thing that worries me is that they may realise that they came from Ganymede and not Earth. Of course, they can’t feel homesick as they have seen their original home or parents. This only makes me wonder what really lives there, but trips back to Ganymede have been banned, because the fuel costs too much and Edward came back severely ill. No-one is allowed to risk their life and I guess I will never find out what lurks on the surface.

Where I live wrote:“Radio!” Kas yelled happily. “I’m coming for you!”
“Not in a million years!” Radioactive called back. She kept panting as she ran around on the fields, running away from Kas whose paw was extremely close to her back. The two were extremely exhausted and tired, but they still kept running and chasing each other as they played Tag.
Radioactive saw somewhere else to run, instead of just plain green grass. Not caring if it was dangerous or safe, she ran down the hill, slowing her speed down to not fall down. Kas was obviously unprepared, and Radioactive could tell she too, was forced to slow down to safely descend down. Grinning, Radioactive took this as an advantage and picked up her speed, but seconds later she realized that was a careless decision. Her paws had slipped on the smooth concrete and she ended up doing an uncomfortable forward flip, her head banging against the floor and leaving a throbbing pain behind. Radioactive’s body finally stopped rolling and she fell limp.
“OH MY GOD RADIO ARE YOU ALRIGHT OMG” Kas screamed from the distance. Radioactive wanted to lift her head up, but her neck was straining in pain and made Radioactive have to keep her head down. Besides that, Radioactive was in extreme pain throughout her whole body and she could tell that there was blood around her.
Kas, by that time had ran down and sat down beside Radioactive, frantic and calling 911.
“Hello? Yes, my friend. She fell down pretty bad.” Kas began, “She’s bleeding. A lot.” Kas glanced at Radioactive, whose eyes were rather sleepy and ready to pass out. “She’s going to pass out, I think. At Woodsvile park. Her name is Radioactive.”
Radioactive barely picked up the sound of sirens before she closed her eyes and let the darkness invite her in.
“What’s this wall?” Kas paused. “It says, ‘Come, Code, Find, Kill, Kill, Get, Kill… Awake?” Weird.”
Radioactive followed Kas as she kept pointing and staring at the wall. The wall had the words Kas had repeated and images that seemed vaguely familiar. “Wait, um, what are these pictures?”
Kas shrugged. “I don’t know. These figures are... um…”
Radioactive stared more closely. Those figures looked like her, and Kas in ways. The first picture illustrated two animals walking into an HQ and the second picture had the same two animals looking at a wall with similar pictures.
“Wait… wait…” Radioactive began muttering aloud as she put the pieces together in her head. “No… no… it can’t be!” She pointed at the last two pictures.
The pictures had someone who was sleeping with a blanket huddled with them. The last word was ‘Awake’.
“Is this… all… a… dream?” Radioactive collapsed to the floor, kneeling. “Wake up… wake up… please…”
“What the heck are you saying?” Kas turned her head.
“Nevermind.” Radioactive stood back up. Kas gave her a look, but Radioactive shrugged and headed towards the portal door.
Radioactive entered the portal after Kas had wished her good luck.
There was nothing inside, but only a giant, red button on a control panel. Radioactive walked towards it, and the button read, “WAKE UP”.
Radioactive gulped as her paw pressed the button. Her vision blurred into darkness, but very quickly lightened up again. She saw she was in a hospital as she opened her eyes, but the thing that she really cared about was that Kas was standing right next to her, with a large grin and tears of joy.
