Place this Parra has traveled to: Everest, Nepal
Why: Everest, it the worlds second largest mountain, but the most well known mountain in the world as well. Standing upon the summit of this mountain would leave one in awe and even bewildered. This mountain sits 8,848 meters high and is also rather dangerous. This was a trip Kora had went alone on, Though hiring a guild to help her get to what is considered the first stop on her hike, Base camp. With weather being on the fly and people getting lost in storms that crash into the mountain in only minutes, having someone knowledgeable would be life saving.

January 3, 2014 ~ Journey Up the Mountain wrote:
It was early when I woke up, I was staying at the Office of the Guide whom would be takeing me on my trip to see the tip top of Everest. Knowing little to no Nepali, I was grateful to find someone that spoke English living here. The Guide simply going by Josh was a rather quite guy and not much for company. Though I was happy to crash in his office on the old worn sofa then sleeping on the streets for the third time this week. With my back pack and skateboarded in hand we headed out way to early for my liking, but apparently there is a "rush hour" to Base Camp.

Base Camp is at the very base of the Mountain, Base camp is made up of a bounce of old worn down building, which are mainly just brick walls with no roofs. For the first three days we set up Base Camp, butting tarps up for roofs and setting up radios and getting supplys together. Though Once Everything is set up we head up too the Second camp. At this second camp we set up strictly of tents, Kinda like the village of the tents. Here we stays for a full week, this is so our lungs can get use to the altitude and it will be less straining on our bodies when we got to the top.

Though it was a lot of work, The sight at the top was breathtaking, It was like standing on top of the world. The Clouds below made it looks as though it was a sea of its own. On the top, many prayer flags where strung along flying along in the wind. The Prayer flags, are meant to take all the good wishes and sweep them across the wind and around the world to everyone. Other on top of the summit where laying down photos of loved ones and other small items. But I couldn't help but stay in one spot and absorb the feeling of being on top of the world.

Why this job: Because traveling is something she loves, it's part of her life. But she loves to collect and sometimes sell things she finds or makes on her journey. Not everything she finds or makes is sold though, the few things she can't part with is kept.

Place this Parra has traveled to:
Hoia Baciu forest, Romania

    Why:
This forest is said to be haunted, myths and legends have grown around this place for years. Are they true though? She went alone on this trip, seeing as people would most likely slow her down in such a creepy place. Her goal? To see if there was even the slightest possibility any of the legends were true. If you asked her if she found any proof, she would only tell you to go and see for yourself, most likely sending you with a list of things she needs from the forest as well. This is a challenge for others, those who are curious and brave enough may go and see for themselves if the legend is true or they can decide not to go but never know.

Place this Parra has traveled to:
Glowworm caves, New Zealand

    Why:
The Glowworm caves is a magical sight to behold, and one she was happy to share with Pathika. Both were in awe as they stared at the beautiful cave walls which were lit with little glowing worms. It was almost as if they were in the mist of fairies in a mythical land. For this trip she didn't have a goal to begin with, but in the end she gained a friend who she hopes will be able to travel with again. If you say worms are gross, she will simply give you a map and tell you there is a treasure at the end, and if you decide to follow the map it will lead to the glowworm caves. What is the treasure you say? The worms of course, the beauty of how they are is considered a treasure to her.

Place this Parra has traveled to:
Sea of Stars, Vaadhoo Island

    Why:
The sea looks as if stars are floating in the water itself, but it's actually due to marine microbes called Phytoplankton. The effect of these tiny creatures is breathtakingly beautiful. This is one of her favorite places she has traveled to, having come to this place quite by accident. She was traveling, visiting a friend on Vaadhoo Island when she saw the Sea of Stars one night, staring in complete amazement at the scene before her. From then on she knew, if ever she made a home anywhere, it would be here were she could see the stars without even needing to look up.

Personality:
Saira is a sweet and gentle soul, she loves the outdoors with a passion. She loves pups and would
spends hours playing with them if she could. She is a great friend to those she meets, but do not
think she is what she always seems to be, underneath all the sweetness and gentleness is a
ferocious beast who’ll snap you like a twig in a moment’s notice. She’s not vicious or violent
most of the time, she’s someone who will be nice, even care about a few people but if you make
her mad you better run. She doesn’t like rude or mean people, thus if she catches you bullying
someone you’ve just become her enemy, if it’s a pup your bullying, you have a death wish. Her
love is with nature and pups, anyone else will have to earn her love, and that’s not always easy.
She is smart, knowing how to use her wits in tough situations. She is tricky though, so don’t
underestimate her or you could lose what little money you have.
Appearance: She has a rather mystic
appearance, seeming out of
sync with the world as she strides
about. Her eyes have this gentle look
about them but that doesn't mean
she's to be trusted nor will she trust
you. After all, don't judge a book by
it's cover.

Place this Parra has traveled to Rio De Janerio
To enjoy Carnival w/ Pathika
& Saudae

"Bump Into a Person in the Middle of the Road. Look into Their Eyes and You Suddenly Know"

They say the path to freedom is a difficult road to follow. To find yourself in these quests seems pointless to those who are afraid or held back by others. But occasionally you'll meet someone just as fearless as you. Only I've met two someones. How we met is really odd but well we all hitced a ride to the city of Rio. I honestly thought they were native and tried my hand at Portuguese, using my skills as a linguist to hopefully get some idea of who I was with. As it turned out they both spoke English to my surprise and delight.

We talked about ourselves. Honestly, Rio, it was unlike any place I'd ever been. It's tall palm tress looming over us in the back of a hay filled pick up, the smell of the sea, the beautiful wildlife surrounding us. When we got to the there, I was amazed by the twisty winding roads and streets. And especially the stacked houses. I thought they were beautiful too. We had picked this day specifically for when I mentioned Carnival both of my fellow travelers's faces lit up and we chatted animatedly about it. There were so many people about, many in costumes and beautiful clothing. More than once was I asked if I too were apart but I had to say no. I knew next to nothing about Carnival but still they welcomed me anyway, saying at least I was honest.

The two behind me were caught up, watching a drumline and street dancers begin this way. We all watched with starry eyes and I heard Pathika murmur that this was a fantastic place to visit and like wise, Saudae and I agreed. When the fantastic night of Carnival had begun, I couldn't tell you everything that happened because with the lights, the dancers, the food, the music, the party and the crazy parade it was quite hard to go into every detail, but I'll always remember it, even when I'm old and grey.

Place this Parra has traveled to Bahamas
It's always good to come back Home

"I Say Hey, I'll Be Gone Today
But I'll Be Back All Around the Way"

After Carnival it was time to take my flight across the sea, back to the only place I could call home. The Bahamas. The island of Nassau has been home to me ever since I was a baby girl. The only problem I had at the time however was leaving my newfound friends but I was quickly appeased when both turned out to be going to Mali, Africa around the time I would be there. I was delighted, especially when they said they were going to help, like me. Well the rest was history and after saying goodbye to my eccentric fellow travelers, I left for Nassau, Bahamas.

Now when I was a baby, I was told that the tongue where your people are is your home, always and forever. Of course, at the time the only home I wanted was an actual house. Born in Nassau, Bahamas I didn't exactly have a good upbringing until I reached my teen years. I lived on the streets of this huge city, often begging for scraps with some of the other children but I wanted more than just scraps. I had close to five dollars and a box of my own. By the time I was 10 I got a job as a delivery girl, bringing gifts for people all over the city. That got me out of my box and into the real world, starting my passion for traveling.

    Nationality:
    Bahamian
    Occupation:
    Depends on where she is;
    An array of odd jobs
    but at the moment,
    she works in volunteer

    in poverty around the world.

    Personality Type:

      A very relaxed
      young Parrapup with
      an intuitive sense
      about her.
      Compassionate and
      kindly, she's very hard
      to upset. However, when
she is it's usually a sharp
blaze of temper or emotion that'll
threaten to spill out all over the
place. She is snappy or irritable
at times but will often apologize
      and explain herself. Believes in
looking for the good in everyone.
      However she's very cautious
of others due to her natural
      disposition. As a dreamer it,
can be difficult to face the
      reality but she's getting
      better at it.

      - Compassion
    Dislikes:
      - Judgemental mentality
      - Harsh treatments
      - Her temper
      - Hurting others
      - Hypocrisy

    Art:

    I started small.

Nassau, I always knew in my head, was a big place. But until I began that job, I never knew how big or different it truly was from my side of town. I began seeing things like a tourist did and working my way up. I wanted to do more than just see though. I wanted to have. So I worked more jobs. A waitress here, a boat cleaner there, a shoe shiner there. Tourists always seemed to have money so I worked closely with them. Eventually with each passing of tourists that came in the Winter and summer every year, I'd earned close to a thousand dollars.

I told this story to a darkly furred tourist who'd wanted to know more about me and the Bahamas. Her name was Trella and she looked around the age I was when I left for the world. I invited her to a block party that I knew was at my friends to welcome me back. These were the friends I grew up with. The ones who'd been like me as a child. And oh how we danced! There was food, music, laughter, tears. Children played games and elders chattered amibly.

I stayed the night with a few, playing catch up as I regaled them in my tales of travel. Sitting there surrounded by friends gave me.......strength. And with my next trip coming up....I'd need it.

Place this Parra has traveled to Mali, Africa
To help

"I've Been a Lot of Places All Around The Way
I've Seen a Lot of Joy And I've Seen a Lot of Pain"

I knew an old woman who came from Mali, Africa. She lived in the Bahamas, in Nassau for 40 years and owned a bright pink house, but talked about Mali all the time. Once, some ignorant man asked her rather rudely "If you likin' Mali so much why don't cha go back?" And everyone was ready to pounce on 'im for being dumb enough to ask such a stupid thing. But I was curious too.

I didn't understand how badly the government was there, nor did I known of the riots or fighting that led to many abandoning their homes. I didn't know about the rebellion and the military's grip on power. I knew nothing about it. But I knew the woman.

The old woman hushed the group before telling them she left for the same thing everyone else left for: a better life. Old Woman is long gone now, but I never forgot about her living in Mali. When I would visit she was the first to greet me and the last to see me until about 3 years. Old age, her neighbors would sigh. She had sons that no one else knew about that had come to clean out the house. I remember wanting to protest the entire time. Where were they taking her stuff? What were they doing?! 40 years of the Old Woman gone; about 15 of my years left with it.

I'll be honest. I cried. That old pink house stood bright as always but after that day it looked far paler than I'd liked. I could only hope the new owners would take care of it, but it would always be Old Woman's. I learned what I did about Mali, Africa through stories and actual facts online. It was because of her that I get so involved now. So one 30 hour, 55 minute flight later I was in the arid heat of Mali, Africa. Two years ago I sponsored four children, but on this day, I'm going to help support them and a lot more. I reunited with Pathika in Timbuktu, who said that Saudae was coming soon. We got a hotel room and I asked her why she traveled here?

It wasn't like Rio. Mali wasn't inherently beautiful, besides the architecture there seemed to be not much else, or so it felt like. She said she knew that, but it's people were. And it was the people she was there for. I thought about Old Woman during my stay. I wish I had asked her why she moved to Nassau. I stood there on the land and watched the natives carefully. I thought of the Old Woman when I said hello to whoever was curious, thought of her more when I said goodbye. I brushed up a bit on my history to learn that once, Mali was a beautiful thriving country. The people around me were once kings and queens. Educators. Then the Scramble For Africa occurred and the French seized Mali. That was hundreds of years ago but you can see, and feel the history.

It......hurt. Once a country of prosperity, now a country of poverty. Pathika noticed the saddened change in my mood and sat beside me. She said she knew the feeling and I wanted to question her on just how could she know the turmoil I was feeling when I saw her eyes. She did know. The defiance drained out of me and I wished Old Woman was alive and with me then. The only comfort I could draw from this place was the surreal feeling that she'd been there. Maybe not exactly where I was in Timbuktu, but she'd lived in Mali, spent her childhood here. I felt......more connected to her. It was then that I realized I didn't know her name.

My musings were cut short when Saudae arrived and with a schedule for us from the organization that put all this together. We would be helping the children's orphanages in Bamako, and come back to Timbuktu to help feed the people, then wrap it up with helping families in Gao. Something stirred in my heart at the mentiob mention of the city but I nodded and we began to unpack. Now due to our traveling ways, unpack mostly means count up your foreign currency, have your passport on hand and a first aid kit. When you're always on the road, it's best to pack light. I live my life through a plastic bag or a suitcase. Still it's the only way I'd like to live. Once I dreamed of a home, but those days are gone and right now my dream is to help these kids, these people.

We left for Bamako two days later and wel I must say it was one of the most strongest reality checks that I've had in a long time. I learned what dignity meant when a woman put aside her pride for her children, I knew strength watching an old man in a wheelchair take care of his little grandson. I found grief here that I didn't let myself feel in three years, and I found healing. We worked on repairing that orphanage and getting them fresh water. Pathika was especially fond of the children and though Saudae kept his distance at first even I could tell he was growing attached to a trio of siblings, two brothers and a sister. As for me....I found myself growing attached to a lovely young lady, about 8 years old that had a fixation with boxes, specifically the one she carried. I recognized it immediately. She'd lived like I had, on the streets. She carried that cardboard box every where and I got a name to place on her. Nagobe. She called me "grande soeur" which if memory serves correctly, means big sister.

I was the one who helped her when her box was finally unable to hold up any more, having been weathered down by rain and wind and who knew what else. Her crying when it tore apart hurt me terribly because I was once her. I had once lost my box, my home and it felt so unfair. The little things that I had left were breaking and in that moment, Nagobe was me as a child, howling of the injustice of losing the one thing she had. That just wouldn't do. I found her a bigger box, one sturdier. More stable.

One of the American volunteers had tried stopping me, her mouth fixed to say the words that I knew were wrong. That it wouldn't help. That she didn't need another box, but I glared at her and hurried over murmuring quiet words of comfort as I dried the little girl's face. I gave her that box and watched as the hurt in those deep brown eyes turned to wonder and we understood, if no one else could.

I cried that night, emotions running wild as I thought of that little girl. Then I thought of more children and families, homeless or without help. I was lucky in a way and as was Nagobe. The neighborhood I lived in helped where it could, but even back in The Bahamas there were children like Nagobe. Had I never noticed them before? No. I knew they were there, skittering along the back of my mind like shadows.
But what did I do? Pretended to be a tourist that's what. I never looked in the less than prettier parts of any city, didn't look any man, woman or child in the eye.

I felt shame, pure and cold run through me. How could I live so blindly to not see this before? Traveling without purpose was one thing and I adored it but this wasn't right. There should not be so many without the means. Without the ability to just go.

But maybe I could....maybe I could. That's when I realized that perhaps I could help.

No really. I had the connections. I worked for so many people back in the Bahamas, all of which had promised me favors, there had to be one or more that knew what I could do. The wheels began turning in my head and I felt my heart thump in my chest. That night in my own bed I felt lighter than I had since this journey had started. And the presence of Old Woman felt almost real. I thought she was beside me.

The next few days ran rapidly for us. We worked on the orphanage for about 2 weeks, fixing and fine tuning, and re-painting. By the time it was done it was a completely different building. When it was time to go back to Timbuktu, Nagobe held my hand the tightest and I hugged her telling her that it was alright. Feeling two skinny arms wrap around my neck and a face press into my shoulder, well it was tough. I wanted to adopt her but I knew it was just the emotional impact of it all. I couldn't raise a child, much less while on the road. No, Nagobe needed better, she needed stability. A home. I promised if she ever needed to talk to me on the phone or internet, I'd be certain to keep in touch bur only when she was older. I felt the small nod against my neck.

I looked back as we got on our Jeep and headed to Timbuktu, and watched Nagobe she was out of sight and likewise she did the same.

The rest of my stay in Mali, Africa was one of the most emotional ones I've had in a long time. But I remembered Nagobe and what I planned to do. Why not make something useful in my travels? Why not go to other places and help there too? A little help goes a long way. By the time I left Mali, I had to say goodbye to my traveling buddies. It'd been lovely, but solo traveling was more my style. Still......I wanted to keep in touch with Saudae and Pathika and so we traded information. I was heading back home to the Bahamas, but I'd never forget this place. I'd never forget Nagobe and I'd try harder not to just be a tourist.

I was a traveler and I was going to explore both the good and the bad that came with every country, state, or city. I promised myself, Nagobe, and if she was listening, Old Woman too as I boarded yet another plane.

Why: This beautiful island has captured her heart. It's crystal blue waters surrounded by tall mountains is tremendously pleasing to her.

Place this Parra has traveled to: Aogashaima Volcano

Pretty traveling Parra, hnnnng ;w; I must resist, though, seeing as I've got my own wanderer already.

If you have any interest in trying out for this parra and would like to use Pathika, who's a nomadic parra, you are welcome to message me with your ideas and I might let you use her! ;)
