Chrysaora Basilisks #247 | Orphan Rescue Event

Postby noreptiles_ » Mon Jul 13, 2015 12:10 pm

General Info
Chrysaora Basilisk are the prevalent equine creatures that inhabit the world Lucent. They roam by the hundreds, using their unique hooves to score the uneven rock and track down their most vital source of nourishment; evil. The relationship between Chrysaora and humans is a complex one. Chrysaora vocalize like horses, but are also thought to have a syrinx much like birds do and have been recorded displaying a variety of sharp, avian sounds. Their eyes layer over with a dark, murky black until their normal eye color pierces through in a great ball of electric light, radiating toward their victim's open eyes and paralyzing them. The Glare is able to stop both human and creature, and after a few days, unique to other forms of basilisk, the paralyzed being transforms into a sea nettle.

A human trapper had stolen many chrysaora foals and was selling them in a underground black market. A organization of people stopped him and rescued the foals, and are now trying to adopt them out. Each of the foals needs an experienced owner to love and raise them. We're counting on you, the members of the chry community, to give these babes a second chance at life.

First Encounter

I woke up and wiped my eyes, glancing around my messy room sleepily. I was already sweating and it wasn't even 10 AM yet; the summer heat definitely wasn't going to calm down anytime soon. I didn't want to get out of bed, but it was a pretty important day, which would be much better than sleep. Today I was going to, hopefully, adopt an orphan Chry. An anonymous organization had recently rescued a bunch of orphan foals, and I had been contacted through one of the members. They told me that I was chosen to be fit to adopt and own one, and they provided me with an address once I had accepted the invitation. I was excited but nervous, and felt pretty honored to have the opportunity.

I stretched and climbed out of bed, throwing on a shirt and jeans, gulped down some cereal quickly and headed off to the address. It was a struggle finding the place; they did keep it well hidden. It was a large wooden building, pretty much in the middle of a field surrounded by forest. There was another building in the distance, probably another stable.

I parked in what looked like a parking spot, more or less, and got out, to be immediately greeted by a short, freckle-faced girl with brown hair up in a ponytail, and an older man with a scruffy beard and glasses. He shook my hand and asked me to show him my invitation. I pulled it out and handed it to him. While he examined it, I could hear Chrys in the distance, their loud neighing and screeching combined.

The man stuck my invitation in his pocket and smiled. "We're glad to have you. Sadly, many people denied our invitations. We need these Chrys to go to good, caring homes. I'm sure you'll be one of them if you decide to adopt one."

I nodded and gulped. Raising a Chry by myself was going to be tough, but I was ready for the challenge and responsibility. I followed him to one of the buildings. Inside were baby Chrys scattered around in a huge pen. They were a bit older, walking around and playing, chasing each other. There was another area with eggs.

"So.. Just look around and see if anything catches your eye." The man walked away and stood in a corner with the freckle girl.

One of them had already caught my attention. A young colt, with a fierce-looking red and purple mane and tail. He looked to be a few days hatched, still small but he was walking a bit. He glared at the other Chrys and nipped at them when they walked by.

I walked around the pen towards the colt. He watched me silently, unblinking. When I got near him, I held out my hand steadily. He flinched and bit it. I yanked my hand away, it didn't hurt but it surprised me, and I started to laugh.

I glanced at the man and he smiled and began to walk towards me. I looked back down at the colt, and I knew he was the one I wanted to raise.

Gaining Trust

I drove home, shaking with excitement. Even though I wasn't able to see him, I constantly peeked at the rearview mirror, glancing at the trailer, thinking of my new colt, how it was going to be like in the future. He seemed wild, unforgiving towards the world, and I was ready to earn his trust, however long it should take. I wasn't going to force it on him or get frustrated; I needed to be as patient as possible.

Parking in my driveway, I sat still for a moment, mentally preparing myself, and hopped out of the truck.
I could hear him in the trailer, shuffling around and making quiet screeching noises. I opened the door, rope in hand. "Hey, buddy. Welcome home." I kept my voice soft and low, keeping eye contact with his dark pupils. He didn't blink, didn't move, and it seemed like he didn't breathe. I slightly moved to the right, and his eyes followed, not letting me leave his sight. "You're safe little guy." I reached in my pocket and slowly pulled out a few berries, holding them a few feet away from the colt. His nostrils twitched, picking up the sweet scent. He began moving forward, while still keeping eye contact with me. I set the berries down in front of him. He stood up shakily, wobbling the trailer. He took timid steps towards me, and suddenly took off, leaping out of the trailer; luckily I jumped out of the way just in time. He ran around the field, with much more energy than I thought he had. I smiled, watching the little colt jump around, probably for the first time. He fell a couple of times, and he was super unbalanced, but he managed to get back up and prance around. He looked off in the distance, noticing my other chrys, as they were watching him curiously. He glanced back at me, like he somehow knew they were mine, and I was the good guy. He began to make his way towards me, keeping eye contact again. I stood still, until he finally stood right in front of me, staring. I knew that this meant he trusted me, and my heart nearly leaped out of my chest.
