Not that anyone really cares, but I'm semi-inactive at the moment. Life kind of got in the way of things and I'm usually on once or twice a month to check messages and adopt monthlies. I'll be back as soon as life allows. c:

Arktos & Burney's Relationship: Arktos & Burney need each other. They are close as can be, practically inseparable. Ever since they met, the two were best friends. There was an instant attraction. Never is there one without the other. Arktos and Burney share an enlarged stall with a divider on the off chance it would be needed and a door with outdoor access to their own special pasture. The two sleep together, curled up. Even though Burney is typically known as a ferocious predator, he has a mellow disposition and Arktos has accepted the other creature. Although Burney has hardly ever known life without Arktos, Arktos was always missing something before Burney came along, and now he has found it.
Other Relationships: Arktos & Timber - Arktos is great buddies with Timber. Before Burney, Timber was the closest thing Arktos had to a best friend of sorts. Now, they've grown apart some, but the two still maintain a friendship.
Arktos & Hallie - Hallie and Arktos are almost enemies. There's never been a love or spark between them, never a friendly time. Since they met, they've just been naturally repelled by one another and of the enemy kind. Arktos and Hallie stay away from interacting and typically get into scuffles when they do have contact.
Arktos & Ophelia - Arktos is greatly intimidated by Ophelia. She is an interesting character. The pair have grown to mutually respect one another, but Arktos prefers to steer clear of the mare. Lucky for Arktos, Ophelia seems to dislike Burney quite a bit and never comes very close.
Arktos & Krypton - Krypton is not unlike what Timber is to Arktos. In fact, the three are all buddies. Although Krypton and Arktos have never been extremely close, Arktos considers Krypton a friend of his.
History: Arktos has been rather lucky. They lived in a small barn until they were one. This particular place was generally lovely, but money was tight. But the horses were always well-fed. Finally, it became to much for the owners. Arktos and 6 other horses were auctioned off and the stables were sold. Arktos ended up at their current home, where they are quite happy. The young horse settled in very well. They would not meet Burney for another 3 years.
- - -
After 3 uneventful years spent well-cared for and training, things changed. Arktos was perfectly happy with their life - they had friends to interact with and a comfortable home. However, they had felt an odd disconnect recently. Like they needed something else. Late one evening, Arktos was frantically brought in from the field. Beside their stall was something new - a thickly walled area that they could not see in. But they could smell something.
The smell unnerved them the rest of the night. They heard movement from within the enclosure, snuffling and grunting and little yelps. Their owner slept just outside the walls, right near Arktos. That morning, there were more people, peeking into the area and moving around. Arktos was confused. Later in the day, there was yelling and quick movements, some upset. Something was wrong with the creature in the enclosure. Some insisted it was 'lonely.'
It was a while until Arktos actually saw the animal. In fact, the encounter was completely by accident. An unfamiliar man came over and spoke with Arktos' owner for a while, then opened up the cage and interacted with the animal inside. Arktos was in crossties, being saddled. Carelessly, the man left the door open just long enough for a small brown ball of fur to run out. Yelling ensued, but the animal did not run long. It stopped right in front of Arktos, staring. At first, surprised, the tolter pulled back violently and snapped their halter. But they didn't run either. After the initial shock, Arktos took a step forward, towards the brown creature. Their owner and the man halted, watching.
They sniffed the animal, cautiously, and in turn the brown ball of fur did the same. It inched closer, near Arktos' leg. Eventually, it had snuggly placed itself against the tolter's legs. Arktos slowly lowered their head, gently nudging the animal's soft brown body and then quietly placing their head atop it's head. Instantly, the two were bonded. Arktos could feel it. The creature could too.
In the days to come, Arktos learned the brown animal was a bear, who was male, and who was named Burney. The two were allowed carefully supervised time to interact, little by little. After about a week, the bear's thick divider was replaced by a fence with wire, so that he could see Arktos. Soon, Arktos and Burney were almost always playing together in a small pasture that was well-fenced. Lots of people came through to see the odd pair. After an even longer time, something new was tried. The divider was completely removed, the thick walls replaced with similar fencing. There was a door to an outside area. Arktos and Burney were perfectly happy, immediately taking to the idea.
At one point, there was an argument between the owner and an official-looking character over the two. Some men attempted to take Burney away. The young bear cried and yelped, struggling in their grasp. Arktos destroyed a fence and nearly attacked the men, and the tolter rarely ever became vicious like that. They then herded Burney back to the stall, where Arktos placed him in a corner and guarded him closely, snapping at those who came near. It was decided it was better for Burney to stay at the barn. And it's been that way for the past year.

Poem: A short poem about Friendship - just because.
by Henry Van Dyke
What is Friendship? Something deep
That the heart can spend and keep:
Wealth that greatens while we give,
Praise that heartens us to live.
