Carlos' goggles are for his Chemistry experiments, as is the rag tied around his leg. The goggles are to protect his eyes and the rag is to clean up any spillages he might cause due to his clumsy nature.

Nik used to have normal glasses, but after loosing them every time he left the house, he decided to just get goggles and save himself the trouble. The rag is there because he does cloth dying and uses it to test out the colors before he finally dyes the cloths.
