Dusk snorted excitedly as she pranced beside the human leading her out to pasture, the days had gotten longer and hotter lately. Dusk knew this was the first day of summer, she didn't know the way humans do by calendars but she knew instinctually, like how birds know when to fly south for winter. The mare's movements were smooth and graceful, her ears pricked forward and her eyes focused out towards the large field of grass that she and other mares got to enjoy during the hottest season. The human who was leading her laughed at Dusk's eagerness to be out in the sunny field, the mare could be seen as lazy when it comes to getting her to move out of anything faster than a trot under saddle.
The sound of the lead rope softly clicking as Dusk was free to move off on her own. The mare wasted no time in standing around, her hooves beat a rhythm as she took off into a fast canter, she covered the ground with speed but a smooth beauty as well. The sun was barely up so far today but Dusk was already ready to work herself into a lather and let out a happy whinny before tossing her head a moment and continuing her canter. The mare switched into a gallop as she got farther out into the pasture, there were a few other mares already out in the pasture, calmly grazing or grooming each other, but Dusk was feeling her age at 4 years old and wasn't yet ready to calm down. The mare left them all behind as she galloped off, just happy to run.
The sun got higher in the sky and Dusk had worked herself into a moderate lather around her armpit areas. It was the hottest part of the day and Dusk had calmed down to a trot for this part of the day, she let out a contented yawn while she stepped into a shallow stream. The cool water was best enjoyed at this time of day she found out in previous years of summer fun, she laid down in the shin deep water, nosed the water gently before dipping her muzzle in and attempting to splash water over her back. Another yawn escaped Dusk's mouth as she blinked sleepily as her eyes remained half-closed and she dozed lightly.
When the sun started dipping towards the western horizon, Dusk was grazing in the shade and enjoying the feel of a warm summer breeze that would come on around nightfall. Dusk lifted her head into the breeze and smelled deeply of the scents that were carried on the summer breeze before smiling and continuing her grazing. She was ready to enjoy the other summer days just the way she did today on the first.

Wind shook the buds on the trees, their brilliantly contrasted colors waking the slumbering senses. The chill that kept the bones of young animals cold and heavy, now melted in shocks of bright color and noise. Nefertiti hadn't the slightest idea that the world would turn away from the sun in six short months, leaving everything cold and untouched by warmth. The sunlight dappled grass below the trees offered comfort from the heat of the sun, and everything seemed to drip with sweat, she couldn't imagine it changing. It was the smell of life, and rebirth, and warmth. The bite of death lingered away from the happiness, waiting for the turn of the season, and Nefertiti could not be bothered.

summer reaction; Sprint was a rescued from a horrible situation. Her previous owner had not been able to take care of her because she was so wild so they locked her up in their garage and eventually forgot about her. When they locked her in there, it had been snowing very heavily and was very cold outside. Sprint was born in fall so she has never felt warmth, only snow and the cold. In the summer a couple went on a walk. They walked past the house and heard whining and kicking. They called 911 and the police managed to rescue her and brought her into a trailer and to the vet. She had not yet seen outside since her previous owners put her in their garage but when they got to the vet that changed. They brought her inside and gave her food, made sure she was healthy and finished her check-up. They brought her outside to a pen so she could run around and eat some grass. When she got outside she freaked out and started galloping, bucking, and jumping everywhere. She loved summer! She kept running and having fun for another hour until she got tired. She got her name, Summer Sprint, because she just kept sprinting around and enjoying herself.

summer reaction; Winter seemed to be a dark lifeless season. Everything dragged on and on. The cold wind was heartless and chilled to the bone. But as seasons change the sky seemed to slowly show color and so did the rest of the world. But spring was still cold and chilly feeling. It was summer when life felt at real. B had spent most of her time kept up in the stall with her warm blanket. But the morning felt different. The air seemed warmer even before the sun began to rise. As the sun began to rise it seemed that its rays spoke new color into the world. B’s hooves itched to get out of her stall. She kicked at the door impatiently. The morning chores seemed to drag on as the stable hand fed the horses. Finally! One of the stable hands made their way towards B’s stall with her halter in hand. The door opened, halter on, they walked through the barn, down the path, to the gate, halter off again. Like a rocket B took off through the pasture, wind in her mane. Life was warm and welcoming. B took it in with a kick and a crowhop. She came to a stop next to the creek under a tree. Around midday though this love for the warmth of summer changed, the sun baked down and made life feel almost unbearable. The thought of even moving made B miserable. Where she was dying to get out of her stall she was now begging to go back and feeling the fan blow through her mane. She couldn’t even barley make her way to the water’s edge.

gazed around the meadow, brimming with rich colors. The thick scent of pollen tickled her nostrils, as the filly
let out an abrupt snort. Steering away from the buttercups, the filly chewed, contempt on the tall, fresh grass.
A gentle breeze whispered through the tall grass. As a bird glided overhead, the mare twitched her ears and looked
to the sky. Summer was here.
