ShimmerWhat she does:Moderation and neutrality are core aspects of Shadrey's personality, and true to form her first reaction when meeting a strange equid is usually to stand still and observe. She rarely makes the first move, though she remains cordial and is not adverse to being approached. If the new equid proves territorial she will generally back down unless he/she is threatening one of her friends or family; if the other equid is friendly however she is quite open to making conversation and finding out more too.
So it was when she first met Roreinstein of Windrenhill. It had been a sudden meeting - Shadrey had gone to the river for a drink and Roreinstein, just further up the same bank waiting for his herd, had been a little surprised by her abrupt appearance. They saw each other in almost the same moment; each stood tersely, a little aloof, examining the other equid curiously. A minute passed - Shadrey noted the strange stallion seemed to be in his prime, a smaller creature than her and therefore less of a threat if he should decide to accost her. He showed no signs of aggression however - rather he appeared curious, friendly and warm in his regard. Roreinstein hailed her just then.
"A good day to you, strange mare! What do you out here on this fine morning?"
Shadrey relaxed on realising the stallion meant her no ill, and with her head held high she called back over the river's chatter, "Good day to you too. I came for a drink."
"The same for me," was the reply, as the stallion began to walk towards her, "I'm Roreinstein, from Windrenhill. My herd's just up over yonder
(he threw up his head to indicate where they were), they'll be here soon. Is your herd coming too?"
"No I'm afraid," she replied, standing her ground as she distended her nostrils to catch his scent as well: it was raw and unfamiliar to her. No she certainly had not met this stallion before. She flicked her tail to indicate the top of the bank behind her, "They're over the rise and moving on soon. I merely came to snatch a drink."
She flicked a ear back (both had been pricked at Roreinstein), and dipped her head slightly, "I'm Shadrey. A pleasure to meet you Roreinstein."
