Maybel lives in a small town that is often inundated with snow and cold weather. Having grown up in a place that never had snow, this town is an absolute wonder to her.
In the side of a hill, there is very modest three room house with low ceilings and dark timber furnishings. Maybel immediately fell in love with the place and its character when she saw it, and went above and beyond to acquire it. Having been traveling for some time looking the perfect place to settle down after moving out of the family home, she believed she had found the place for her.
In part it reminds Maybel of herself, with its dark, shiny doorways and benches, and intricate detailing, but she also loves the homely feeling it gives her. Living alone, with her friends a half-day walk away, Maybel finds comfort in the warm character of the house and the way it makes her feel less alone when she's there.

Personality:

Maybel's stubborn streak shines through in her personality often, but for her close friends it is easy to see that this confidence is sometimes forced. Being one to hold herself in high regard when under pressure, she doesn't take well to being ordered or criticized, even by her best friends or elders. She will regard anything that tarnishes her reputation as untrue and unjust, and will ignore facts that prove her wrong, though they eat away at her when she's alone. Being so defiant sometimes pushes other people away from her, even if it's fake, but if her pride is on the line, she would do anything to defend it.

While appearing confident and strong-willed for the most part, Maybel can sometimes be a total worry-wart. In times of discomfort, her tough exterior gives way to a sensitive and anxious mindset, and worries flood her thoughts. As one who often hides behind a wall of invincibility, Maybel is very easily broken down when she's alone. She worries that people actually don't like her, and she often has lists of regrets that torture her every day and remind her that decisions have consequences. There are few things that bring her out of this condition, including being with her friends and having a good long sleep.

Her confidence may sometimes be a lie, but Maybel's willfulness is not fake. Once she has her mind set on something, she will do her absolute best and try her hardest to follow through with it. She grudgingly does things she she must do, but she always finishes her duties. When the time comes to make decisions, Maybel will choose something and stick with it, regardless of the consequences.

As her wilful side suggests, once Maybel finds she likes something, she will be fanatically devoted to it forever. She is always eager to watch her favourite shows and movies many times over, and she loves to support "the best" sports teams and characters and will defend their integrity furiously.

Of both meanings of the word, Maybel is guilty. Her fanatical enthusiasm for things is insatiable once started, but her stomach is also bottomless. She eats a fair bit at each meal, and sometimes has extra melas in between the main three to satisfy her hunger for good food. She will devour almost anything edible, especially if it's hot and hearty, but she has a dislike for chickpeas and kidney beans (she considers it a good thing she doesn't come across them often).

In her best mood and when not being criticised, Maybel is one of the happiest Pseudos around. Her smile brightens anyone's day and her laughter is infectious. After a good meal, she is very agreeable and amiable and doesn't mind when her friends joke about torturing her with chickpeas or are mocking her favourite characters.

Relationships:

Casimir:
Maybel's relationship with Casimir can only be described as tumultuous. Their clashing personalities make for wild arguments and mood swings as violent as a stormy sea. In a way, they appear to be similar - they both are forthcoming and matter-of-fact, not tending to sugar-coat their words - but this similarity does not do their relationship well, as neither of them can handle criticism in a mature way. When one told the other an observation about their feathers one day, the other pseudo took it as a stab at their appearance and blew up at the accusation, causing a riotous argument about dignity and pride in their appearance, and they both ended up losing their voices the next day. There are ups and downs in their relationship, but for the most part Casimir and Maybel have a cold respect for each other that is as easily shattered as a china doll.

June:
Quite the opposite of her relationship with Casimir, Maybel enjoys June's company. They are not far apart in age, though Maybel's extra few years sometimes have her taking the leader type role looking out for young June's antics and making sure he stays out of trouble. June's boyish charm and sweet ignorance always bring out the fun-loving and outrageous side of Maybel, and she thoroughly enjoys rough-housing and playing with June, as much as young adults can play.
Although Maybel does not see herself as a motherly figure, nor does she have the right qualities for her maternal instincts to show themselves as of yet, she always feels the need to check in on June every now and then. They don't live near each other, which makes it a bit of an effort to catch up, but she is often wondering how the scoundrel is faring in the cold weather or whether he ate breakfast that morning. It is these small thoughts that show her ability to love and show concern for others, something which her stoic frenemy Casimir has difficulty processing. Overall, her relationship with June is somewhat childish, but certainly a loving one.

Dreams:

Well, I had this weird dream once where I woke up and there were floating pebbles everywhere in my house, and when I- ...what? ... That's not what you meant by dreams? Oh, sorry you mean goals. Well, I'm not terribly ambitious, I'm afraid, but I suppose I do have one or two dreams.
I think I would really love to be known for something, and to not be just another pseudo out there; not famous like a celebrity, but, you know, something smaller, such as making beautiful ice sculptures or making people laugh by putting videos of me doing dares on the Internet.
Causing other people to be happy or feel happy for even just a few moments in their day is my ultimate goal, because I know I always admired and was inspired by the good people in my life, and I want to be that person in someone else's life. It's a little cliché I know, but it's what I truly want.

Fears:

Seriously? I don't have any fears. Fears are for the weak, and I pride myself on not having any weaknesses.
As a matter of fact, Maybel does have a fear, and it ties in with one of her dreams - she fears being forgotten. Part of her wants to be courageous and outgoing and to show herself to the world, hence the crazy Internet videos she wants to do, and it's also why she checks in on her friend June so often. By making sure he's doing okay, she can make sure he knows she's still around, though it may be a little silly of her to think that one of her best friends could forget her. This fear is more subconscious, and she tries not to let on that she is afraid of being forgotten.

Story:

Despite Maybel's love of winter weather and her frosty feather crest, she never saw snow with her own eyes until she moved to her own place. She grew up in a town that always had cold winters, but it was never cold enough for snow to fall, and so it always managed to avoid her throughout her childhood. Seeing snow in pictures and movies, she was always curious as to what exactly snowflakes felt like falling on her scales, and even whether she could really almost become invisible with her snowy camouflage as her mother said she could. When the time came for the first snow to arrive during winter at her new den in a new town, she was beside herself with wonderment and questions about snow, though she had to wait until one late night until her questions could be answered.
It was a Thursday, I think, when I first saw snow. It was late at night, and I'd fallen asleep reading at the table in front of the fire for long enough that it had died down to just flickering coals in the hearth. I remember vaguely I had drooled all over the table, which is a little embarrassing to admit, but I guess it's too late to take that back, hah hah. Apart from a few splutters from the coals, the night was absolutely still and silent, almost like the world outside had died - though gone to sleep is probably a nicer analogy - everyone in the town was definitely asleep at this time of night, I'll put it that way.
Anyway, I got up and went to the window to gaze out at the moon which was due to be full that night, and what I saw blew my mind - it was snow. And not just a little bit; a full-on blanket of smooth white covered everything in sight. It was so sleek and pure that at the time I didn't think I'd seen anything as beautiful in my short life. I hurried outside with nary a thought to the chill that would await, but I was totally oblivious to the cold even when I plowed straight into a bank of snow right outside my door. The feeling of breaking the perfect monotonous snow cover was glorious, and I knew then that I had found something I absolutely loved, almost as much as my family. I spent a long time just taking in the image of snow on all the buildings and trees in town, and I managed to stay out long enough for soft snowflakes to begin falling again, which was magnificent beyond what my sleep-depraved brain could handle.
Looking back, I would've looked like a looney to anyone watching, just goggling at the strange white flakes bearing down on me like a million tiny stars falling from the sky on the light of the moon. But I will never forget the moment I first saw snow.
