Hello, I'm Smolder. However, you may call me Ash -║

I'm Kaja Sannadóttir, but everyone knows me as Lynx. I am a novelist, traveler, and nature enthusiast. I journey around the world for inspiration for my writings. From the mountains to the seas, from one end of the world to the other; I've been everywhere.

One of the questions I've been asked frequently is this; where is your favorite place to explore? Why?
It's quite frankly impossible to choose a favorite. However, I would have to say Africa. It is drastically different than my homeland in Iceland, and I love the colors. The golden and brown hues are absolutely beautiful. The way the light flows on these colors is something of absolute awe. Something that not even the world's greatest poets could even begin to describe. An amazing kind of magic.
Another thing I love about Africa is the villages. Culture is a very important thing in this world, even if not many realize it. I try to capture this in my works. The music. The clothing. The language. I immerse myself, taking time to slow down and see everything around me. Visiting the villages some days, learning more about the African cultures and way of life, and taking a look at the wilder side other days. It's all so, so amazing.
I try not to stress about work too much while visiting, but the fascinated child in me wants to capture every detail about these amazing places. The people of these villages are wonderful, too. If I didn't love my own homeland so much, I'd come live here, too! No matter how many days I spend here, it's always so saddening when I must leave. But I will return, as I always do, to once again explore this amazing place.

We landed at the airport on June 23rd, 2014 for my third trip to Africa. We skipped one year; spent the summer of 2013 in China. That was amazing in itself, but all in all, I was looking forward to coming here again. Maybe we'd come across Dwala the cheetah, a friend I made two years ago, and see her new twin cubs. Maybe I'd get to help work, or simply sit and listen to the African style of music.
However, when I was offered the opportunity to go on a safari through the grasslands, I was happy to accept. The wait was a few hours, but it wasn't long before all of us were ready to go. There were five of us total; mostly photographers.
I had left my notebook behind, so I wouldn't pressure myself trying to jot down everything I saw. I wanted to enjoy the safari, and enjoy the sights. In any case, I was sure that the photographers would share all of their photos with me later on. But I kept narrating to myself in my head, subconciously making mental notes, which I knew I would remember whether I meant to or not. Sort of ruined the point of leaving my notebook behind, but at least I wouldn't have to do any writing
We did get to see many things on our safari. The herds were about, seeming to enjoy the soft, cool breeze. It was a rarer occurence, usually the air was still, or the winds were warm. The big savannah cats were all dozing, so though we did get a glimpse of a lazy leopard lying in a tree, we didn't see many others. A pack of lycaons running through the grass late in the journey made up for the lack of activity, as the majestic animals traveled as one over the open grasses.
The trip as a whole, spanning over one month, was incredible, as usual. Time seemed to fly, and the month was gone before I knew it.
Despite being here three times, I would most certainly visit again.
