Magic has entered Willowbank....




No one knows how they got here, but legend says it is the offspring of the Depths and Hope. Its powers are reduced to control over the brightness of the light around it's horn. Mood usually affects that.

It has a vial of cloud tucked securely into it's tail...and the horn seems...cracked.

This creature can breed, but only once.

The first thing I remember is opening my eyes. In front of me were two ponies, one laying on the yellow hay I was on, one standing. The one laying on the ground was a light, cremello pony with a long mane and a smile that was calming and hopeful. Out of instinct I immediately knew it was my mother, a mare. The one standing, was a dark black stallion, who had a long, silver mane and a dark black unicorn horn. I figured he must be my dad. As I looked between the two, they began to speak in a tongue I wouldn’t know until I was older.
“Looks like you have a colt, Depths,” my mother said, “Do you think that that stub on his forehead is a horn? He must have gotten it from you.”.
“It does look like he has a horn. What do you think we should name him, Hope?” He replied back, his silver mane shimmering. My mother thought for a moment, watching me attempt to stand up.
“Magical Darkness.” she announced finally, looking to Depths for approval.
“Perfect.” He replied and bowed gracefully to us to before trotting out of the stable.

It had been two weeks since I was born, and I was already galloping quickly with my mother. The stub on my head had finally began to peek out of my short, black mane as a horn. My father said it was a good time for me to learn how my horn worked, so he had begun teaching me the basics of magic, necessary spells for protection and combat.
One day however, while we were studying birds, I watched how free they were compared to me, how they got to fly wherever they wanted, but I had to stay here. Suddenly I realized that my horn was glowing brighter than usual, and I began to feel a pain in my back. Soon enough, I had wings growing out of my back. I was finally free. I tested my wings a bit, trying to get myself at least a little bit in the air. I couldn’t.
Finally exhausted, I trotted back to my stable. There was the most beautiful gray and white filly standing in front of my stall, with a face on that clearly said that she was curious of me. I trotted up to her.
“What are you doing in front of my stall?” I asked, curious as to why she seemed to be studying my wings.
“I saw your wings grow after you had seen the birds, and I was wondering how you did it.” she replied, her black mane waving in the wind.
“I don’t know how I did it, I just did it when I wished I was like a bird.” I answered, admiring her beauty. “Do you wanna see if I can fly?”
“Yes!!” she replied, and smiled. We galloped out of the stall, I stretched my wings and opened them to catch air sometimes to glide across the ground. Finally, we stopped, and she looked at me with pure interest.
“Okay.” she said, and quickly tossed her mane a bit before continuing, “Now open your wings completely and flap up and down.” I did as I was told, and I began to lift off the ground. Soon I had flown about a foot into the air and hovered there. “Good.” she said, “Now slowly lower yourself to the ground. It will probably take some time before you can take off and land well.”
“You wanna do this more often?” I asked as I landed, feeling the need to have her near me all the time.
“Sure. And by the way, my name is Heavenly Grace.” she replied with a smile and then trotted off.

It had been a year since I had been born, and I was able to fly much better than before. I trotted up to my now almost-mate Grace, and just as I was about to speak, she interrupted me.
“I am leaving.” she sighed, sadness and love twinkling in her eyes, “And I have a gift for you. Here.” She handed me a small vial labeled “cloud” on it, “It’s not real cloud, but I think it is close enough.” She smiled, and sighed again.
“I have a gift for you then too.” I replied, and backed up a bit before unfurling my large 32 foot wings and taking off into the clouds, magically putting some real cloud into a similar vile to the one she gave me. I landed and gave it to her.
“It’s beautiful.” she said, admiring the floating, fluffy, white contents inside. “Goodbye.” she whispered to me sadly and began to cry as she trotted away from me, whispering one thing, “Love you…”

I had enough of being without Grace by the time almost a year had passed. I had to fly. I took off, her vial of cloud dangling from my tail as I flew away from the memories, away from my home. I cried, all the tears dropping like rain from my cheeks as I traveled. Finally, I landed, far from home in a place full of ponies like me. They were grazing in a field together, happily. I landed and decided to stay there for the night before going home.
As I trotted into their stables, I thought I saw many familiar ponies, but I wasn’t sure so I kept trotting, looking for a place to rest.
“Looking for somewhere to sleep?” a voice behind me asked. I whirled around to find the most beautiful gray and white filly standing in front of me.
“Yes I am.” I replied, looking down at her necklace, “Where did you get that?”.
“I got the necklace from an old friend I left a long time ago. Why do you ask?”
“Because I have the original one.”, I replied, holding up the vial, “Grace.”

(Hopefully this does not count word-wise but the story above is 998 words total! The story about the horn breaking is for another day...)
