Equid's Name: Finvarra
Age: 9 years
Height: 12.3hh
Sex: Stallion
Personality: "Hark, ye traveler, come close and listen well, for this tale, be it myth or be it truth, brings about the story of one mysterious entity by the name of... Finvarra. With a coat of burnt umber and rich mahogany, and two eyes of dewy moss, he shares his name, among other attributes, with the High King of the Daoine Sidhe in Irish folklore; he who ensures plentiful harvests, significant wealth, and strong horses, also, lest we forget, he who is said to be King of the Dead. Though this mythological figure is a generally benevolent one, you may soon find that Finvarra is considerably more complex than one term can wholly distinguish.
"Perhaps, if I were to describe this creature in detail, this Finvarra, I might start by recounting his few neutral characteristics, before submerging into the black and white or good and bad...
Detailed first as a very inconsistent Equid, the vagaries of Finvarra's behavior are constantly fluctuating with his very fickle mood. This mood changing is entirely discrepant, and in response, his actions also prove to be full of contrast and varying levels of inconstancy. Such contradictions may be cause of controversy over Finvarra's overall identity. Does he hold a high disposition, or low? What about morals? Does he follow any sort of ethical code or etiquette? The answer to these questions is both yes and no; Finvarra is neither overall respectable, nor overall corrupt. Wouldn't it be exhausting to be one or the other? Then again, a creature such as himself may just be one certain exception...
"Not generally the type to get too easily riled, Finvarra tends to lean more towards passive detachment from many a situation he may be part of. This detachment is not the long-worn result of some childhood tragedy, nor some psychological disorder of any kind, but simply his own frequently disinterested position. Of course, there may be instances where Finvarra's fluctuating moods come into play, inspiring in him a changed mindset for a given situation, where he may react differently due to personal interest. So erratic can his behavior be that it ofttimes provokes interpretations of vagueness or mysteriousness. These odd delineations are not always so foolishly far from the truth. His uninterest, (or sudden interest, given each situation), often feigns a passive mysteriousness; cloaking him as a sort of lingering presence who often observes without much intervention. This air of mystery, along with his aloof vagueness, often portrays Finvarra in a dark, and ofttimes grim perspective.
And yet, Finvarra himself is prone to being very grim. Oh, did I say grim? Well, I meant Grimm, of course! As in, fairytales, mythological creatures, and superstitions. If Finvarra could escape it, he would, I assure you – but there is no escaping a superstitious mindset once committed. A lack of reassurance often leads Finvarra down a dizzying spiral, sometimes going as far as to cause eccentric and outlandish behaviors. He carries with him an odd, almost outside view of the world, incorporating a long-term pattern of abnormal thoughts, actions, and feelings. Although his superstitions lead him astray time and again, they are not always the cause for unease. Finvarra's life is recurrently interwoven with many daily issues, begetting a habitual self-isolation, as he much prefers a realm of fiction, dreams, and impossibility over that of reality. Because of his repeated adventures into isolation, Fivarra's sense of time and reality has become slightly distorted over an indefinite period, giving him an other-worldly disposition; just one more attribute to incorporate into his overall mystery!
"Among the company of other Equids, Finvarra voices himself through expression of somatic language, using the expanse of his figure to portray his thoughts and feelings. Communication skills come easy to him... he's a charmer, yes – but beware, for he is said to be a deceitful liar, as well. While on the matter of some darker aspects of Finvarra's personality, such as lies and deception, perhaps we can delve deeper into these negatives that are the drive behind many of Finvarra's actions. This uncertainty-inducing stallion is perhaps one of the most fiendish that you may ever come across. If one was to describe him in a single word, they may be wise to choose a term such as Machiavellian. And what a sly creature is he, not to be likened to a fox, no, but something much more silently haunting, such as a theory that lingers in the minds of conspirators, driving them to a slow insanity by their own device. His wickedness is something that he keeps well hidden by a deceptively-polite attitude. Such an attitude is ordinarily quite disconcerting when combined with the daunting thoughts that lay concealed behind his misleadingly charismatic eyes. He uses this feigned and practiced politeness not as a mechanism for friendly interaction, but instead for the cunning use of manipulating others around him. He is generally a deceptive creature, deviously using others to his heart's content. Casual dishonesty is something that Finvarra commonly uses as a shield of sorts, that with which he may hide many things, such as truth and secrets. While he is not completely amoral, Finvarra can be subtly ruthless, and occasionally borderlines on conscienceless. Additionally, he tends to lean towards unpleasant behaviors, frequently seeming to lack guilt or shame.
"Though usually levelheaded, as one must be to control such elaborate schemes of deception, Finvarra is prone, as anyone could be, to terrible bouts of irrationality. His actions are often quite unpredictable, such as his possessiveness and his ease to jealousy and envy. As one who is commonly accused of superficial behaviors, such as self-indulgence, overconfidence, and vanity, Finvarra stands to be an extremely finicky creature, one of which should not be toyed with, for fear of the repercussions that may follow after. Yes, undoubtedly a troublesome and disputatious creature, Finvarra is prone to impulsive behaviors. But when wronged, he is not always quick to seek vengeance on those who have ill-treated him. No, his reprisal is more of a slow crawl; a seething, slithering creature that lurks in wait, gaining anticipation with each moment passed by. Oh yes, Finvarra can hold resentment, and what a hot, boiling, dangerous thing that resentment can be...
"Finvarra's actions and conduct are certainly questionable most of the time, and because of this, they often lead to him being misunderstood, his traits frequently mistaken as those of an evildoer. And although these many negative traits pertain to Finvarra, and paint him as a ne'er-do-well, there are those that are positive, as well, lending him some much-needed redeeming qualities. Finvarra, though devious and Machiavellian as he may be, is surprisingly not a predominantly benevolent figure. His contradictory behavior comes into play often when alternating between moods, impacting his actions by substantial amounts. For instance, it is possible for him to be virtuous, kind, and generous even without the hindrance of deception, and it happens more than one might think! Finvarra presents himself well, with a vibrant self-confidence that gravitates rather than repels. He is generally a peaceful creature, with a confident and independently charming dynamic. When Finvarra is in a positive mood, that outlook directly effects his personality and the others around him.
Finvarra is remarkably versatile, adapting well to any given situation. He is able to patiently lend himself in a calm and helpful manner when needed, while continuing to tactfully turn a situation to be advantageous to him, personally. To do this, he uses the convenience of resources such as his persuasive charisma, his perceptive nature, and his clever imagination. It is essential that he stay attentive to successfully manage to manipulate and deceive, while continuing to be pleasant and meaning no real harm. He is impressively observant of his surroundings, those of which he often gains inspiration from, adding impart to his gloriously fictional imagination. Of course, that imagination is then what comes full-circle to eventually produce that which is, in essence, Finvarra.
"In a final, short conclusion, this creature by the archaic name of Finvarra – though usually benevolent in nature – has proven before, (and is sure to do so again), that he is not always to be trusted wholeheartedly, if at all... For you should never trust a thief with your valuables, just as you should never trust a fiend with your happiness, for he is certain to search first for his own, and last for that of another. As such, one creature who is a fiend, dear traveler, should never be mistaken for a friend.
"I'll leave you with that on your mind, traveler, and be on my way. I believe I hear my name whispered in the breeze. Someone is calling for me, I'm sure. Can you not hear it? Perk your ears, listen close and... Ah, yes, there it is! You will hear my name; 'Finvarra'.
Farewell traveler, perhaps we'll meet again some day."
Poetic Piece: "King Finvarra"
A selfish creature is he
Who lives as the king of isolation
Sat upon a throne of guilt
With a crown of lies atop his brow
No people who hearken to his decree
A kingdom of damnation
Ruled within a castle built
By not oath, nor promise, but broken vow
A king he may no longer be
Overruled, overthrown, public deposition
Sword bathed in blood up to the hilt
Of war and battle he's had enow
