Matsuo may seem like he's nothing but seclusive and harsh, it's simply because he gets aggravated at the fact that he is stunningly terrible at social interaction. He's prone to thinking that others will make fun of him as many did when he was younger. Many times Matsuo will completely block out outside noises and focus on his own thoughts and his thoughts alone. Because of the bullying and mental exclusion, he has grown to dislike speaking with other beings.

Even though there is a dark and mean outer shell, Matsuo is truly a kind soul. His pelt represents him perfectly;
so much dark billowing around a conflicted cherry blossom tree, yet the happiness of the blossoms can shine through.
It takes work, but once you become Matsuo's trusted friend, he will have full devotion in you
and express everything that he's feeling, confiding in you to keep his secrets safe.

Maybe one day his tree will fully bloom, and the blossoms' light will dispel the dark skies.
But that all depends if you will be his true friend.
