Equid's Name: Ender
Behind the name: The names means very rare, and this girl being chimera (and only the second one ever) is certainly fit to that. As well the personality I see in her, which is influenced by having in essence two coat patterns, is certainly not a wide reaching common one either. At it's basics she's troubled and insecure, but masks those insecurities with false confidence. Like putting on a new face for the outside world. If only having two base coats could grant her a new, confident, personality. Oh but it has! Without a equid psych specialist to diagnose her, Ender is undiagnosed as having multiple personality disorder. In the flash of an eye you have the insecure falsetto Ender, and the next she's cynical and sly. Ruthless even, a danger to others. It makes forming strong bonds exceedingly difficult because she can't explain her condition.

Equid's Name: Puzzle
Behind the name: I chose the name Puzzle for obvious reasons, her mismatched patches and shapes remind me of large puzzle pieces! Of course that isn't the only reason why I choose her name,I feel like just saying she reminds me of a puzzle wouldn't make me challenge myself enough for this beautiful mare. I'd like to think of her as being a small piece of a puzzle, that puzzle being her own life. She collects all these little puzzle pieces (family, friends, tragic or wonderful events, etc.) and tries to see which pieces will fit in her puzzle, and which ones she will need to let go. Be it memories or friends. The one day that is bound to come, when her puzzle is all filled up, she will know she's lived a perfect life raised by her own choices.

What causes the chimera mutation? The chimera mutation is caused, in animals, by two feta liked eggs merging into one single organism with genetically different cells.

Equid's Name: Desert Rose
Behind the name: I choose this name because her coat color looks like it would come very much from the desert. Her coat could possibly hide her like a tiger's helps to hide it in the tall grass. (and it seemed more personal then looking up something that would truly I think not fit her as this name does.

What causes the chimera mutation? For Animal chimeras it is a product of merged genetics from multiple eggs normally two or more genetically distinct cells that originated from different zygotes (mosaic happens when the different cells have emerged from the same zygote). Chimeras are formed from atleast four parent cells caused when two eggs or early embryos fused together. Resulting in the two set of parents that gives them a mixture of the different genetic inheritance which could result in two different blood type or subtle variations. The cells keep their own characteristic and the resulting orgainism is a mixture of tissues.

Equid's Name: Eidolon
Behind the name: I actually adopted the name from The Infernal Devices: Clockwork Angel. It's used to describe what Tessa- is. Her ability to shift and transform herself. The word actually means a phantom or apparition. I adapted it, however, as a mixture of both. Her coat, to me at least, feels as though it's in the process of morphing or changing as Tessa does and the colors provide more of that phantomy feel of sorts. I'm also a sucker for Greek words haha.

What causes the chimera mutation? "Chimeras arise when a cell undergoes mutation. This mutation may be spontaneous or it may be induced by irradiation or treatment with chemical mutagens. If the cell which mutates is located near the crest of the apical dome, then all other cells which are produced by division from it will also be the mutated type. The result will be cells of different genotypes growing adjacent in a plant tissue, the definition of a chimera.
If the location of the cell at the time of mutation is in a region where little further cell division will occur, then the likelihood of detecting this mutation by visual inspection of the whole plant is low. Furthermore, if the mutation results in a genotype which is not very different morphologically from the rest of the plant, then the likelihood of identifying the plant as a chimera is also low. A mutation which results in colorless rather than green cells (variegation) is easily detectable, whereas a mutation which results in greater sugar accumulation in the cells would not be observed."

Behind the name: "In 1967's Indian Bollywood film Raat Aur Din, directed by Satyen Bose, the lead female role played by Nargis Dutt suffered from dual personality disorder. Nargis, for her role, was awarded with National Film Award for Best Actress." (Idea came from her two separate coats, so dual personality disorder came to mind. I was also thinking that she could have two different personalities, and it would make her even more unique!) Link

What causes the chimera mutation? "Chimeric genes can form through several different means. Many chimeric genes form through errors in DNA replication or DNA repair so that pieces of two different genes are inadvertently combined.[1] Chimeric genes can also form through retrotransposition where a retrotransposon accidentally copies the transcript of a gene and inserts it into the genome in a new location. Depending on where the new retrogene appears, it can recruit new exons to produce a chimeric gene. Finally, ectopic recombination, when there is an exchange between portions of the genome that are not actually related, can also produce chimeric genes. This process occurs often in human genomes, and abnormal chimeras formed by this process are known to cause color blindness." Credit

Equid's Name: Palladium
Behind the name: Palladium is a rare and lustrous silvery-white metal (reminded me of her coat somehow), it has a low melting point (she can get in a lather quite easy), and can help us in daily life in various shapes (she is a quite helpful WME)
Age: 9
Gender: Mare

What causes the chimera mutation? chimeras are the result of the fusing of fraternal twins in utero resulting in 2 sets of DNA in 1 horse. The dual DNA is not always manifested as brindle. Often, it results in random patches of color
