Name: Winter's Harsh Frost Bite {Frost Bite}
Gender: Mare
Height: 13.2 hh
Age: 5 years old
Story:'There's only so much I can do in a situation like this...' Frost Bite panicked uncontrollably while worrying thoughts raced around her head. She backed up slowly; hesitantly, as three large, well-built and quite malicious wolves goaded her ever-growing confidence, concealing her only way of escape. Cornering her towards the edge of the deadly drop, Frost Bite yelped in fear as her back hoof slipped on the weakened surface of worn cliff-face. Somewhat, the shock almost cost her life.The cliff itself towered above the treacherous black waters down below, reaching a colossal height of 600 ft exactly.
"Oh no." The young equid pinned her ears to the side, contemplating whether or not to fight. At the end of the day, her family had always managed to defend themselves against predators, but not like this... No, not against three ravenous wolves. The odds were stacked against her, almost so it was impossible to break free.
'How?' she toyed with the question in her mind, etching closer and closer to the near-impending doom staring her in the face.
Strangely enough, It was if these wolves had a sour grudge against her. Not only hunger burned in their eyes, but their teeth were on full display, clearly highlighting that they weren't going down without a fight. They approached Frost, snarling like bears; drooling over their inevitable meal soon to come-endless rows of razor-sharp daggers, glinting dangerously in the dim rays of sunlight.
"What do I do?" the amount of pressure gradually building up was enough to weigh down her body and crush her down. Gulping, she closed her eyes, fearing that her life would be over... If it meant that she slipped and fell to her death, or if these wolves became bored with anticipating the next move and pounced to strike. As Frost Bite reluctantly opened her dazzling hazel eyes, now sheened over with trepidation, her world switched into slow motion. Her reaction was quick, but not quick enough. The sudden startle set the wolves solid onto their target, and without another second to spare, the three took to the air with an almighty leap, tackling her ferociously to the ground. What seemed to be the leader of the pack, staring down at her, gave a crooked smile, before instructing the others to kill her with a low growl.
Pain ripped through Frost's body as the wolves attacked her. She screamed desperately, hoping that somebody might come to the rescue and bail her out of this embarrassing misery. She was too
young to die, anyway! And what if she lived and her parents had found out about the confrontation? Finding a sudden surge of energy, the spritely equid mare lashed out with a vicious kick, smashing one of the fellow wolves in the leg, snorting in a defensive yet aggressive manner, before the two remaining wolves turned every inch of their concentration onto Frost, snarling in an even more threatening tone. Frost Bite screamed again in sheer desperation. She felt her body becoming weaker and weaker by the second, and her condition would only get worse if nothing happened. She lay her head heavily on the ground as she breathed out, wincing as her injuries throbbed. It was hopeless. The wolves were close and even if somebody were to come, they wouldn't be able to save her in time.. Not like gave a damn.
'Better to die with pride, than to die a coward.' she concluded painfully, as a crystal clear tear slid down her pain-filled face...
However, just as her lights were about to switch out for what seemed to be permanently, a faint sound of thudding hoofbeats echoed gently in the mares' elegant ears, increasing volume the closer they became, before an almighty blood-red bay figure appeared on a large rock, silhouetted against the bright backdrop of the sky. He reared up, showing off his authority to the wolves, soaring through the air and using the wolves as his landing destination. The moment he landed, he freed himself from the heap of the two predators, keeping a wary eye on them.
"RUN! Get out of here!" he turned back quickly, ordering Frost assertively. He began nudging her away, remaining protectively infront of the silvery mare, his own body muscles rippling under his fine glossy blood-bay coat.
From what the mare could decipher, this so-called 'male' seemed to be of the same species. A little bigger perhaps-though not much bigger than 14.2. He was stocky, but not to the extend where it seemed out of proportion, then accompanied with long, graceful athletic legs and a trim muscular body to fit his regal upper-body composure. Ears just as long as hers pricked on end, listening to the snarling of the wolves, which seemed to urge him into a more urgent stance.
"I said NOW!" He growled, this time ramming the mare forwards and chasing after her a couple of steps to encourage her to leave the danger zone quicker.
Frost gasped in surprise, but nodded blankly, deciding better of it to argue-not daring to disobey what seemed to be her saviour's wishes. Almost instinctively as a trait to show her confidence, Frost gave a small rear, kicking back her legs powerfully and tearing off at a blind gallop through the woods, weaving through trees, using her agility and balancing skills, clearing many difficult obstacles. The sheer efforts of her workout caused white foamy sweat to build up on her neck and shoulders, but she continued pushing on, her hooves pounding the dry, pine-needled-covered earth in an even beat. Her strides were so long that they ate up the ground with ease, barely causing her to loose energy... But she didn't realize the fatigue creeping up on her... After what seemed to be hours of travelling, her body finally shut down, and she was sent to the ground as her legs buckled from underneath her in mid-stride of gallop. Motionless body tossed across the floor like a ragdoll, the mare was thrown against a tree, landing, defeated, with her injuries bleeding out crimson liquid like there was no tomorrow.
Nightfall soon came around, and Frost had still not woken up from collapsing... The blood-bay stallion limped back painfully through the forest as his leg consumed in deep bite marks from the wolves let him know of the pain. He had put up a good fight, successfully killing the two remaining wolves. However, on the not-so-lucky side of things, there was still one injured beast on the loose, which caused an unwanted chill to creep up his spine. It could be anywhere, even HERE... The more he thought about it, the more he gagged.
Walking on, more images flashed through the equid-stallions' head...
Who even was that mare? he thought, as the scenario from the fighting began circling his head again... She was being attacked by the wolves when he had been nearby grazing on the open meadows. He had only just heard the shrill screams when he began letting his curiosity take over him-yet he ran into a horrible danger zone. Well, we all know what would've happened if he hadn't of arrived in time... He shivered again, sighing as his eyes trailed over the dim lighting of the sheltered landscape. The tall pine-trees blocked out nearly all of the full-moons' glow, causing him to rely on his terrible eye-sight to guide him through these dark paths. As he squinted harder, a faint outline of a creature laying sprawled out near a tree-base could be seen... He perked up, trotting over to her with a small and hopeful smile etching across his face...
As he slowed to a halt, he breathed a sigh of relief, instantly recognizing the mare he had saved...
'Beautiful' he grinned, scanning the equid-mares' beautiful rich silver and snowy-white coat. She seemed not to move much while she slept, and that was when he recognized what had happened. She too, was badly injured, so he sighed and knelt down besides her, giving her a gentle nudge to attempt to wake her.
"Wake up." he chided gently...
No response. Trying again, this time with a more firmer approach, the stallion spoke aloud, in a louder-pitch.
"Wake up!"Frost Bite flinched, gasping and sitting bolt upright as her eyes flicked open. She gave a startled snort as she registered this strange mystery stallion infront of her, backing away slightly.
"Who are you? What do you want?" The equid stallion gave a sigh of relief, holding his chest as his heart drummed heavily against his ribcage.
"Easy... I'm not an enemy, I just saved you from a potentially dangerous situation-is all." He smiled weakly.
"Lets skip the gory details. We're both alive atleast. My name's Bracken." He gave a gentle nudge to the mare as a greeting.
"Sorry for not introducing myself earlier... What's your name?" Frost gave a dazed look at Bracken, her eyes betrayed emptiness, probably from lack of sleep.
"Uhh... M-my names' Frost Bite." She said, bluntly. Her eyes drooped, and she couldn't help but rest back on the base of the tree. Bracken smiled and flicked his tail.
"I agree, we better get some sleep, we have a long day tomorrow."{I'm sorry for the lack of quality, it's 3am and I'm dead haha
I'll edit it some more tomorrow! Thankyou very much for creating this wonderful equid! <3 }
