When I was born almost 200 years ago off the coast of Svalbard, my very traditional makoatl parents probably never imagined that their son would end up working as a geisha in Japan. But I always knew that there was something about their lifestyle that didn't suit me. Even as a toddler, I craved something different. Swimming around all day, praying on less intelligent animals, avoiding hunters... It was more surviving than living. I had been born into the wrong family. Perhaps swapped at birth with a baby that belonged to some other, more exciting and understanding makoatl parents. I found myself the fateful day my family took a vacation to Japan. I think initially it was the graceful, purposeful movements of those pale, dainty geisha in gorgeous kimono as they danced with their paper fans before an amazed audience. To a child who had known nothing but his father's encouragement of bloodshed, it seemed like a world of fantasy and whimsy. It wasn't just me, a sheltered kid, who was in awe. All eyes were on them - the men looked upon them with desire and the women looked upon them with admiration. They were beauty personified. I wanted to be just like them...
