What happened to the ear?:
Coal claims that he got into a fight with a wild wolf who bit him. But, all of the other horses know what really happened. He was really caught in a barn fire and a giant piece of wood fell. It had a rusty nail sticking out and got caught on his ear, ripping a chunk off. Ever since then he has avoided anything to do with fire or a chance of falling wood. And to make it worse, a year ago a new stallion came to the barn, he decided that he didnt like Coal and tried to bite his already scared over and tattered ear, it worked. That is why such a huge chunk is missing.
Reason for the name:
I chose the name Nero Cenere because it is Italian for Black Ash, the kind you get after a house or barn burns down. I called him this because of what happened to his ear and his coat color. His coat color also reminds me of the black ash after a fire finishes rampaging.
