The Music Starts, the lights dim just a bit. Upon the stage she walks slowly, elegant as a butterfly, graceful as a swan. Like a beautiful fragile cherry blossom, the light falls upon her face. A Geisha Jellybean, her face naturally painted Kabuki style, her kimono pink with red cherry blossom’s on it. With her she carries two fans with two painted flowers upon them; one rests under her eyes and the other waving softly behind her. “My Name is Yumemi, I come from a small village to the north, I have been a Geisha most of my life, and know not anything else, I dance in the sky everyday, others say my mind if lost to dreams. I do not know what else to do but dance, dancing keeps my sorrows away, my pain is gone when I dance because it makes me feel beautiful. I did not however start dancing till I was very young, this is my life, and how it is to be.” She sings her lines and bows gently, exiting stage left.

Smoke comes from the sides of the stage and through the audience a mist appears. A woman Jellybean dragon screams and runs down the side lane above the audience carrying a small basket. “My child.” Going to the main stage, “The bandits have burned the village… but I will not let them find you.” She looked around worriedly, and placed the small basket down behind a fake tree on the stage, crying can be heard from inside it, “Shh sweet child, close your eyes… mother will return soon.” She got up swiftly and tried to run, two Jellybeans dressed all in black jumped out like Ninjas making loud noises of action as they did, they grabbed the mother and she screams loudly as they drag her off stage.

The stage goes black for but a moment, the crying can be heard once more in the dark as the lights come up a man walks through the little aisle in the off to the side. He hums lightly singing a silly song as he does. He stops and hears the crying. “What be that noise?” He called out and walked to the fake tree and reached behind it picking the basket up, “What a cute little Baby… all alone? Poor thing, I will take you to be my own, what is your name little one?” He looked at the basket and noticed a tag “Yumemi? Sword of Dreams? What a little dream you will be.” He smiled and walked off stage swiftly. The lights dim and soon Yumemi walks back upon the stage, she dances gently. “I dance in the sky, the sky is my dream where I belong to be among the stars.” She sang softly, dancing for a little while then stops as her father enters the stage, “Yumemi.” He looked to her, she smiled and walked to him, “Yes Father?”. “Come with me my dearest… we must speak.” He looked at her sadly and off he walked. Yumemi followed behind him softly

Yumemi and her father walked back upon the middle of the stage. "Oh Father why do you look so sad? On such a lovely day too! Why today when I danced in the flowers it was like I was dancing on a sea of rainbows in the sky! It was so lovely." She moved happily about, "Yumemi, please listen, the Prince has threatened our land, and in order to keep it I must sell you to him." Her father looked down sadly, Yumemi's eyes widened sadly, "W-What?" She moved back almost falling, "My Yumemi! Please, I am sorry, but the Prince will not harm you, you will live a wealthy life" He moved to her hugging her then moved back, "My Dream Sword, remember how you love to dance? That will keep you safe from him, you can dance freely, you'll never know danger, your dreams will be real. Oh Yumemi, when you dance in your dreams your like a sword in battle. You will be safe my daughter... Please understand." He reached for her, but she cried and ran away. He turned and left the stage sadly.

The stage goes black for a moment and then a flash of light appeared, slowly the lights return. Yumemi looked down dancing half away across the stage and sat down sadly, “Father has sold me away again I have no home, no place… I am a Geisha and forever I will dance.” She sighs. Right after her speech a man walked onto the stage clad in Armour and wearing a samurai helmet, behind him two guards followed and a third was a flag carrier holding a royal flag. “I, Prince Ryuu, have come to claim my new wife, you must be her, the fairest Geisha in these lands.” The prince smirked, “Dance for me Geisha!” he snorted snobbishly, Yumemi return to the middle of the stage and danced softly, the Prince watched her with greed in his eyes as he watched her dance her delicate dance. The Prince walked to her and looked at her, “Come my new wife, you will return with me to castle and dance for my family.” he said picking her up and carrying her off the small lane through the audience.

Yumemi walked back upon the stage, the Prince sat beside an older Jellybean dragon, the Emperor, “My Son, Your wife is so beautiful, I’d almost want to take her for my own.” he said watching Yumemi as she danced. She danced lost within her own mind as she did, it was the only thing that kept her going through these days. “Of course father, she will be the Empress at my side and will belong to no other.” The Prince smirked. Yumemi walked out onto the lane dancing as she did, she almost bumps into a guard, he was red with black stripes, he wore brilliant armor as well “Excuse me.” she moved out of his way, He smiled, “Forgive me Princess.” he moved out of her way and walked to the prince, “My Lord, the raiders have attacked the north village, what will we do?” he bowed respectfully, The Prince sighed, “Send out a group of men, I’ll lead them to victory once more, prepare my horse.” he ordered, “And protect my wife while I am gone at all costs.” he walked away exiting stage right. The Emperor then rose up, “I will see my son off swiftly, I have work to do after, make sure she gets back to her room safely.” he followed after the prince. Yumemi sighed when they left and fell upon the stage dramatically. The red tiger striped guard rushed to her side, “My Lady, are you alright?” he checked her over, “I am not.” Yumemi lowered her head away from him.

“Here I am but a slave, I do not do as I love anymore.” She looked at him. He blinked, “Not as you love?” he moved to her side, “No.” She looked down, “I dance for him everyday since he took me to be his own, everyday I used to dance among the stars and the sky like I was free and had no worries, I could relax and be myself. But now I obey him and do as he says.” Yumemi rose up lightly, “No longer am I free” She danced to him, “Before I used to be happy when I danced because I loved it.” Moving away from him again, He watched her movement with loving eyes. “I am sorry my Princess.” moving towards her, “I did not know being here has caused you such stress”. He took her hands and danced with her softly, “Please allow me to ease your pains.” he kissed her forehead and then they danced, from the main stage to the aisle, dancing through the audience. With that the lights went black allowing people time for a short lunch break.

The lights returned, the prince was in the middle of war, fighting with bandits, his men slain, he looked left then right fighting for his life as they charged for him. The lights dimmed as the prince fell, wounded badly, he looked up at the bandits, coughing, trying to keep his final breath. The Emperor walked on the stage, “Without you, Yumemi is mine, and this country, mine to keep and to rule.” he announced over the audience’s shocked gasps. The prince looked towards his father trying to speak, but soon his head fell, his life now silenced forever. The Emperor laughed as he walked off the stage, leaving his son’s body there. The lights went black again and Yumemi was laying gently under the tree in the garden. The Guard at her side, he kissed her head gently. “My Princess… I will always keep you safe.”, “Thank you.” Yumemi dipped her head, a loud noise is heard off stage and gasped sitting up, “The Prince must have returned. Please don’t let them catch you like this.” The Guard rose up, “I won’t my Princess, as you wish.” he said getting up and running off Stage left. The Emperor walked to Yumemi from Stage right. “My Princess, it seems your husband has fallen in battle”, Yumemi looked at him, “Fallen?” rising up from her place. “He is dead, that means you now belong with me” The Emperor said grabbing her waist and pulling her to him, she gasped and tried to pull away. “Leave her be!” The Guard said rushing back on, two others grabbed onto him. “This must be the one who has taken grasp of your heart.” The Emperor said, “This would possess you to be most disloyal, but as you realize, that cannot be had.” he laughed.

“Please don’t hurt him!” Yumemi yelped, “I’ll do anything, just please don’t hurt him.” She pleaded to him. “I won’t hurt him.” He looked at her, then the Guard, “I'll be executing him.” he smirked. “NO!” Yumemi gasped, The Emperor grabbed her and dragged her off stage left, the Guards dragged the traitor off from the middle lane as the music becomes more dramatic. They return to the stage Yumemi watched in horror as her lover was killed before her eyes though it is done offstage, the Emperor looked at her, “If you ever disobey me again, you will never see the light of day again” he said to her. She looked at him, lost in her own sorrow, she nodded slowly and gently she danced her sorrows, all of her feelings had been diminished. The poor delicate butterfly who lost everything, danced for her master. Danced for the loss of her lover, and danced… for the life she could never have. Soon she lost herself in her dreams as she danced obeying her master’s every whim.

“The loss of love can effect the heart and make it shatter… truly love is the only emotion so powerful.” Yumemi said as she walked back upon the stage. Sitting down softly she bowed her head to the Audience, “My life is now and forever a Geisha for my master, everyday I dance for him, and now I carry his child, freedom is forever gone, the sky is no longer my home where I dance, the Cherry Blossom’s fall today, like sad little tears for me.Alas, I cannot cry anymore, I am thankful just to be alive, even if I have nothing left to live for. Perhaps one day someone will free me, take me away from here, perhaps I can fall in love again.” She rose up gently. She danced to the middle and slowed to a stop, looking down, suddenly her kimono moved, from the middle popped out a tiny head, a little Jellybean Baby was in her pouch, she looked at him sadly, "Hush little one" she said, "You are his child, my lovers, if my husband knew you would be dead to, I cannot care for you like I wish I could... But I do know who can, perhaps if I cannot be free, you can in my place even if I lose my life." She patted the child's head and walked off stage swiftly. The lights dimmed as a hooded figure ran on stage with a basket, they put the basket down and the ran away again, suddenly it moved and cried loudly. Yumemi's Father walked back on stage and blinked, "What be this?" He said and kneeled down, he picked up the small child, it was a reddish pink with white stripes. "Y-Yumemi?" He gasped. He picked up a note and read it aloud. "My father, I know I have failed and I can never be free, my life has ended with this. This is my son, the son of my lover, my husband can never find out, if he did my son would be dead, I cannot let him die, he must be free, for me... After the death of my lover, I have named him Akatora, please... Care for him as you did me. Don't ever sell him away. I know it will hurt, but he is my son and I trust you to care for him. Goodbye my Father, may I dance in the stars for you" He started to cry and looked to the child, hugging onto him, he carried him off stage.
The curtains closed and the music faded. Everyone clapped wildly for the actors. Yumemi smiled proudly, though this play was tragic, she was named after the main character and for that it became her favourite play. Yumemi took her final bows with the rest of the cast and the lights went black, the night had come, the play was over.

Just Over.

Rihito

Age:
27

Story:
-Rihito plays the mute. Rihito is also mute in "real life", not just in the play, which is why she is able to play her part so well.-
- Play is called "孤独 伊予柑", or Kodoku Iyokan in the Latin alphabet. -

The play was soon to begin.

Papers were plastered to the exterior walls of the wooden building, each dirty and torn. These papers wearily flapped as the wind trickled across the sides of the wood, causing the letters “孤独 伊予柑” to stir across the poster’s surface. The lilac morning was clear and cool and ominously silent. A crimson light shined off the mirror-like pond that rest in front of the theatre, and a cool ripple of wind sent that light shimmering into a blood-like river of terrible redness.

Bodies crowded into the small, cabin-like building as the actors prepared themselves. Sickly, yellow, dim lights filled the room, illuminating particles of dust and revealing parts of the stage. There were far more people than there was space, and the air became charged with a certain sort of confinement. After many unsettling minutes of this stuffy confusion, everyone had found a seat, and the actors began their way to the compact stage.

The following moments were chaotic and clumsy, but soon the grace of dance consumed the stage. A young male from the crowd read his play brochure as the first singers strutted up the hanamichi to join the dancers in merry worship. He was not yet of the age to be captivated by such an art, so his eyes busily traced the letters on his paper. He read each Act’s description carefully, not bothering to pay attention to the entertainment before him.

“ACT 1:”,the paper said, “The Beginning.” A group began the music, a rhythmic picking of the shamisen. He continued reading. “Osaka, 1659. A mute female sits in front of an orchard, staring at the road before her. Her inability to communicate hinders her. She struggles with everyday tasks such as going into public to buy food, or to buy supplies, or to do anything. She is useless and acts mainly as a beggar.”

By now the actors and dancers and singers had truly begun the first scene. A stunningly bright colored dancer took the stage, playing the infamous mute. She moved gracefully and appeared to have no temptation to open her mouth to speak or sing. A good entertainer, she was. The male turned his attention back to the summaries. “ACT 2: The Samurai.” The boy rolled his eyes at the thought of a male figure, for surely it meant love. At his age, love was a disgusting and incomprehensible waste of time. “A samurai, stripped of all his possessions, enters Osaka. He sits at a sake bar, depressed and irritable. He interacts with those inside for a long time, expressing the anger he held for his situation. He leaves and encounters the mute beggar, who is very beautiful, and yells at her in a drunken state. When he collapses, she takes him to her home.”

The male began to daydream as those on the stage carried out the commands of the paper. It had been a long time since the play had started, he could tell by the blue daylight shining through the openings in the wood near the front of the building. Sleepiness took over the young child’s mind, though, and for a while he drifted off. When he awoke, the boy let his eyes wander to the stage, where the pink dancer was flowing as if in an ocean of shimmering silk. Her eyes were sad as she looked at her samurai partner, as if she knew something was soon to come. He flipped open his paper to see where he was in the play, and what he had missed. The windows now revealed a startling orange, letting the child know some time had passed.

“ACT 3: Friendship.” The music had become soothing now, the shamisen was plucked with serenity. “The samurai, thankful for the mute’s kindness, begins to help the girl with everyday activities. He assists her with buying food and supplies, and with walking around the town with more confidence, and with interacting in minimal amounts. She begins to bond slowly to the samurai, who is a sort of savior to her.” By looking at the stage, it seemed as if the performers had passed this part. The boy moved on. “ACT 4: Intimacy.” The boy wasn't entirely sure what the word meant, but its sound held some sort of passionate intensity. “The mute and the samurai draw closer. They become the closest of friends, getting each other out of trivial and comical situations, and struggling through life together. The samurai becomes intimate with other ladies as well, though, because his looks are fine as well. The mute begins to feel sorrow and jealousy.”

Hours passed, and the night had crept through the theatre’s windows. The play was over, and the people left with conflicting emotions. The ending had been sad, lonely, and as tragic as the bloodspill the red light had left on the water. “ACT 5: Loneliness. The samurai, thoroughly fascinated by other women, spends less and less time with the mute. The mute slowly recesses back to her old ways. In an attempt to save herself, she confesses her love to the samurai. The samurai denies her, regardless of their journeys together, and leaves her on the road. He walks away, down the road, and does not turn back. END.”

Even the horror of the red light could not match the brutality with which the samurai denied his partner.

Dramatic Theme Music: xxxx - Not really dramatic, but this isn't that dramatic of a play. It's an everyday life play, and that music is actually made for this genre.
