"Little Fire"

The young dashing, but reserved Enya was heading to the park today. A little fresh air will do you good her mothers words hung bitterly in the air. The short kiamara was destined to be the center of everyone's teasing. "I hate the pa-" She didn't get to finish her quiet complaint when a loud call filled the air. "Hey look who it is! Enya, the vertically challenged." Enya shrank down her ears hot with embarrassment. It was a male kiamara well known here, and when he laughed, so did everyone else. Stalking away she hoped for a bit of peace but calls sounded closer in the air. Midget, shorty, dwarf, pipsqueak, and small pint. couldn't they think of anything new? At least it'd be something a little different in her life, but she was sure the name calling wouldn't change. "Hey, Enya's so short she's the last one to know when it rains." She skidded to a stop ears flat and eyes slits of fury. These jerks were taking it to far. She whipped around to face them for once she didn't wince at the mocking stares. "Haha shorties gonna fight back!" She looked at the taller kiamara with mock confusion. "What? I'm not short, it's just optical illusions." She snorted sarcastically. "Hey Enya! Get me something off the bottom shelf?" Another cold reply stung her ears. "Sure but only if you get me something from the top shelf. Oh and I forgot to ask, how's the weather up there? And I wouldn't go to the zoo anytime soon, I heard the giraffes were jealous." She threw comeback after comeback until her rude pursuers flashed a last angry stare and bounded away. For once Enya had stood up for herself.

Imogen was struggling, she wasn’t able to win over the attention of all the other perfectly normal kiamaras with there beautiful smooth manes and tails along the best feathers and always had the envy of others. She sat on a log watching the other kiamaras training for hunting. One of the adults had sat her out because of her short legs. “I think that will be enough young ones” She heard one of the older ones say. The trainer nodded in agreement “Well then, lets go down to the hunting grounds” He said sprinting off as the others followed. Imogen sat there. She desperately wanted to go and join them, but something inside of her stayed. “Its not worth it” She sighed to herself, curling her tail around her legs, the fur was partly knotted but easy to control. Minutes past, soon 30 minutes which then turned into a couple of hours. “Not worth leaving” She thought “I don’t know the forest very well”. She curled herself up and closed her eyes. Suddenly a soft shaking shook the ground, but Imogen just shook it off, not worth worrying about. Suddenly out of the thick growth emerged a large buck which quickly scooped her up in its antlers throwing Imogen into the air without hesitation. She hit the ground with a thud. She attacked back by instinct and swiftly dodged all attempts at the bucks attacks. She grabbed his front leg with her jaw spooking the creature as it backed up and trotted back into the forest. Imogen looked back to the log panting only to find the class watching the whole time. “Would you like to join us” The trainer said. Imogen stood with a bland expression “No thankyou” She smiled turning and trotting into the thick ferns and bushes.
