story behind the scars:
as a young colt he was quick to prove his bravery and toughness to his fellow herd members, and being in the swamps, would land him in some strange situations. for example, getting his head stuck in a venus fly trap, or attacked by misqetos
The lead stallion took fear to his personality and decided he would rid him of the herd anyway possible, in fear of any future dethrone.
and when he hit a year in a half, the leader decided the deadline had come.
he told him about an aligator that had attacked one of his mares, and had snagged a few foals. He wanted Ranjit to go with him to take the alligator down.
on the night of the attack, the leader encouraged Ranjit to walk in the murky water to scout for the aligator. but when it was found, the leader ran, leaving him helpless and in the jaws of the aligator.
