"I'm about to drive in the ocean.
Imma try to swim from something
bigger than me.
Kick off my shoes.
And swim good
and swim good..."
The officer flicked the light on. It shone in the small dragon's eyes. He squinted to see the officer.
"Alright kid. I'll ask you again. What's your
.N.A.M.E.::..?" the officer's voice boomed.
It echoed in the tiny room.
He didn't ask to be here. He didn't even do anything wrong.
"Listen kid you're gonna have to talk. This is just gonna last longer the more you stall."He stared at him in fright.
On the other side of the glass, another dragon, Lauren, and her owner, Cammie, stood with another officer.
"Something's wrong. He was talking perfectly to me. I don't get it..." Lauren sighed and rested her head against the glass.
"Say something..."
"KID. If you don't tell me your name I'm gonna have to call in backup."Lauren couldn't take it. She bit her fist.
The officer was frustrated. He slammed his fist on the table.
"TALK."Dia jumped at the officers loud outburst, he ducked his head and covered his ears.
A small tear ran down his muzzle.
That made Lauren snap.
She punched on the glass, breaking the silence, and said,
"DIA! His name is Dia!"The officer grabbed her to pull her away from the glass. Dia was startled. But recognized a voice.
"Lauren?" he whispered.
The officer next to Lauren paused in shock and stared at the boy through the one-sided window.
"... t-that's the first word we've gotten out of him in days."Dia walked up and pressed his hand against the glass.
"Lauren?"(full name is Dia Emmanuel James
some people call him James or J)

As long as Dia has been in America, he's loved the music. All of it. From Michael Bublé to Frank Ocean to Celine Dion to Tyler the Creator to Stevie Wonder. He can't understand or translate most of the lyrics, but he enjoys the rhythm and uniqueness of the music. It's unlike anything he's ever heard before and he hopes to learn how to make other children like him feel the same way about music he creates in the future.

As an activity, when Dia was growing up in Kenya, his grandmother didn't have enough money for toys. So he did the closest thing; origami paper toys. He learned and taught himself to do it. And, because he didn't have too many friends, he'd talk to them, tell them about his day, tell them all his problems... they might be small pieces of paper to you but to him they were like family.

Dia can't speak much English but can fully comprehend the feeling and understanding of love. He may be small and weak in some eyes but he would guard and protect those closest to him with all his might and heart. Fear means nothing when family comes into the picture. So this is Lauren, Akeelah and Dia. Hopefully it can remain like this... <3
good luck everyone. You all did great. <3
