(This is my own poem I wrote in 9th grade. I hope this is acceptable)

Her petals break
Like fragile glass
We watch her; the flower
She stands on her stage of soil of grass

As she grows old
Her mane of colours fade
And fall to the ground
Where a bloom once laid

She shrivels to brown
Her beauty is no more
And now silence the once adoring encore

they seem to tease me with their distance, dancing through the night sky
i cry, asking them to come just a little bit closer for a chance to be with them
why won't they listen to me? it's not fair. i want to be with them up there.

"they're stars, silly goose. they don't listen to anyone," my mother's voice whispers
"but it's not fair! they're so far away! what about their mama?" i ask, sniffling
the moonlight illuminates my room and my mother's soft smile as she looks to the sky

"their mother loves them dearly. she lets them be free, as i will you one day,"
her tone is soft as she turns her attention back to me, "i love you to the moon-"
"-and back," i finish, wiping my tears away. for now, i'm content to be here

the stars can wait, and when it's time, i can join them at my own pace.

Happiness

What is happiness I hear you say,
What helps us smile on dreary days,
What sends a tingle through our bones,
What helps us talk in cheerful tones?

How does it pick and how does it choose
When to arrive or when to move.
How does it know to run right through
Every person, like me and you?

Some people try as hard as they can,
To steal it from another man
It's yours forever, it's yours to keep
Don't let them take something so deep

You must search within when times are blue
For, Happiness lives inside of you
