---------------------------------------------Day,
Night.---------------------------------------------
From the sky it falls into the depths below,
caught between land and sea.

---------------------------------------------Life,
Death.---------------------------------------------

No matter where it is,---------------------------------------------
It all comes to me.---------------------------------------------
Come, gentle child, bear your body waste in my arms---------------------------------------------
Here in the depths---------------------------------------------
Here in the sea---------------------------------------------
You belong to me---------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------But oh, spirit strong
---------------------------------------------Rise above,
---------------------------------------------To the Heavens I welcome
---------------------------------------------Wander with me, join the skies

---------------------------------------------Your body falls
---------------------------------------------but soul rises to me

Dance in my arms
We are one and the same
The cycle beginning to end

---------------------------------------------You will Rise

Then Fall again---------------------------------------------

Waves amongst the sea---------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------Clouds amongst the sky

Life connected through me---------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------Your journey welcomed by I

In the end, we start again.
So let us start again.

---------------------------------------------Day,

Night.---------------------------------------------

A new life falls into the depths below.---------------------------------------------
A new dancer has joined the ball,---------------------------------------------
Welcome, little one, to this here new dawn---------------------------------------------

Take my hand, gentle child,---------------------------------------------
I shall show you how to follow,---------------------------------------------
Lay your roots, May you grow---------------------------------------------
Mighty and strong---------------------------------------------

Until the waves pull you in---------------------------------------------
Now, your turn it is to lead;---------------------------------------------
Dance with the current, As I have showed you---------------------------------------------
Meander through the sea---------------------------------------------
You will find you footing---------------------------------------------

Take up arms as the storm starts to brew---------------------------------------------
You've heard of it before---------------------------------------------
The anger, the wails, bludgeoning into the sea---------------------------------------------
Dodge the throes as you spin---------------------------------------------
This mazurka is not over yet---------------------------------------------

No longer you lead, hands taking you by the hip---------------------------------------------
They bring you up, and spin you more---------------------------------------------

But you take over again,---------------------------------------------
You will not sink so soon---------------------------------------------
Grin fiercely as we watch---------------------------------------------
Staring into each other's eyes---------------------------------------------

I ask,---------------------------------------------
"Do you know who I am?"---------------------------------------------

You nod
"You taught me how to dance,
But we're not quite finished yet."

I laugh, and spin you again,---------------------------------------------
You pull me through,---------------------------------------------
And together we dance still---------------------------------------------

"Do you know why we dance?"---------------------------------------------

"It is how we live
Without it, we die."

Once step ahead of another---------------------------------------------
You fear to let me go---------------------------------------------
You wish not to sink---------------------------------------------

But oh, you forget you can swim,---------------------------------------------
without my hand to guide any more.---------------------------------------------
But oh, I shall merry you on,---------------------------------------------

However,---------------------------------------------
All things can only last so long,---------------------------------------------
And so long we have danced---------------------------------------------
Feet at light as feathers---------------------------------------------

It is time for another to take you up.---------------------------------------------
My child, fear not.---------------------------------------------
Found you will always be.---------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------Here you are,

---------------------------------------------Not a step taken further.
---------------------------------------------A new hand takes yours.

---------------------------------------------"Who are you?"

---------------------------------------------"The anger brought to the sea,
---------------------------------------------Do you remember me?"

You nod.
"We've met before.
Before I was born."

---------------------------------------------"So we have."
---------------------------------------------We need not share more,
---------------------------------------------as you lead beyond.

Sea---------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------Sky
The dance is done
But it is not the end

As the rain fell from the clouds of the storm
It met the rivers
and journeyed to the sea
Where all things meet
In the belly of the Underworld

Till the sun's rays
Pulled them back towards their light.
In peace and serenity above it all.

Till the clouds again they heavied,
and Earth beckoned
Her rain down again

And there again I wait---------------------------------------------
To catch you in my arms---------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------As I watch
---------------------------------------------Ready to pull you up again
---------------------------------------------Once you have finished your dance.

I ask who you prefer

---------------------------------------------The frenzy of the waves?
---------------------------------------------The calm of the light?

The excitement of the sea?---------------------------------------------
The emptiness of the sky?---------------------------------------------

You pause and think

"It is one in the end.
Life,
Death.

Day,
Night.

Sea,
Sky.

Neither exists without the other,
I cannot choose.

Let me hate the both of you.
Let me enjoy the both of you.

Let me experience all of you."

The water swirled as it's surface rippled from the creature beneath. Wings grazed against
the underside of the water's surface, pressing against it. The water bowed and almost
seemed to give to the pressure under the surface, yet it never pierced.

The creature thrashed violently under the water's surface, bashing it's hands against it's
mirrored world. Trapped deep beneath the water's surface she was banished, far from
her home she once knew. Her body had changed and contorted to fit the environment,
her legs had merged to become a single tail, fins in place of her feet. Her wings were
a constant painful reminder of the life she lived before.

"I am the one to be punished for your neglect!" Her fists balled and pound against
the water once again, sobs choking it's way up through her throat. "You! Of all who was to
love me!"
She shrieked, claws grasping at nothing as she raked at the underside of the water.

The stars twinkled with their silent reply, almost mocking her punishment! Their lights flickered
with a false laugh. Her teeth grit as she was taunted by the heavens above. "I will have my revenge."
The words spit like venom from her lips, vowing to seize the heavens has her own.

·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙ ✩ *̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙

A thousand years passed.
The moon shone bright, brighter than before as it's light cast upon the water, shimmering as
the constellations seemingly danced on the water's surface. The water rippled once more, eyes piercing
through the other side. "Moon. Be my vessel and guide me." The water ripped open, the creature
gripping onto the surface of it as she pulled herself to freedom. Her claws dug into it, a wicked laugh
bubbling in her throat.

"Finally." Her voice hissed, her wings spreading against the surface of the water. The twinkling reflections
trembled in fear. The wings slowly began to collect the stars from the reflection, dragging them along the
water's surface. Behind her from the water rose her army. Their mass of tendrils coiled and writhed against
the flesh prison. One by one she had gathered her army to seize the heavens.

"May heaven meet earth." Her hands raised to the sky, grabbing onto the air. Claws sunk into the
blanketed sky, pulling the stars into her hungry maw. One by one she devoured the stars, each bite only
growing the hunger she felt. Her army slithered along her back, grabbing ahold of her as she began to
conquer the sky.

Hungry hands grabbed onto the surface of the world, bringing her face into the crust of it.
"I am Cordelia no longer!" A laugh roared from her chest, crushing the planet into pieces.

"I am Keres, the Devourer of Worlds."
----------------------------THE END----------------------------
The three kits trembled in fear as they listened to the story told by their babysitter, a wide grin
on her face. "Pretty cool right?"

One of them hit the floor, the other two beginning to cry.

"Oh... Well. Maybe that was too scary." She picked up the kits and comforted them for
much longer than she would have normally. "No more scary stories I promise..." She spoke softly
to them, tucking them into their beds.

Once they had fallen asleep she sighed, picking up the book and setting it down on the coffee
table by the chair. "It's not like it's a true story anyway... right?"

sea or sky:

“Kalons weren’t meant to go that fast Breeze. Don’t be foolish”

“They said the same thing to you when you said you were going to out fly a hurricane.”

Falcon had sighed “Lives were on the line Breeze, that was completely different.”

Breeze had grown frustrated “Lives are on the line now! It’s like none of you are thinking of all we could save if only someone was brave enough to push the boundary of what we can do!”

His face had dropped and his tone turned more serious “Breeze, whatever you're thinking of doing, don’t. It’s not worth the damage you could do to yourself or others.”

She had exasperatedly told him “I won’t! I know my limits. I’m not going to hurt myself.”

The wind and thunder had roared around her, the sky was tumultuous today. Nothing would’ve persuaded her to not go ahead. High above the ocean she would begin her descent, using the extra speed she would gain from the gravity pulling her toward the earth she would do it.

She would break the sound barrier.

Her heart was pounding in her ears, from excitement or fear she couldn’t tell but she was ready.

Ready to make history?

With a final deep inhale she snapped her large wings shut and began to free fall. The wind and rain were whipping sharply against her skin. Nothing she wasn’t used to, she travelled at this speed all the time.

5 Kilometres left

She was starting to really pick up speed. Almost there now. She gritted her teeth slightly. Adrenaline began to flow through her veins, she loved going this fast.

4 Kilometres left

The rain was starting to sting, she didn’t think rain would ever be able to hurt her.

3 Kilometres left

She could see the ocean now as she hurtled straight for it. She never liked the sea….

What if she wasn’t able to pull up in time?
Would she plunge into its icy depths never to surface again?

2 Kilometres left

The panic had settled inside her throat, she didn’t know how to swim. ‘I-I have to bail.’

She began to gently try and pull her wings from her body, careful to not let them snap in the process, but the force of the wind around her was making that far more difficult then she could have imagined.

1 Kilometre left

As much as she tried she couldn’t pull her wings from her body. Nobody knew she was here, she hadn’t told anyone. A desperate cry escaped from her throat “Help me!” tears began to fall in a most unnatural upward direction “Help me please…”

Thud

Something had crashed into her interrupting her fall, enough to stop her momentum to finally be able to pull her wings from her body. However it had hit hard and she was left winded gasping for air. She then saw him, Falcon was in the water struggling to swim. She rasped “Falcon” and did her best to fly over to help him. She tried to talk to him her speech interrupted with ragged gasps “I’m -gasp- sorry I -gasp- should’ve -gasp- listened to you”
She offered him her paw to try and pull him out of the ocean. She was only able to hold him a few inches above the water hungrily lapping at his paws “I can’t hold you any higher you need to fly”

Falcon gently reached his paw up to Breeze’s face, it was only then that she saw it. His wing was broken pointing in a most unnatural direction.

“Let go”

“Breeze for your role in the death Falcon, we banish you from the skies.”

She angrily spat at them, “You can’t stop me from flying, you can never stop me. I belong in the skies, among the clouds!”

“So you may never return, you will have your wings clipped and so you may never forget, we will bind you to the sea.”

“You can't, you don’t have the power to do such a thing!”

But before her very eyes, as the angels commanded her paws began turning into the same salty brine that had claimed Falcon, forever marking her as a possession of the ocean.

Sea-breeze was her name now.

Below the skies but above the waves.

✶ The Skydweller

Standing upon the shore, she watched on. Despite the swirling waves and falling sky before her, the world was silent. All she felt was cold and empty as the sky and sea appeared to swallow themselves into the void before her. Prophetic images of global destruction. She felt that the Gods would not save them from the sea nor the sky.

    Kalon name: Feray

Feray blinked open her eyes. The images she had been seeing were growing darker and she felt her connection to the Gods, the Skydwellers, slipping from her grasp. She rubbed her hands over her face with a heavy sigh: why couldn't she reach them anymore? She couldn't tell the village folk that their Seer couldn't reach their Gods anymore, nor that the prophecy that she was seeing appeared to depict the end of the world.
"So? Did you see anything?" The Shaman beside Feray asked. She was holding an empty bowl that once held the herbal concoction to induce visions. Her words shook with anticipation.
Feray took deep, shallow breaths as she grounded herself back to reality. "Nothing that made sense." She stayed seated. The Shaman began collecting up more herbs, intending to make another of her potions. Reaching out her hand, Feray shook her head, "Let me rest. It is a full moon tonight, Skydwellers will come to me at the height of our connection." She could only hope.

Once she had gathered herself, she exited the tent. Feray looked across the settlement to the ocean on the horizon and then up to the sky. The moon was still visible this early in the morning. The moon connected her people to the sky and to the sea - it sat high among the clouds yet still influenced the movement of waves.
The day went about as expected. Feray assisted in preparing some of the fish that were brought back by the settlement's fishermen, hoping to calm her nerves regarding whetheer the Gods would come to her tonight.

When the day came to and end, the majority of the folk disappeared to their homes. Feray and the shaman had a longer night ahead of them. The pair sat close to the water, the tide lapping close to their toes. The bowl of herbs sat in Feray's lap as she stared up the moon. Please speak to me, she thought. Raising the concoction to her lips, she drank it all quickly. The shaman took the bowl from Feray and laid her down on the rocky shore. The shaman prayed over Feray, begging the Skydwellers to speak to her and give them a clear direction.

Gasping, Feray found herself now stood in a dark void. Water rippled beneath her feet, yet she did not feel wet. She looked around the void, there was nothing in view, but she could hear the murmuring of voices. With no other option, Feray began walking towards the distant voices. While she didn't come upon the large group of people that she could hear, she saw a slumped figure by themself.
"Feray," The voice was familiar, "You are here. I have been waiting for you to be ready." As she listened to his voice, she realised that this was one of the Skydwellers.
"What happened?" She rushed to his side, he seemed so much smaller than she had anticipated. Feray held him in her arms. The distant voices had become quiet now.
"The details of an old Skydweller isn't important." He chuckled a little, before coughing into his hand. A black liquid in his palm. He lifted his gaze to look at Feray's face. The darkness surrounding them lifted to reveal sunset coloured clouds drifting through galaxies above their heads. The light revealed the voices were figures surrounding them.
"Join them." He gestured to the circle of Gods, "Protect your people from up here amongst the clouds and the stars." The God was weak. His eyes sunken and tired. "Replace me. Prevent the prophecy from coming true." His voice was broken. He wasn't ready to go, but they both knew it was his time. He had served from the Sky for long enough. "Look after them better than I."

Murmurs of a Skydweller coming from a village along the coast clung to the verbal history of the region for centuries. Feray would watch from the Sky, alongside the many other Gods, promising that the sky would not fall into the ocean and take the world with it. While she may have chosen to take her place in the Sky, it was along the shore that she would always call home.

What she didn't know, was that she would become the last Skydweller.

I did something I wasn't meant to.

I pushed my head through the window, the lack of resistance was unnerving, like I could as easily tumble into it as I would from my bed as a child. My head breached the surface and my hair, much to my perturbation, slid to my relative left. My ears suddenly cleared to birdsong harmonizing with a shy breeze that made my scalp feel cold.

I was never one to get thalassophobia, the pressure always added to a sense of presence. There was something there, compressing, holding me in place. I imagine that the way people with thalassophobia would feel if they awoke from a dream to find themselves miles away from the closest shelf would be similar to the way I felt as I panned my gaze over that endless sky line. The water above/below me made a perfect mirror, I felt as though I could fly just as easily as I could fall. The window on the side of my world was only two square yards at it's widest. I fear to wonder if the diameter on the sky's side is the same. Or what would happen when it ended. A stone formed in my throat as it overwhelmed me, restricting my breath. I could breath, something so natural and mechanical felt out of place.

In a horrifying moment of vertigo, I felt like I was slipping through the window, so I ended my expedition there. Wrenching myself back into my familiar watery world. Centuries old ruins and lanternfish reassured me that I had returned to a place I knew. The sudden shift in pressure made my eyes hurt but I fought through it.

I wasn't meant to do that.

Our expedition leaders back on the mainland strictly denied us any direct contact with the window. We had no discernable evidence of what would happen to any individual that touched it. We were to conduct studies and tests from a safe distance lest we may face some unknown consequence. I just dunked my entire head into it. I wanted to laugh.

I was the only member of the expedition left.
What was I meant to do really? Go back to the mainland with nothing? Could I live with this mystery gone unsolved?
Everyone else fled.

I reluctantly understand. My breeching through the window was the first time, but I found that it wasn't my first time seeing the other side. I don't sleep much anymore, my dreams have become more restless than my waking moments. When I sleep, I am there. When I sleep, I fly amongst the not-quite-frigatebirds. The light, that seems to emanate from everywhere all at once, grows brighter and brighter until all I see is white. When I awake, sunspots invade my vision.

When I turned eleven, my mother took me out to a park I had never been to before. She sat me on a bench to eat lunch, then handed me a gift wrapped in glittering foil. Opening it reveled a book on local flora. She sat on that bench and watched me catalogue every plant I could find in my notebook. It wasn't until the sky noticeably dimmed that she pulled me away from the woods to go home and stop for ice cream on the way.

I can feel her tugging on my shirt the way she would when I was too lost to notice her. The way she did that day. Telling me that it's time to go home. But she is not here, and my head is filled with light.

How am I meant to understand the unobtainable, discern the indiscernible. These instruments of knowledge and reason can do nothing in the presence of the divine. The only hope they have is to submit themselves to a higher meaning. Categorizing, dividing the indivisible. The only truth there is, is of the whole.

On the archipelago I called home, the mainland as it were, There were stories mothers would tell to children about a long gone god. They were said to bring the rain that grew our livelihoods as well as storms that ravaged them. I was told that when this god was formed, they fell into the sky to forever traverse on the bottom of clouds. At the time, I found that sad.
Now though...
I plumet as they must have centuries ago, there are no clouds to catch me. I reach for the sun as they must have. I feel the elation as they must have. I understand now, as they must have, that there is no life without the view from the precipice. How could I ever resurface.

Long ago, before the world we know, before the land we tread, there were only sea and sky.

The sea and sky, with all their differences and all their similarities, did not get along. They raged at each other with tooth and claw, locked in a dispute that had gone on so long, neither remembered starting. All they knew was that they could not let the other outdo them, so on they fought, both day and night.

The sky danced endlessly and sang of stars and light. It cruelly taunted the sea with tales of worlds beyond the sea's reach.

The sea in turn raked at the sky with violent swells. It roared to drown out the sky’s songs. It accused the sky of being weak, as the sky frequently danced out of reach of the sea.

One day, tired of the war, a great seabird descended from the clouds where she lived and approached the waters. She attempted to plead with the sea, but it could not hear her over the roar of its own waves and the screaming of the sky’s winds.

The seabird was scolded by the skies. Winds tossed her about the air. She was warned not to approach the enemy again, lest she be drowned by the sea’s cruel depths.

But the seabird pressed on. She gathered her strength and folded her wings to dive toward the sea. With eyes closed, she remained steadfast. The waves leapt up to snatch at her.

She collided with the water, the force shocking both the sea and the sky into a moment of stillness. The towering waves, who had raged their whole lives, swelled with one final breath and fell still as they swallowed the seabird. The sky went silent as it waited to see if the seabird would reemerge.

Deep beneath the surface, the seabird opened her eyes. There, where no sunlight reached, she found herself facing the spirit of the sea.

“Little one,” the sea said, “why do you come to where you cannot belong?”

“I come to ask for peace,” the seabird replied. “I cannot belong in the clouds while you fight. I ask for a place where I can rest between you and the sky. I will help you to be at peace with each other.”

The sea considered the seabird’s request and found it favorable. But the sea could not make something new from nothing.

“I need something to transform into this place of rest.”

“You may use my body. My spirit will inhabit the place.”

“Very well,” said the sea.

At the surface, the waters trembled and split as an island emerged. The sky let out the breath it didn’t know it had held. A gentle breeze swept across the new land.

The seabird's spirit was reborn in the form of a kalon who stood at the edge of the island. His pelt was speckled with the seabird’s feathers and painted with the story of her mission. This new body possessed water of its own that formed a mane and pawpads.

The kalon, in his soul, knew he was where he was meant to be.

He stepped out onto the sea. His pawpads kept their surface tension and stood atop the ocean’s surface, letting him walk across the water. He grinned as he called to the sky.

“The sea has granted me a gift and a place to stay!” he declared joyfully. "I will remain here so that I can keep peace between the sea and sky. I cannot belong in the clouds anymore, but I know my voice will reach you. I know the songs of the sky. I know you have heard my story, and that I will be remembered amongst the clouds."

The sea and sky agreed that in order to protect the new kalon who dwelt between them, they must lay aside their war. The sky missed its companion, the seabird, but it was proud of her. It watched fondly from above and admired the kalon, who now eagerly explored the world. A world where islands previously drowned in the storm could emerge and grow.

It is said that atop the ocean's most mighty swells you may catch a glimpse of the kalon, Lir, as the sea lifts him high to visit the clouds his soul once knew.

We flock towards the boundary (the horizon; an infinitely thin line, splitting in half the above and the below), and reach into the in-between. As seconds pass, the border fades into itself. It's as if, as the ages pass, those limits lose their meaning, and we are lost within an endless grey from what once seemed so black and white.

The horizon; it attracts a certain kind of lonely people.

And what are you, if not lonely?

Feeling the beat of the drum against your chest - tide in, tide out, breathe in, breathe out. Salty foam plays with the wind, spitting and furious and cold. Does that endless azurity hold within its dulcet shades the stability that you lack? Or is it the predictability that you desire, the scientific order behind the chaos? Behind you, all dirt and earthquakes, it ties you down to the ground in a desperate and fevered grasp.

But what are you if not brave and strong, the forever fighter against the unending monotony of life? Like the ships that weather fury and storm, toss and turn in winds bitter and worn.

The sea froth of our love caresses your ankles in a gentle suggestion; rest with us. In mercurial currents and the cushioning sink of pastel sands, we beckon you softly to break from the responsibilities that burden you. Move with us into the deep. The abyss will hold you in the comfort you have always longed for. Dissolve into us, bubbles and air in baby blue, sunlight and moonlight in shifting shades fluttering tenderly through ripples on the surface above. Deeper still, with pressure building - darkness encompasses, so close your eyes. Sleep in the hold of the current, trust us, become us, fall beyond fields of emerald kelp and jewel shoals into the tightest embrace of black and beautiful bioluminescence. We will understand the shape of you.

What are you, if not fragments held together with fraying rope? A dreamer of blue skies and storm clouds?

You long for freedom and air, both of which have been withheld from you for so long. Float with us, lighter than anything in our combined mass, heavier than a cumulonimbus, drifting ascendant. As a child, had you felt a home within the stars, a belonging that called to you greater than your own warm bed? Have you felt the distance in every eon since? There need be no longing any longer, as we call for you and you need only to accept. Up into the atmosphere, among the cerulean that knows no wrong or right, and wants only you; angry grey with flashes cruel and bright that will love you in entirety; a place that has an empty space made for your presence, in its beautiful vastness, floating above the forever-shifting rainbows where lost balloons float in prismatic perpetuity. Upwards in the thin air cold and sharp, the taste of water vapour crisp, and into the empty space of infinity unbound, into the firmest hold of black and illumination.

What are you, if not a desire to be whole?

There are no tragedies here. The lonely flock towards us, falling into the horizon. Their thoughts and emotions, gathered together, born into something that is nigh alive. A cohesive whole from fractured sentiments, gravitating together into a vortex - an Anchor, birthed. An Anchor to reality or the lack of such; a joining of minds for those that visit and wander, looking out and up and down. It’s all just water and air, movement and cycles in an eternal loop. It captures hearts and minds, and then releases them lighter back whence they came. We are the Anchor that listens and loves, that holds for a time and then lets go; we are the heaviness that falls from you. Within your consciousness and your desire to belong - an embodiment of connection to the infinite that makes its nest inside the home of your mind.

The sea or the sky, we ask? The border between them is never clearly defined; the horizon a matter of perspective. This Anchor is made of those of both; even when separated, they cycle between. Those who were called to us through the infinite clouds above will follow the rain down to the ocean; and those that found their home within the tides could never reject the unrelenting call of the moon.

So here we are, an apotheosis of emotion, manifestation of qualia. The remnants of memories and thoughts from the no-longer-lonely, some of sky and some of sea, an anchor of comfort and a foothold for those untethered. Evaporate and condense, precipitate and coalesce. Breathe.

      Breathe.

We no longer feel the weight of time. We have had an infinity before, and have infinity ahead, and every moment the vastness makes itself known.
