Tundra settled onto the quilt she had placed over the patch of snow and ice. She cast her eyes toward the darkened night sky, sitting back slightly with a soft smile on her face. She felt a small figure snuggle into her side and chuckled a bit as she could feel the excited trembling of the viscling. She wrapped an arm around the figure who continued to bounce and stare at the sky, eagerly awaiting.

"Kaylee, we do this every week and yet every time you act just as excited as the first time we brought you out here," Tundra spoke and heard a chuckle respond from a nearby snow drift where a second figure had settled in.

"Well every time is just as incredible as the first time I saw it!" Kaylee responded as she moved closer against Tundra's side.

"How are you always so cheerful?" Tundra joked, playfully poking Kaylee's sides causing her to squeak and squirm.

The figure sitting in the snow bank laughed, unaffected by the cold that brushed across them, and spoke in a deep voice, "There is nothing that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful, don't you know that Tundra?"

Tundra laughed once more and nodded, "Very true Gray, I don't think there has ever been a time she hasn't been. It must just be a part of who she is."

Tundra pulled the viscling to her side and wrapped a blanket around both their shoulders to keep the cold from settling onto their fur. She turned her eyes back to the sky, letting them skim the bright dots that marked the navy blanket above. Even though it was too dark for her to see much of her companions besides their vague shapes, she could sense their presence around her. This was something she looked forward to every week, just sitting here in the dark with her companions watching the night sky. The dark let her focus on them just being near, their calm breathing and of course the stars above.

Distracted by her thoughts, Tundra began to doze off but was awoken by a soft gasp and Kaylee standing up quickly. She turned back to look at the spectacle that now covered the sky and smiled at the colors that sprawled across the dark. The aurora borealis, no matter how many times she saw it, it would always take her breath away.

Kaylee was right, this was something to always be excited for. Not just for the colors that lit up the sky, but also for letting the dark whisk away everything that wasn't important, even just for a moment. She watched Kaylee's small form bounce around on the snow in front of her, giggling happily as she watched the colors ribbon across the dark sky. Kaylee sat back down with Tundra who wrapped the blanket around her once more.

There was something about sitting here in the dark that made her feel even more connected to the viscets sitting with her. In the dark nothing else mattered but the colors wavering above and her family sitting around her.

Darkness is his safe place as it seems so far away from the world he knows. It's peaceful and quiet, mysterious and dark, and has given him a homely feeling ever since he was born. It's a warm embrace for him to escape to when no one else is there for him. It's a place where he can feel free. Judgment and criticism have no power here. With the moon softly reflecting light on the world, illuminating it in a soft blue glow, he can't help but stare in awe and wonder at the mustache and enchanting place around him. It's perfect. It's freedom. It's home.
