Why do they keep their hair long? [300 words max or 1 art piece!]:
- During a period known as the Lost Era, there were five clans vying for the throne of the kingdom of Flores Sanctus, each with a strong desire for power and a willingness to do anything to obtain it. Unfortunately, all of the contenders were relatives of the original ruling class; therefore, according to the old laws, all their claims were valid. And therein lie the problem.
None of them would give an inch for the others, first suspecting one another of the deaths of the previous rulers, and when those suspicions waned, simply refusing to be the one that rescinded their claim. As far as facts go, the previous rulers caught a foreign illness and died before the healers could find a cure. But what they caught, and how, were always cause for questioning.
And it seemed this was destined to continue. From parent to child, they taught how to fight before they taught how to communicate. Three centuries passed under the tumultuous civil war, nothing changing. That is, until a young woman named Marcellina, born to be “warlike,” came into power in the Bellum Clan.
Warriors by nature, they kept their hair short as a sign of their battle readiness, undistracted by physical adornments. Yet Marcellina was nothing like her namesake. She knew how to fight, but more importantly, when not to. Reasoning out the truth of what happened to the previous rulers, an accident from their ill-advised trip across the seas, she set about bringing the clans back together as they once were.
Giving each power over specific areas of the kingdom, she became the glue that held them together until they cemented into a reborn nation. And upon entering the revitalization period with her as queen, she kept her hair long as a symbol of their peace.
